Wouldn't count for the same reason that it won't count in ATS...cameo's and even playability aren't enough to qualify it as a game in the franchise. Something like "first appearance" is enough, but otherwise it's gotta be either "main character in the name of the game" or otherwise somehow "important".

I'd argue that 'Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing' and 'Minecraft' also wouldn't count as banjo games, but the rest of that list seems valid to me. And tells me I'm way behind...I never played the mobie games!

Still, would only take a miniscule fraction of the time ATS is taking. Not sure if that's a pro or con for doing it. Does the C side have to be a massive project?

Now I'm curious if Freedom Planet will appear in AtS at the 2014 mark under this same rule, as the first and foremost of Not Sonics... but MN09 had Keiji Inafune as connective tissue.

In the case of the former, at least, the X360 version is in fact titled on the box "Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie", which should count in this hypothetical.

Why did anyone think Freedom Planet would qualify? A professionally developed love letter to 2D Sonic games (albeit with more furry nonsense) wouldn't make sense since there's no real connection to the IP. I think the MN9 clause makes a clear distinction because it's a game designed by one of the original developers to be similar to what they originally created. If Yuji Naka and/or Naoto Ohshima made another Sonic-like game at Square Enix, then it'd certainly qualify. But not this.

ys is like 15 and only entries 8 and 9 are any long (maybe strategy) and it's entirely because of falcom cashing in on trails becoming a household name so cold steel era trails is just literally bleeding into every falcom game now
