I wasn't aware harpies were filled with explosives, or had the ability to shoot energy beams shaped liked smaller birds.
I also find it a bit interesting how the clock tower goes from being the penultimate area in the classic castlevanias to being more around the halfway point in the metroidvania ones. Doesn't stop them from being some of my favorite areas in the games, though.

Also, hooray! raocow has reached the end of the game...
EDIT: Apparently, I completely forgot that raocow hasn't completed Olrox's Quarters yet.

That boss was a lot more difficult if you can't stunlock it. I remember it shot a lot of projectiles. The closest save point was not too close either.

Man you sure found the Holy Symbol a lot faster than I did, that was like the last one I found in the entire game because I didn't know you could break the ground in that part of the basement.
You did the Crow Co-Play boss that starts with an M a lot easier than me, that was the first actual troubling spot I had in the game since I traveled in a different order than you did. Like I went to Clock Tower 1st and then Holy Chapel, and had trouble at the CT boss while the HC one didn't even phase me.
There's a lot of fairly obscure secrets in this game that don't really point out to you that they're there, most of them for me were the one in Clock Tower.

Some kind of two-handed sword dropped from a Hunting Girl or Bone Scimitar, but despawned. Please tell me it's not any good, or I'll be sad.
I only just noticed how the transparent cloak also makes Alucard Elvira Bob's shoulders invisible. It's so weird.
IIRC the unpopular salt (sacred ashes actually, called Vibhuti) is actually much better than the holy water for someone who insists in throwing it at airborne opponents.
I remember the Colosseum being a lot harder. Seems like I did it before the clock tower and caverns...

Re: Mystery of the Might - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
Well done butchering the Minotaur and Werewolf! The Form of Mist is, as you noted, rather lackluster now - like the Wolf transformation, it's severely limited right now because you don't have any of its upgrades. It's basically only useful for slipping through the "Mist could pass" grates. Though one thing to keep in mind going forward: when you're Mist, you can't be hurt. So a quick transfer to Mist can be used to avoid enemy attacks.
The Star Flail is a strong comparator to the Holy Rod - it has slightly higher raw damage and is equivalently fast; both are great choices for this part of the game. Also, both can perform a slightly stronger hit with back-forward-attack. There are a few enemies, though, where you're significantly better off using the Holy Rod because they are weak to the Holy element. (The Star Flail is Hit-element, like the Jeweled Knuckles) A good example is the Valhalla Knights (those skeletons riding half-horses) - they're weak to Holy but not Hit. Try the Holy Rod against them and you'll see the difference. (And in return, the Star Flail is better against enemies weak to Hit.)
The Blood Cloak replenishes your hearts when you get damaged, as the description states. It's most useful against bosses (when you generally don't otherwise have a way to get more hearts if you run out).
Finally, that subweapon you picked up is called the Agunea. Hard to say what it's supposed to be, but in operation it's more like a taser than anything else. It shoots a very small projectile straight ahead that, if it hits an enemy, lets you pound that enemy with auto-targeting lightning bolts - but you need to hold down the attack button to keep pumping out the electricity. It can dish out a lot of focused damage to a single enemy, but can also drain your hearts very quickly.

The only irritating part of the Colloseum is the room where the Armor Lord and Bone Muskets are.
I got nothing to say about the capabilities of the salt right now since it's really useless to some.

The Mist form definitely opens up a couple of more parts of the map for you, but I think you have the right idea with continuing where you are right now. That way, you don't start wondering where you haven't been and can just clear things out one part at a time.

Colosseum has some really good music. I kinda wish, I could hear it on the background.
Re: Mystery of the Might - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
I tried playing SotN after having played almost all the other Metroidvania games in the series, but I got up to the destroyed castle stairs raocow encountered today, fell down ALL the way and realized that there was no way back up. Of course, I could have reloaded, but it just seemed so bad to me that I just stopped playing altogether. Might also have been after a long period of not finding save points, too.
Re: Mystery of the Might - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
I feel he should go back to the area near Dracula's stairway and explore, after finishing the coliseum.

Encountering Richter and getting the Mist Form relic was the next thing raocow needed to do to progress the game.Grounder wrote:The lack of a sense of progression is starting to get to me. :(
I'd advise against going back to Dracula's stairway at this time. It's a very long walk back through the Clock Tower and raocow still doesn't have what he needs to properly explore the stairway area. When he DOES acquire what he needs, it'll also become much easier for him to get back there.Sebby19 wrote:I feel he should go back to the area near Dracula's stairway and explore, after finishing the coliseum.

Re: Mystery of the Might - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind
That was a Were Bane, and it has three more attack than the Star Flail raocow has right now. Be sad. :(Octagon wrote:Some kind of two-handed sword dropped from a Hunting Girl or Bone Scimitar, but despawned. Please tell me it's not any good, or I'll be sad.
Well, one of the big problems with this game is thatGrounder wrote:Are we getting close to end of the first half yet?
once the first half is cleared, the second half, while statistically harder, is going to go by MUCH faster because raocow will already have all of the abilities he needs to explore every nook of the castle. So...enjoy the meandering while it lasts.

So in the original PS1 game, you could put the CD in a normal CD player and there was a pretty rad hidden track. Sorry if this has already been posted, but it's a neat little easter egg in addition to the already great soundtrack that the game has.
