Re: A Monkey plays a DKC 3 ROM Hack

Post by MonkeyShrapnel »

I was interested in this ROM hack way back when it first came out,
and I found that it contained many ideas and concepts that the original game either underutilized,
or simply didn't do at all.

This is Tag Team Trouble.

This ROM hack does a great job of feeling similar to how the original game designs its levels,
and while it does have its fair share of mistakes here and there,
overall, it's a fantastic ROM hack, especially in comparison to the lack of any other DKC 3 hacks of its scale.

DKC 2 Extra: Glitches, Bugs, and Errors, oh boy!

There are a lot of glitches in DKC 2, some of them are fairly well known, but others are much more obscure.

If you're interested, check it out! You never know what you might learn.

DKC 3 Extra: Glitchy Frolics

This may or may not be similar to the video above, but for the sequel.

A Monkey plays SMW Remix

Post by MonkeyShrapnel »

Super Mario World Remix is a vanilla Rom hack that focuses on tight gameplay and interesting concepts.
Though the game itself doesn't really try to look like anything but a creation from the hay days of SMW Rom hacking,
look past the appearance and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Super Mario Land was a decent launch title for the Game Boy, but it's a very, very short game, and won't satisfy people for long.

Enter the sequel, Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins.

Six Golden Coins is to Super Mario Land, as Super Mario World is to SMB.

New Features include a full world map, a new power-up, the ability to save, a spin-jump similar to SMW, and more!
A pretty impressive set of new things, considering this is still a Game Boy game!

In this Let's Play, I will be showing off every aspect of the game, including secret exits, to the best of my ability.

Re: A Monkey plays a DKC 2 Randomizer

Post by MonkeyShrapnel »

The DKC 2 Entrance Randomizer's main function is to remove all access to the world map
and modifies all warps to take you to another warp,
which is random based on the seed generated.

The goal of this is to reach all the bosses and defeat them,
and then to find K. Rool and defeat him as well to complete the game.
It's a nice way to spice the game up,
and sometimes makes you play the game differently from how you might usually do.

Re: A Monkey plays Final Fantasy 9

Post by MonkeyShrapnel »

FINAL FANTASY IX IS ON HIATUS DUE TO BURN-OUT, I'LL PROBABLY COME BACK TO THIS EVENTUALLY, BUT I CAN'T SAY WHEN

Final Fantasy IX is the ninth (duh) main game released in the Final Fantasy series.

In many ways, the game is basically a love letter to the series,
featuring an absolute myriad of allusions and references to games past,
along with a very "classic" style of gameplay, and a strong emphasis on world-building and story.

FF 9 is in an interesting situation, where when it first released, it wasn't quite as well received as previous games,
but in recent times, the game has certainly become a fan-favourite.

I've been wanting to do this LP for quite a long time,
but LPing an RPG, especially one that's very story-heavy is no mean feat.

Here's hoping this turns out well, after all, this IS my favourite RPG after all!

Disc 1:

Part 1: Meeeeeow
Part 2: Muh-Mommy
Part 3: YEOWWW!
Part 4: Go, Sealion!
Part 5: Chocobo!?
Part 6: Ooo, soft...
Part 7: ...It smells terrible!
Part 8: ARF!
Part 9: Kupooo!!!
Part 10: (Sorry about that.)
Part 11: I help, too!

End of Disc 1 Rambling

Disc 2:

Part 12: No... Not again...
Part 13: You know him?
Part 14: Thanks a lot!
Part 15: Sir Fratley, I...
Part 16: Really stupid, they are!
Part 17: I just said-
Part 18: For a potion, huh?
Part 19: Sis! Ah'm hungert!
Part 20: Let's do it.
Part 21: Catch another one!
Part 22: You stood on it!?
Part 23: Now, fight me!
Part 24: My money's on Kuja

There will be several "half" parts as well, where I'll show off a myriad of different things,
like text that I missed out on, and also some pretty bizarre stuff.

Disc 1:

Part 1.5
Part 2.5
Part 3.5
Part 4.5
Part 5.5
Part 6.5
Part 8.5
Part 10.5
Part 11.5

Disc 2:

Part 12.5
Part 13.5
Part 14.5
Part 15.5
Part 16.5
Part 17.5
Part 18.5
Part 19.5
Part 20.5
Part 21.5
Part 22.5
Part 24.5

Bonus:

Part 9999: Black Waltz 1 Slaps Me Silly
Part Cheater: Black Waltz 2 Roasts Me (Literally)

Re: A Monkey plays Gauntlet Dark Legacy

Post by MonkeyShrapnel »

Gauntlet Dark Legacy is the sixth title in the gauntlet series, and more-or-less the last one that's considered 'good' as far as popularity goes.

Both this game and Legends before it are a lot different than the games that came before, mainly due to the 3-D element at play.

But uh, I'm not gonna say too much. This game is extremely underrated, and I never hear anybody talk about it.
It's a shame because it's a fantastic pick-up-and-play game that's just a lot of dumb fun, and has multiplayer of course, like any good arcade game.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the LP.

World 1: GREEN ARCHER HAS GAINED A LEVEL
World 2: CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE UNLOCKED A SECRET CHARACTER
World 3: CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE FOUND A RUNESTONE
World 4: GREEN ARCHER IS NOW A LEVEL VETERAN
World 5: YOU NOW HAVE ENOUGH CRYSTALS TO ENTER THE DESERT LANDS
World 6: THE TOXIC BELLOWS
World 7: THE LAMP OF DARK OBSTRUCTION
World 8: CONGRATULATIONS! GOLDEN LION CLAWS TO ENTER THE LOWER TOWER

Boss Rush: YOU HAVE FOUND THE ONE RUNESTONE FROM THIS REALM
Temple & Underworld: YOUR MAGIC NOW HAS HEALING POWER
Battlefield & Garm: YOU HAVE FOUND THE 13TH RUNESTONE!

Re: A Monkey plays Halo 2 finally

Post by MonkeyShrapnel »

After playing and recording Halo 1 about a half dozen times in various forms, I’m finally getting around to playing the sequel electric boogaloo.

What’s there to say about it? It’s got one of the most infamous development cycles of all time! And in an industry where shitty development cycles feel like norm, I think that’s saying something.

Some people say that the entire game was essentially made in 10 months, this isn’t really true, but it is true that a lot of the underlying code was produced in the span of about a year since the entire graphics engine was unusable on the original Xbox, but I digress…

The single most notable thing about Halo 2 thanks to its rocky history is its absolutely brutal Legendary difficulty.
Bungie ran out of time to fine-tune its hardest difficulty, and in a last ditch-effort simply cranked up the numbers, resulting in enemies that react instantly and kill you in fractions of a second.

Of course, it CAN still be learned and mastered, so uh, yeah, I’m playing on Legendary.

Fear me.
