it happened twice actually, once to a yuna kinnie and cosplayer in like australia who went by summoner yuna (who 4chan made fun of because she was chonky which yeah sounds like 4chan) and a pretty bad ff7 military highschool au fanfic writer on another site and deviantart who was a stereotypical "hate preps" goth chick from like america who went by sephirothslave, she's moved on to tumblr i think but i forget her blog.

i feel it needs adding that sephslave also had this belief that sephiroth was an angel who came to nomura in the astral plane to put him in the game and she was dating the angel, while i completely forget with summoner yuna other than like she ran an advent children fansite and she moved on to the cloverfield monster as her main husbando or something.

i'm not judging either mind you, regardless of the kind of person they were, they were disasters but so is like everyone on talkhaus including myself so... really.

feel free to put this in a spoiler but does it do that thing where "oh it SEEMS like it's making fun of final fantasy being stupid and the protagonist hates it but it actually turns into normal stupid final fantasy by the end and the protagonist embraces it and the game ends up taking itself 100% seriously" because that type of thing is kind of up there with yooka-laylee in "making fun of yourself for starting to get tropey (i.e. "groan a talking minecart we don't have to RIDE HIM do we?!?") and then proceeding to have a minecart minigame". such a lack of commitment to the irony poisoning drives me bananas in a way that is somehow worse than regular irony-poisoned media. it's like if you make a game that pretends to be chocolate ice cream but actually warms itself up into hot cocoa at the end, you just have warm chocolate milk, and it really would have been better if it had just embraced the hot cocoa-ness the entire time.

also i do have a human recommendation for a real thing which is transmission chain experiment, a smw hack from smwcentral. it is 6 levels, with the old gimmick of every screen was designed by someone else. it is terrible. the difficulty says standard/kaizo, but it is not kaizo in terms of tech. some people just went a little too hard on their single screen. nothing you have not played before. but it's also really funny as hell and woefully unnoticed. would make for a good 2-3 day series

Exceptionally hard is perfectly balanced by exceptionally short, imo. That sounds like a blast.

I think I've generally missed SMW hacks that aren't contests or huge projects. Solo/small projects where you experience someone's vision, or team projects that are short and focused around a gimmick or goal, are together a different category of game than the sprawling/impressive epics we've seen on raocow's channel for the last few years, imo. (I love those too, don't get me wrong, and they're great at showcasing both variety and quality.)
