Man that pattern after the midpoint is hilariously static. If not for the size of the hitboxes that'd be so underwhelming.
Also, the end of the video made me think of a "what if" for a project that actually had a loop 2. As in, finishing the last level puts you at a copy of the normal overworld that contains remixed versions of all the previous levels. Probably with some sort of way to travel between the first loop and the second, but maybe that wouldn't need to happen right at the start of loop 2, maybe not even until the end of it.

That's mainly why I'm suggesting he do those first.Joseph Staleknight wrote:Sorry, SAJ, but I don't agree with you on that. Aside from a few levels, the post game isn't a complete hairsplitter compared to the spade levels.SAJewers wrote:Totally recommend doing the Spade levels before the Postgame.

Well, that makes two Kirby and the Amazing Mirror references in the game. Neat.

Bowser, why did you have to let your stupid kid play Touhou?
This fits me far too well:

Man... I just want to say I'm super impressed with the way the segment played today manages to make due with smbx engine limitations to do some of this. There's some rather good management of many layers+events going on.
Re: SMBX: SMBX Japan; Horikawa lives there!
Finally! The keyboard has been praised by raocow. Why yes, I WILL gloat, and eat it too. However, it's SebbyNINETEEN! It's important, not just an artifact from my lego.com days.
Another question: Why didn't you abuse the heck out of the Tanooki Suit?

I HEARD SUPER RMN BROS MENTIONED
Except for all the sonic & danmaku, this game has been pretty cool.

It would have also been possible to remove some of the sound effects via silent shooting generators. Those can be made by altering the generator values inside the lvl file. Constant explosions are never nice to listen to, since they tend to cover the music.

Sure enough, today's level was a genuine thing.
It's kinda too bad that this level is so demanding. I could see that they did try to make a Touhou level in the engine, but it really did feel like too much for legit play. And that's only one of the spade levels, too. At least the level music was neat.
Well then, looking forward to the actual post-game world.

It looks like you were supposed to be in the middle, and then go around the edgemost bullets when they start to move towards you. It was not really clear, and my first instinct would have been to try to stream too.

No one rational would blame you for cheating that. What garbage.

raocow, I do not blame you at all for using god mode in today's level, and I will not blame you at all either for using it tomorrow.
EDIT: for those who haven't played this,
EDIT: for those who haven't played this,
the second secret level is arguably much more crazy, and with the stupid broken Airship piece. Doesn't help there are monotonous parts as well.

Allow me to show you my AOD impression.
Not bad, eh?

Man, those fast crisscrossing red UFO are a perfect example of how important the instant accel / decceleration of danmaku shooters are, in addition to the small size of the hitbox. Those segments would've been so much simpler if streaming didn't require such large movements in this engine.
Also not starting from the beginning each time. That's a biggy.

Re: SMBX: SMBX Japan; Horikawa lives there!
Wow, that level just did not look fun at all. Like, yeah, when they're done well, Touhou-SMBX hybrids can be pretty nice. But the thing is that 95% of them aren't done well. They're mostly boring and/or stupidly impossible Rinka/Bullet Bill/Hammer/Lava Lotus/Rinka(again) generators that all assume that Mario and friends all behave exactly like Marisa and friends. The thing about these hybrids is that they should be hybrids: The beauty of Touhou patterns plus the platforming strengths and proportional hitboxes of Mario games.
Even if this game did touhou segments well, this is still the 3rd bullet-dodging level in a row, isn't it? Come on, guy.
Also, did anyone else hear the Diddy Kong noises or whatever that was in the background? Is that part of the music?

So here we are. Plays have been enacted. Empires have come and gone. The mightiest have passed away and withered, alike the least. Fires have burned, thousandfold. Yet, did not the great wind serenely continue its course? Does not the blackbird still sing its song? Does not the mistletoe still dwell in the oak's crown? Forgotten, what once has been told. Veiled, the words that once so rang out. Shrouded, like the larva in its cocoon. Let him hear it, who will.

I actually really liked this level, but I gave up on it in the end too. Way too long and unforgiving. I love the idea of Touhou levels in Mario games, so it's super frustrating to see so many people screw them up and give these type of levels a bad reputation.

Anyone else feel like that level would have probably worked much better if the fairy mode didn't have momentum? I have that thought anyway, which leads me to think "Man, some details of the endgame of this could have sure been polished up in certain ways if they had just a small dash of LunaDLL trickery..."

Yeah, I thought about swapping Mario with a character who has hearts = 3 hits, then replacing the graphics (mario in a spaceship?) and doing the movement entirely by setting coordinates with luna through keypresses.Rednaxela wrote:Anyone else feel like that level would have probably worked much better if the fairy mode didn't have momentum? Re: SMBX: SMBX Japan; Horikawa lives there!
What a stage. When I played it, I chanted a mantra of sorts to help me through each "attack pattern". Still took way too long to do it and caused a ton of frustration. Don't even slightly blame you for using invincibility, raocow.
