After playing and recording Halo 1 about a half dozen times in various forms, I’m finally getting around to playing the sequel electric boogaloo.
What’s there to say about it? It’s got one of the most infamous development cycles of all time! And in an industry where shitty development cycles feel like norm, I think that’s saying something.
Some people say that the entire game was essentially made in 10 months, this isn’t really true, but it is true that a lot of the underlying code was produced in the span of about a year since the entire graphics engine was unusable on the original Xbox, but I digress…
The single most notable thing about Halo 2 thanks to its rocky history is its absolutely brutal Legendary difficulty.
Bungie ran out of time to fine-tune its hardest difficulty, and in a last ditch-effort simply cranked up the numbers, resulting in enemies that react instantly and kill you in fractions of a second.
Of course, it CAN still be learned and mastered, so uh, yeah, I’m playing on Legendary.
Fear me.
