It's been 10 years since ASMT?! Damn, that really does make one feel old. It feels like it was only a few years ago I was watching it.

Anyway, yeah, a replay would be fun.

Hey raocow, heard of or considered Carrion? It's pretty neat looking and hopefully something you would enjoy

I still have vivid memories of getting up early on school days and watching the day's ASMT episode on my crappy Toshiba laptop. Hair still wet from the shower, which combined with the spongey pads on my headphones made for the unpleasant feeling that my hair water was absorbing into them. And I believe it also made my hair dry into the formation of my headphones around my ears for the rest of the day.

I actually played through most of ASMT on real hardware a couple years ago but I got stuck at King Charles' castle and then kinda forgot about it. Either way I'm so into an ASMT redo. It's long overdue and fitting for a 10th anniversary thing

I remember that he played a pre-release version of ASMT that was basically leaked to him specifically for his LP, so this time we would get to see the version ordinary players saw.

I also remember some old project about revising the hack. Was there any updated version resulting from it?

I know at the very least some made a "works on real hardware" version.

I kinda hope the version he plays is a remaster with the new a2mt/a2xt graphics, but we'll see.

The original ASMT graphics are better than the updated ones, fight me

I think ASMT graphics fit ASMT better what with the mostly vanilla aesthetics of that game.

I too think that a game should look like the game that was actually made and not continually "fixed". Somehow this is controversial among gamers!

OK, went and looked it up, there were plans for an "ASMT v2" with the new A2MT graphics and such, but it doesn't look like it ever happened outside of a patch that fixed the World 3 boss.

The graphics of the original are so much more charming considering they were never used again after A2MT and the SMBX games showed up. It's like replacing WtH's jank spriteart. It'd just seem too perfectionist. Let's save said concepts for A2XT2.

A priest was in charge of the garden within a famous Zen temple. He had been given the job because he loved the flowers, shrubs, and trees. Next to the temple there was another, smaller temple where there lived a very old Zen master. One day, when the priest was expecting some special guests, he took extra care in tending to the garden. He pulled the weeds, trimmed the shrubs, combed the moss, and spent a long time meticulously raking up and carefully arranging all the dry autumn leaves. As he worked, the old master watched him with interest from across the wall that separated the temples.

When he had finished, the priest stood back to admire his work. "Isn't it beautiful," he called out to the old master. "Yes," replied the old man, "but there is something missing. Help me over this wall and I'll put it right for you."

After hesitating, the priest lifted the old fellow over and set him down. Slowly, the master walked to the tree near the center of the garden, grabbed it by the trunk, and shook it. Leaves showered down all over the garden. "There," said the old man, "you can put me back now."

I’m fairly certain we fixed that for the original public release.

What was up with that anyway? Different routine for pit deaths in the original SMW? Cuz I don't see how hijacking a death routine to increment a counter doesn't affect all deaths. You can correct me tho.

im also too lazy to open up all.log

It’s been I don’t know how many years since I did any kind of SMW-related stuff, but I think that was basically it, yes; dying by pit enters the death routine at a slightly later point in order to skip the “Mario bouncing up” animation, and the original hijack point for the demo counter didn’t take that into consideration. I also remember there being a similar issue with the Boss Bass in that one special world level, but I think that one was caused by it having its own copy of the death routine in the sprite code that we forgot to change at first.

Ah, makes sense.

That's very dumb but it makes a lot of sense. Oversights gonna oversight.

In short: the Henry Stickman games are a series of Visual Novels in which you play as a... well, a stickman. Lots of dead-ends, several successful endings.
