I'm surprised raocow didn't see the solution, it seemed fairly obvious.
Then again, it's pretty hard to cow proof a puzzle level, he's either breaking things or not noticing other things constantly always forever, it's pretty great.
Too Many Rivers was neat with the music and the general feeling. The smb3 tileset created a lot of cutoff so next time consider moving the background objects one pixel downward.
The trials part in Flying Space Fish was clever. I dont think I've seen that kind of thwomp placement before. The quiz was rather mean though.
- That warp works both ways.
- For the First level, that text is actually for some other level. Correct text (which, quick check, isn't there for some reason) should be:
Be more careful with your enemy placement. And 90% of your level is somewhat meaningless, especially if the play methodically goes through the waterfalls [rivers?] in order. I liked the aesthetic, though!
Howikawa's still in the men's bathroom, looking at Mario/Luigi doing their actual occupation.
"There' Too Many Rivers" is a decent level that has a good central theme to it and some clever placement of the actual path to the star. Slight cutoffs, but nothing too major.
"Flying Space Fish" is just all over the place, especially with the second half and star, not to mention that some external research or trial-and-error is needed to solve that quiz.

Three important threads for me:
Okay, so I actually kind of liked Too Many Rivers. It had a nice theme running through it and was overall pretty good. The Lakitu/enemy spam at some points kind of let it down slightly.
Flying Space Fish was... decent, if not kind of all over the place. Plus, the quiz section was really odd. Still, they weren't too bad!
Trollkitu aside, I thought Too Many Rivers was actually really nice, and definitely the best "serious" level we've had so far, and I thought that the author worked with the vanilla graphics really well. I do agree that Lakitu some of the enemies chosen did put a kibosh on the flow of the level, but if some of them had been adjusted, I could actually see this as being an official Mario level. For a first level, this is quite incredible.
Flying Space Fish was... strange to say the least. Design-wise, it seemed to have a bit of flow to it, but it did feel a bit messy and inconsistent with its overarching design. Did think the "You didn't think it would be that easy, did you?" was pretty cute. The quiz part felt a bit annoying, especially due to the fact that it boots you out of the stage if you get a question wrong when you're so close to the star.
Rivers level wasn't too too bad, although geez, Lakitu, you REALLY are in a hurry when the player warps somewhere. And yeah, enemy placement was kind of weird (hey there line of Spinies, you are tough to bounce on without really getting hurt).
That fish one... eh. Lots of cutoff, it's kind of over the place, and that quiz is kind of mean and a huge timewaster because A- Where the hell is the shell, and B- You're relying on someone to expect to know the username you use the most... so what if the person playing has absolutely no idea who you are? It's kind of a really dumb meta-question that pretty much ends up in brute-forcing and thus requiring way more time than it should.
Because Touhou OCs can in fact exist, sounds fake I know.
I can't change my username but I go by Vali/Claire now (aka call me Vali or Claire at your leisure ^^).
I never update this currently playing section anymore, it's probably an RPG or something.
Man, Flying Space Fish is amazing, but of course, levels where I can extremely easily deck out all five characters with an assortment of the game's most broken power-ups and that contain potential infinite lives farms are always winners in my book!

