Yes, but the ground was moving too. And then when raocow beat Ludwig, the ground stopped moving without any indication to show that a layer had been switched with another layer.

You probably overestimate just how much some people actively pay attention to the commentary. I even find myself not hearing the commentary at all when he starts getting too monkey-cheesy.
SAJewers wrote:I don't recall ever having an issue collecting the pots; my issue was throwing them up.
Grabbing an object that you can walk through while moving is a bit wonky. I've had the same issue on another SMBX episode. If you're moving at run speed (and sometimes at even walking speed from what I recall) you'll just go right through it without grabbing it for some reason.

That's the Conveyor belt.

I wonder who that girl was? Horikawa's sister?

Today, raocow plays two perfectly-good levels ruined by the scotch-tape used to bind them together.

Man, this level was pretty good, though I find it a bit long to go through. I guess it would've worked as two levels, as well.

Either way, glad to see raocow enjoying this level despite the length.

I think the first half was really well made for the shooting and running gameplay. Enemies were mostly placed in a way the were easy to get rid of with the cannon.

Odd, I really liked this level.

Also, I vote for the right path, I think that has the Toad House. Also, IIRC those levels are easier.

Is it just me, or was the urple porridge slowed down at the first half?

Also that's totally a level 105 edit of a Invasion 2 level.

guess you could call it [that level] reconstructed

next level needs to involve the use of a switch

Huh, I wonder why they remade that Invasion 2 level.

I think the intended way to get the secret exit is too get the 2nd cannon, and use those on the Grey Blocks.

I tried several times to use the second cannon to destroy those grey blocks, but I was never fast enough. I'm not even sure if it's possible to get there fast enough.

You can only break those blocks with Hammers. Also, there's apparently a Hammer suit in the level, so you don't have to fetch one from outside.

OK, so it was on the left, not the right.

Also, I'm not sure if they were made easier or not, but when I played those two levels, I found them both really annoying and kinda unfun.

Really digging the music choices for the two desert levels as well. They feel really desert-y, though for different reasons.

In "Illusion of Deseart": I honestly thought you had to keep the Mega Chomp on-screen as well, but apparently that's not the case. Still, that must've been pretty hard to pull off.

In "Phantom Ground of Sand":
  • In the "GO is GOD" room, there's actually a hidden block on the top-left with a hammer suit if you go past the pipe on the right and loop around.
  • Oh, and one of the levels in World 8 is basically "The Pyrmid" in hard mode. Don't say I didn't warn you!

Finally, that Rest Station is really convenient, though the Lakitu is just sort of there. Sure, he's guarding the powerups, but it only makes getting them harder than it needs to be. Ah well, those powerups are pretty broken anyway.

Aside from 8-5, I didn't think any of the levels in World 8 were that much harder than World 7 (not counting the old 7-5).

I don't know what it is about SMBX that encourages a lack of focus and gimmicks that fail to work properly.

Probably the lack of any actual time limit and, the ability to expand your level out really far, the fact that you can have every enemy type in play at once, and the complete triviality of just being able to string level segments along.

I guess the larger screen size also plays a role, seeing as it tends to make levels feel a bit smaller?

the anime referenced in Rest Station seems to be the 1975 anime adaptation of A Dog of Flanders btw
