In regards to what raocow said in the video, I don't think that adding a timer to Smouldering Stones would have helped since you'd need to take your eyes off the gameplay to watch the timer. It probably would have made the level worse. A visual cue would be the best option but also very technically difficult. Also, congratulations on using coin trails correctly! That sounds like a very minor thing but having come off seeing a lot of people use them as a warning signs to stay away from it's nice to see someone using them as trails to indicate safe passage like they should be used.

Starting with tomorrow's video I'm doing a thing to play the levels in the proper order so now when I get murdered by a level I can't hide behind the 'but I wasn't ready!!!' excuse.

Re: A Second Mario Thing: SNN and alex2's little baby
Surprise! I exist.
My level is done except for the story-related intro (which doesn't matter now) and The background insertion, which doesn't work because smwedit's ExGFXRevolution patch has a game-crashing bug. This has been the case for like a year and a half.
I remember smwedit saying that he got to look at LM source code to upgrade the patch to 1.91 in the first place. Seeing as how smwedit has disappeared and the bug has to do with an incompatibility with LM itself, there is no way for me to work on the level any further. I cannot debug something that conflicts with code that I cannot look at. I have tried contacting him to see if he has any notes about the incompatibility stuff, but I never heard anything back.
I won't have access to my main computer for another month or so, and the only version I have available to send to raocow is the pre-feedback version. I could probably go back and address some of the things again. I can also try talking to my other tester who may still have the msu-1 enabled copy. Either way, the changes would not be very large. It's just that all the changes were ones of making the game easier.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing rao's response. I'm not gonna say he will be able to do it w/o savestates but he should be more or less ok. I can get through the whole thing tooless in about an hour. 15 minutes with 4 or 5 savestates. Its very well made - some people will disagree, but if raocow has fun then I don't care.
This will be interesting!

Re: A Second Mario Thing: SNN and alex2's little baby
Because the song I ported uses too many channels, and a .wav version sounds nicer. Also, the joke boss makes use of it a little bit. Without that being implemented, there isn't really an end (you just get sent to an empty room).alex2 wrote:why in the holy mother of fuck do you need msu-1
I mean, the gameplay is the same. But not having an end-level fanfare is kind of anti-climactic and doesn't give the player as big of a sense of accomplishment. Making a point to communicate that the player won is important when you make winning so hard to do.

Based on previous "developments", how you talk up the level, what I gathered from Alex, and despite not seeing a single bit of your level, I can say with almost absolute certainty that your level will suck and will rely heavily on bells and whistles to carry it instead of an actual fun challenge (Alex claims it's closer to a pit hack, which goes beyond Kaizo). You will need to have a very good reason to justify your level requiring more than even five minutes to complete without tools (and you're the author of it) or the fact that it requires tool assistance.

I mean, its his choice? If he wants to play the low-tech version, that's absolutely fine. I just want to communicate clearly that the overall experience may be very different if he does so.alex2 wrote:good luck forcing raocow to use bsnes
I had to pretty much threaten to kill him irl to get him to use snes9x
Either way, I'm probably going to record a toolless run and upload it myself on the same the day that he uploads his video. I'll play the bsnes version, so if he doesn't do the same I may just ask him to link my video in the description. You know... just so that it is accurately represented, and people don't think that I made a non-ending as some kind of "f**k you" to the player.
(I also acknowledge that some people cannot run bsnes, because they have yet to experience the face-melting speeds of a pentium processor.)
EDIT: @snipers: Difficulty level and difficulty quality are not the same thing. Also, its adorable how angry you are about a person you have never met playing a videogame level that you have never seen.

Never said otherwise.EDIT: @snipers: Difficulty level and difficulty quality are not the same thing.
More to do that you came from nowhere (like several other people) grabbed a level during signups because of a format gave you a chance. Then proceeded to hog up resource after resource for yourself talking up a level that nobody ever saw any shred of progress of.Also, its adorable how angry you are about a person you have never met playing a videogame level that you have never seen.
...kinda like what you did in A2MT, and the end result probably will not be worth it.

The whole not posting progress updates thing didn't really work out well for bringing together a feeling of team spirit to the romhack, I've gotta say.

A fair complaint. But seeing as how 1) very little progress updates were being made by anyone else and 2) I was told to use a separate rom relatively quickly, I find it hard to believe that it detracted from the team spirit. Regardless I still apologize for that.AUS wrote:The whole not posting progress updates thing didn't really work out well for bringing together a feeling of team spirit to the romhack, I've gotta say.

Well, seeing as how A2MT was never released anyway, I guess its good to know I'll always be safe from even your empty threats.alex2 wrote:if it wasn't for raocow nuthugging you constantly, I would never have let you associate your level with A2MT
thought you should know
I would have made the level regardless of its association/non-association with A2MT. I make levels because I enjoy it, and its satisfying to hear from people who play them. I know that if someone else had made my exact level and I played it, I would enjoy it. That is all the approval I need.
The only thing that made me even want to associate it with A2MT in the first place was that raocow asked me to make it. I respect raocow a lot - he is a really cool guy - and it seemed like it would be fun to make something that he would play. Anything else is just a bonus.
Now, how about we all calm down and just enjoy the LP, ok?

All I did was post about the status of the level, because people were asking. Apparently that's all it takes for you to flip your shit.alex2 wrote:you're obscenely thick if you think he's going to enjoy that hunk of shit
This thread is about A2MT. Its about a game you freaking organized. Don't derail it with the constant pissing match you seem to start every time I appear. I literally have nothing against you. It would be really great if you drop the animosity, but if you need to hate me, do it silently or somewhere else.
@ninja: for someone who is my 'foe' you sure are talking a lot of sense.

Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

For someone so concerned about what is and isn't associated with an unfinished game, you sure seem happy to derail a thread dedicated to its glory.alex2 wrote:I'm pissed because you sucked raocow's dick to get your level in and I couldn't do anything about it. Variable quality, yes, but low quality is only inevitable if your QA isn't good. I'm not saying I expect good QA from an unfinished game like A2MT. Like Alex said, generous leadership is what allowed you to stay a part of A2MT for so long. And really? If your level still isn't done after all of this time (even by "pit hack" standards), it probably isn't that good.
The way you describe the level strongly suggests the level is going to suck immensely. But as long as raocow gives it a thumbs up, that's all that matters, right? All I did was post about the status of the level, because people were asking. Apparently that's all it takes for you to flip your shit.
Alex became the leader towards the end, by then the damage was already done. This thread is about A2MT. Its about a game you freaking organized.
The irony here is that you seem to be extremely willing to try to make this as much of a personal matter as you can and how much you and people like you are (attempting) to derail the original subject. If you chose to not hide behind stupid forum features such as web blocking, you would notice that I am actually giving you people what you want by being "more constructive" with comments. Yet it's you and people like you that want to continue bringing trying to bring in their own brand of "Toxic Vitrol" by providing nothing substantial to the discussion and instead go straight to the personal attacks.Horikawa Otane wrote:posts

Dear, our "arguments-" if you even want to call them that- consisted of nothing but you throwing a snarky "smartass" comment my way and I would reply, only for you to not respond on the matter again until you chose to throw yet another snarky "smartass" comment while ignoring the previous response I gave you. That just leads people into thinking that you cannot argue a point on your own and/or that you have a short fuse- which ain't a good mix.