Seeing more and more levels from the early game is getting me more and more paranoid about my level potentially being there too and I'm only halfcertain whether ornotthatfeeling isjustifiedandI'msortofgoinginsanebecause ofit.
I am probably making a FAR bigger deal out of this than it has to be.
Blivsey wrote:Probably the coolest thing about this contest is learning from it; for example, now we know not to put Lakitu in a level with warps!!
also gee, Rao better get to my level soon or I'm going to forget what it looked like
Specifically, you don't usually want Lakitu in a level with warps that don't leave the room. If the warp leads to another room you're fine. You're also usually fine if the level doesn't have too much vertical movement; Lakitu will still follow the player, but isn't likely to crash into him face-first.
Space Fish was weird. It would have been better without that BS quiz section (not much better, but still better). And maybe a plot that actually had a resolution instead of just ending. Or did I miss something there?
The level description of Space Fish mentions it's by 8SomaCruzes or whatever the name is. Then it's just the matter of noticing which door corresponds to which answer.
Too Many Rivers was way better than that one, though. Why'd the other two judges rate Rivers lower than Fish, I haven't an idea.
Judging by the minimum quality, submitting my ...other draft gotta admit, troll levels are ridiculously fun to design and shooting for last place would have been significantly easier than actually trying to compete, but I'm still glad I chose the latter. I'm still kind of anxious because it may turn up in the toilets and be that revolting mystery level depending on how the judges handled some parts, mainly
the crappy timed door thing at the very beginning (I should have used a vine or ladder instead).
I'm relatively happy with how I implemented the title, but I'm a still a dirty enemy spammer, I missed a few parts being much harder while you're big, and I'll also never know how to design for people who aren't me and thus don't know the ins and outs because they're not the ones who made the level.
Glitches and oversights also make the gazebo even more of a surreal hellride than it was intended.
I liked the trial part of Space Fishes, but the quiz... ugh. Too Many Rivers was neat conceptually, but just having to check pipe by pipe at random doesn't seem fun per se, skippability aside.

Awh man, when I saw the video length, I thought there would be like, 3-4 levels. I should have known better. Anywho.
127 - I think this level was kinda neat. Three Lakitus is a bit much though.
126 - Highlight of this level was EATING TOAD. Otherwise, the Challenges path was cute, except the last question. .... The.... actual path.... wut...

This. raocow messed up the third quiz question because he assumed the doors were labeled A-B-C from left to right. But in fact they were labeled A-B-C from right to left. The first quiz question sign explained this. That said, it'd have been better for ALL three quiz question signs to repeat that explanation.
Edit: Fun fact: Of the levels raocow has played so far, the one 8flight ranked highest is...
Too Many Rivers(127th place):
Those lakitus, man. I'll hate this level just because of that, haha. But, the level was cool. (:
Flying Space Fish(126th place):
I liked the part with the challenges. Although, having to re-do the WHOLE level because of a wrong answer is kinda dumb. That f-bomb was so unnecessary, haha. Also, this was weird.
Too Many Rivers
This level is just so bah in so many different ways. As Horikawa said, like 90% of the level is skippable. Even if you do play it fully through though, it's still honestly just super lame. Nothing but flat terrain with enemy strings. The "rivers" usually just contain pipes that bring you all over the place, but the end of the line is that none of them actually bring you any closer to the goal since most of the level is just a "WRONG WAY". It just felt designed to waste your time by making you think "Hey, this level has content. No wait, it actually doesn't!" Also hooray Lakitu spam!
Flying Space Fish
As everyone has said, this level is really just EVERYWHERE, and the quiz was stupid. But besides that, it was totally just.... there. Like, it's still bad in the other areas, yeah, but not definitively so. If you get what I mean.
I will agree that in a direct comparison I would have placed Too Many Rivers above Flying Space Fish, but hey. In the scope of 134 levels, there's going to be a degree of uncertainty. You can't take placements totally literally, but more as a general idea of where your level is compared to others. Especially in the lower rungs.
There's a lot more I think I need to point out when considering the scorings, but I'm gonna hold off for now. That level coming on (presumably) Thursday that Horikawa said they wanted me to explain my score will make a perfect example.
Oh, and by the way. They're totally not wrong. That's gonna be a one-level episode from hell haha.
I didn't realize Lakitu could hit supersonic speeds. Also I think raocow actually spoiled my placing when he was looking for the commentary on the level.
Levels like Too Many Rivers make me think I'm going to be the next level revealed. I feel like my level wasn't as good as it was (even if most of Rivers was skippable).
Levels like Flying Space Fish make me think I did a better job than I give myself credit for.
