request grab-bag
Re: request grab-bag
Gonna go ahead and recommend a short but juicy game about a mouse. I played it in one play-session, but you would probably take you about the same time as Ikachan did. I don't think it's the type of game we usually see in your LPs, but I think you'll like it nonetheless, even if just for the awesome story (it does develop). The rest of you folks should try it, too.

Argh, I know this from somewhere, I'm definitely sure I've heard this somewhere already, but where?Argumentable wrote:No, you wouldn't be allowed to re-upload it, but if you really must, you could upload -- to Mediafire, Megaupload, Sendspace, or some other, similar file sharing site -- a 10-15 minute long "highlight" reel, and only that. Choose out of all of the footage that you think that people liked best-- for those who want to go back and "relive all the good times" -- and you can upload it. But nothing else, got it?
This is bothering me now, I think it was someone like ProtonJon, but I can't put my finger on it...

Yeah, it was ProtonJon.

So hey, it looks like the Nitroid/MariAri dudes have got a non-Touhou game upcoming now.
It looks like more of a traditional platformer, so it would probably jive with raocow a lot better. Could be worth checking out once it's released. It reminds me of Kirby.

Who is that, though? I searched Amahane Tobari and got nothing.
Coincidence that I found out recently that Tasofro also made a new game (Grief Syndrome).

They're original characters as far as I know. Not all doujin games are based on preexisting things.
And I like Grief Syndrome, but it'd be a super short LP. The only way it'd take longer than two videos or so is if things go super badly.

Re: request grab-bag
Eh, I played it and while it's nice, it's more of a game to just enjoy, not to beat. I don't think it's LP-friendly for someone like raocow except as another Voxatron.
Another problem with Grief Syndrome is that you need to beat all 5 levels in one sitting, and that will take about 30 min to hour assuming that you don't die at all.
That Desunoya game, considering the makers, sounds like it's more puzzle ire.

Re: request grab-bag
There could be more more than one play through of Grief syndrome since the character play somewhat different (2 close range, 2 long range, and Mami). This would be highly irregular of raocow since we would be seeing the exact level over again. 3 runs at most with 2 characters each is the most we could expect, but we could get raocow and advance save file, and have one character for a level on a later lap.

They make more than puzzle games, though. They've put out a couple of SHMUPs and an RPG and some other stuff too. I'll have to play this to be sure, but I'm really getting the impression that the stage layouts are closer to Mario than Nitroid.a0n0o0m0a0l0y wrote:That Desunoya game, considering the makers, sounds like it's more puzzle ire.

Incidentally, Desunoya also made a Madoka game. It looks like Etrian Odyssey-based battles with Valkyrie Profile-y dungeon exploration. Not something to LP, but I've never seen it mentioned anywhere before.
Re: request grab-bag
Oh wow, Desunoya too? I would really like to see raocow and others to make at least one video for an anime-based game.
Anyway, I see, it's more of a Mario. I know Desunoya made some other games, but considering the puzzle buildings skills, I would expect it to not be a cakewalk.

Even so, I've tried it and it's strenuous for LP purposes, since a run takes pretty long and it's not exactly easy at first. I don't expect him to do laps either; it's just same content with added difficulty. There could be more more than one play through of Grief syndrome since the character play somewhat different (2 close range, 2 long range, and Mami). Hyper Princess Pitch is a pretty fun and short game Only takes about 30 minutes to beat but it's meant for multiple playthroughs. If you like arcade style run and guns and lots of explosions, give it a shot.

Re-posting this because apparently I'm supposed to do it here rather than the suggestion box!
Anyway, I think you should bring the "oh, hey!" series back and make it a monthly thing or something. Or maybe for a week you could do an "oh hey" video alongside the SMW ascetic run like you did back at the end of 2010. I don't know. I find myself coming back to the drawing videos regularly and watching them, just because it's relaxing and it's really fun to just see the drawing techniques you use, so I think it'd be cool if you did a few more. I've started memorizing everything said in the "oh, hey! a demo sketch!" video, so it'd be nice if I had something new to watch.
I know I'm not the only one who thinks the drawing videos are entertaining, either, because most of the comments in them are praising the videos.

Two gems I've been playing recently:
Super Mario Unlimited is a snazzy Super Mario Bros. 1 modification created by the venerable Frantik at Romhacking.net. It came out only recently, on December 26.
Super Mario Bros. Plus is a Super Mario World hack by YMLHyHY (?) from a Japanese hacking site. It was most recently updated June 15. It has a sort of classic "Nintendo" vibe to it and what I believe to be great level design.

Have you ever considered a SMB3 hack? There is one called Mario Adventure. I have never played it, but it sounds really good reading from the TvTropes page and the review it links to:

I've played DahrkDaiz's Mario Adventure. It was very pleasant, and featured numerous changes that made it hard to tell the game was even created using Super Mario Bros. 3's engine.

Re: request grab-bag
It seems interesting. I liked the way the attacks were being strung together, and made music of there own! Always like that in a game.
I'm not sure if there are any spoilers. It's just one level with two boss. First boss just looked like a bigger version of normal enemies, while the second boss was some, vine lady. meh, the game looks interesting.
The protagonist has no arms though. I'm calling lawsuit, you need to protect your IP, Rao!

Re: request grab-bag
I don't know if you'd actually play a *gasp* 3D Mario rom hack, but hell, I'll suggest it anyways.
There has recently been a full Mario 64 rom hack that has been released. I wouldn't suggest playing it right now, give it time to polish out it's bugs and all, but it could be something interesting to see in the future?

I'll let you guys be the judge. If it's a horrible suggestion, I apologize in advance.

Hm, you could try out MegaMari?

I'm sure I'm not understanding something and people are going to be yelling at me for this suggestion saying "HEY! THIS IS A TERRIBLE SUGGESTION BECAUSE (insert reason here)!!!!!!!!!!!". But eh, hopefully that won't happen.

I think it would be a good idea to try any Mario rom hack that isn't SMW. Maybe another Yoshi's Island hack?

I've never really seen the appeal in MegaMari. I only played a bit of the game for myself, but I watched PinkKittyRose's full run of the game, and I found the level design to be really bland, and overall, it just didn't look that fun.frostyfish88 wrote:Hm, you could try out MegaMari?
I kinda doubt that really affects if raocow will play it or not, but whatever. I shared my opinion.

Re: request grab-bag
the problem with MegaMari is that it's a game I've already played. Now, some people would argue that my best LPs are all those that are not blind, but this has the secondary condition that while I've played MegaMari before, I'm also terrible at it!
