Wow, um. The SMB2 level in today's video was certainly a neat take on the level name, but man, so much orange.

It was like I was raiding Firelands again. Too much orange.... x_x

(might have something to do with watching today's video on my TV via the Wii-U instead of on a computer screen, so it looked more saturated than normal, but still... orange...)

Mario and Toad have been seeing red, but that's not stopping them from taking multiple baths.

"Run Quickly" is one weapon rush level, with certainly some room to recover as long as you react quick enough. The physics breaking message about the platform and yellow block, while does not fix the problem, it's necessary to explain that it happens, rather than having it befuddle the player about why it happens.

"It's a SMB2 Level Except Way More Dead" seems like one dark humor level with a lot of red. The graphics of certain enemies fits the theme of the level. Besides the fire being insta-kill instead of only harming you, it's a fair level.

And so we are reminded once again that vegetables are actually incredibly dangerous and will probably choke you to death. Don't eat your veggies, kids.
Today's levels were both neat in their own way, I can't believe there's still almost 40 levels left that ranked higher at this point, the top few must be crazy good.

Man, I loved the overall feeling of that last level. So morbid yet so very silly, and it worked so well. If I was to say one thing that really bugged me about that stage, it was the constant flipping between the outside and inside music. The outside music was really, really neat and it was one of those that needed quite a bit of time to enjoy it fully, but man that other music just kept getting in the way =X That's a pretty minor nitpick though, all things considered.

(Aqua how do you consistently manage to produce new Ran avatars so often, and why do I only get to see the creepy and bland ones in the places I see you most? D=)

I wonder if anyone from the Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii team is watching and if they might throw a fit over the use of their music. Eh, hopefully not, since it's a contest and there's no control over what each person submits for their own unique level.

I'm really digging that first level. It looks like it'll be easy at first glance thanks to overpowered ranged weaponry, but the automatic nature of the platforms and the terrain in general end up being the true enemy. Pretty neat expectation-shattering going on there, FallingSnow!

The "Bing," in the intro isn't the only audio in SMBX to have audio hiss. Pretty much all of the sound effects have it, too. Play a level with no sound and try a few things, or just open up the SFX files manually.

Man, "troll" is one of those words that has been used in so many, often mutually-exclusive, contexts it's practically devoid of all meaning now. The Ingsoc would be proud.

I swear raocow and Horikawa have some hella weird good cop bad cop thing going on. raocow dies a lot of times arbitrarily in large parts because of a bug that the level creator himself acknowledges, but when Horikawa writes "yo deaths feel kinda arbitrary here and so does winning" raocow starts going all "what no this is entirely and absolutely skill-based 100% completely".

Pretty much all of the music has it too (well, had - I think one of the later updates fixed it). I swear that the tracks were ripped at 64 kbps mono or something given how low quality they were.

Also, I really enjoyed that dead SMB2 level. That was atmosphere done right, and the design itself was solid.

Horikawa Otane wrote:Hina's Fluffy Toad allowed you to practice the death pit really quickly. It was like a 2 second walk away. So you just practice that 2-3 times until you can do it well, then you're basically good.

It's easy to practice any one individual part if you have difficulty with it. So that's why I didn't mind it at all.
Ah. That doesn't come across from raocow's playthrough because he kept tackling the challenges in the same order (and the lack of landmarks doesn't add clarity either). I had the impression you actually HAD to go after the challenges in the same order - but if that's not the case then your score makes a lot more sense.

Did the bug kill him a lot of times? Yes, he died a lot of times, but I thought the bug only got him once. Perhaps I missed it in the sped-up parts.

That SMB2 level was rad. Although it didn't make sense for Wart's body to be both dead and lying on his grave to being undead and alive in another room. If he was brought back to life, wouldn't he use the same body? I mean, sheesh, you can't just make up the rules for stuff like that.
