Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
raocow's such a baller. Dude gets a rare sword drop and is just all "aw, that's nice" and despawns it.

So here we are. Plays have been enacted. Empires have come and gone. The mightiest have passed away and withered, alike the least. Fires have burned, thousandfold. Yet, did not the great wind serenely continue its course? Does not the blackbird still sing its song? Does not the mistletoe still dwell in the oak's crown? Forgotten, what once has been told. Veiled, the words that once so rang out. Shrouded, like the larva in its cocoon. Let him hear it, who will.

Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
let's be honest here, if it does anything other than 'hits harder than what I got right now' I'm just not gonna be using it anyway!
the chillaxest of dragons

Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
iirc it does hit quite a bit harder (or at least a bit harder) but its super slow and really not that useful (I think its about the speed of the shield rod but without the defense boost or special shield attacks that the rod gives so whatevers)
Though I think it had a poison element to it so thats a thing

Huh, I didn't see the Terminus Est drop. He's so close to the
Alucard Sword
, anyway, that nothing else'll really matter.raocow wrote:I don't know what it means, but you're screaming at me and I'm used to that.
Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
Apparently, when I first got to that part of the game, I got a Terminus Est, because when I finally got around to finishing it up I found it in my inventory.
I never used it beforehand, tried it once, and never again. Aha. How sad.

just be sure not to complain if you run into difficulties because of actively-choosing to keep sub-optimal gear, cowman!

raocow does not seem to be impressed by the design of the inverted castle.
Also, those nova skeletons can indeed do a lot of damage if you're hit by their laser. I found them good for gaining experience anyway.

Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
Well, as was stated all the way back in the normal castle: the raw stat isn't everything. As you saw, a short sword attacks faster than a long sword, so you'd kill more efficiently with that. If a sword giving you an ATK stat of 58 hits every 2 seconds while a sword giving you ATK 66 hits every 3 seconds:raocow wrote:let's be honest here, if it does anything other than 'hits harder than what I got right now' I'm just not gonna be using it anyway!
after 6 seconds, the first sword does 58*3 = 174 total damage to an enemy, while the second only gives 66*2=132. See the difference? On top of that, some weapons can give special abilities- as you've seen, Shield Rod does cool things when used with a shield, and despite you having statistically-stronger swords already, you're still using it because it's really cool and fun and useful! So, stats really aren't everything!
also for the record currently your strongest weapon is gram at +30 ATK while the terminus est, the sword that nova skeleton dropped, ups it by 32, one of the highest in the game for one-handed weapons, alongside giving some enemies the Poison status which others here have said lowers attack and defense. so yeah, it was actually better than everything else you have right now! surprise! but again, judge based on what they can actually do, not the raw stat! the game's much more fun that way :D
Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
Forgot how much the game kind of fizzles out at this point. I think the objective is to just fly through the place, but at the same time, going slow and getting some more stuff is cool, too. The one thing that's kind of neat is I believe you are facing the original Castlevania bosses to get the five items here.
Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
Kinda actually need to collect the item to be able to judge it at all in the first place though, lol.Nimono wrote:but again, judge based on what they can actually do, not the raw stat! the game's much more fun that way :D

The Dragon Helm is the helmet that Alucard started with at the beginning of the game (before his gear was stolen by Death). The "frightens enemies" comment actually has gameplay significance - while you have the Dragon Helm equipped, enemies' defensive power is lessened.

Schmood day to you.
The library is one of my favourite inverted places, though it probably wouldn't be if I had ever made a serious attempt to farm for that one rare weapon.
I was really waiting for it to drop from the schmoo that died inside a wall just because.
There's a lion, a tin man and a scarecrow in the library. Think about that.
I misremembered this as a Narnia reference because I didn't remember there is no
Why are there even uncurses in the library? Didn't the very first boss, the unspectacular bat, drop the curse-immunity relic?
The save polyhedron looks a lot like an icosahedron, which have 20 sides.
Why are the mountains upside down too? This is unsettling.

Re: Towering of the Wright - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
Due to the nonlinear setup of the inverted castle, it's entirely possible for the player to reach the inverted library (and, indeed, most anywhere else in the inverted castle) without having fought the Darkwing Bat.Octagon wrote:Why are there even uncurses in the library? Re: Circling of the Site - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
raocow doesn't seem to have taken it to heart yet that saves can have multiple entrances. Also I'm reasonably sure he missed a secret in the clock tower segment that he'd found on the original area.Willhart wrote:Half of the library was missed today.
Hah, I never noticed that. Kinda interesting that the tin man and scarecrow appear in future games while the lion doesn't that I'm aware of.Octagon wrote:There's a lion, a tin man and a scarecrow in the library. Think about that.
It's definitely an icosahedron. The save polyhedron looks a lot like an icosahedron, which have 20 sides.

Not gonna lie, I was on the edge of my seat every time raocow
And with the Luminus that point is kind of moot anyway. ...
killed a Schmoo
but it's just as wellthey didn't drop you-know-what
since the game should still have some challenge. And with the Luminus that point is kind of moot anyway. ...

Re: Towering of the Wright - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
The Flamberge is one of my favorite weapons in the game. It's a disc one nuke because you can get it before the halfway point of the first castle, it has high attack power with a long reach, and you can offset the slow attack speed with jump canceling. Of course, raocow is having such an easy time anyway that I wouldn't recommend the overkill, but things aren't useless just because they're two-handed. :)

Re: Towering of the Wright - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
On the bright side, Rao only has 20% left to go before he can get the best ending.
Which really ain't that great, to be honest.

He might need to go back to the previous castle too, if he wants to get it. I remember the required completion percentage was pretty high.Grounder wrote:On the bright side, Rao only has 20% left to go before he can get the best ending.

Does the Luminous actually inflict holy damage?
This fits me far too well:

Re: Towering of the Wright - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
On the one hand, not a lot was going on today. On the other, a lot of the map was completed. You're getting there.
Re: Towering of the Wright - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
I'll repeat what was said earlier, you missed half of the library.
I'm disappointed that the room where you fought your doppelgänger and Adam was not a portal between the two castles. The portal the doppelganger came out of looked just like the one used in the 2nd GBA game.

There IS a "Holy Sword" that inflicts holy damage - and, as raocow surmised, it's a quite useful weapon throughout much of the game (despite having only middling attack power). But it's very well-hidden and raocow isn't likely to find it.
Especially because it's in the "normal" castle, not the inverted one.
