SMBX (2014 Yacht of Opinions): MaGL X - Whoohoo!

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

I liked the one with the star at the end

(casually ignoring arguments and also somewhat regretting not participating, although that was mainly because smbx takes up 90% of my cpu somehow)

But no, really, there was a lot of great stuff. I'm bad at talking about things in detail, and I wasn't really memorizing all the levels enough to say I had a favorite or anything, so I don't have much else to say, but good work all around, people

...Also it seems as though MaGLs are the only way to make me rise from the grave around here

hi

i'm splitting off all the argument posts so this thread can get back on topic

if you could criticise the judging criteria in the future without bringing the judges into it personally that'd be great thanks (and also preferably stop making 1000 word posts to say "fun shouldn't be the main judging criteria")

So regarding the public release of MaGLX, will we be able to submit minor tweaks or updates to our levels before then? There's a very minor thing I want to fix in my stage, it's not a gameplay thing at all just a small aesthetic thing I overlooked that might surprise a player if they do a very precise, unlikely thing (I'm trying to be vague can you tell?)

Just replying to some last minute comments.
All of you could've handled it better. And that's barely being "assholish" anyway.
Barely? You've been arguing against Talkhaus's notion for longer than just a few months. I do share some of your beliefs (as in Gameplay is greater than Funfactor), but driving people to rage quitting isn't one of them. Just try to be a little nicer.
Judging is very hard to do (I've done it twice, would've made it three times if I had availability on my side at the time.), but the main thing that sets some judges apart from Horikawa is that they're more mentally prepared for it. Horikawa not being prepared for the fallout was a critical mistake on her part.

As for "lacking respect", stop singling me out, please.
As a judge of two small unofficial contests (12 levels and 9 levels respectively), I agree that there is a sense of difficulty, which leads to a burden of pressure. This was her first time judging, and she was receiving mostly positive feedback. Her criteria were odd, yes, but the community here was generally satisfied. Funfactor is my close second when assessing how good a game/level is, plus these people had levels that had a certain charm to them--- a charm that you rarely see these days. So appreciate it. It may become even more popular than even I could foresee. Being prepared for the fallout would not usually in the mindset of a first-time judge, but as for lack of respect, when the judge just up and rage-quits like that, you're doing it wrong.
I have a few Magnum Koishi avatars ready to go.
You wouldn't dare.
I am aware that the avatar I complained about was 100% clean, but the way you zoomed it in leaved me wondering if she was getting ass-raped by Marilyn Manson. And yes, I didn't need to bring this off-topic point into the debate, but I had to get it off my chest.
And about the next contest again, are you guys seriously starting it in another month? Maybe we should wait for the drama to cool down and for the final version of the MAGLX game to be confirmed. If it does start soon however, I'll be excited to open up SMBX again, and have a chance to redeem myself for the intentional "music" choice I made.

Next MaGL's probably going to be in SMW. Hopefully, anyway, it's been a while since MaGL 2 and I've been wanting to toss together some poorly-coded ASM for a contest since I submitted my level for this one.

Hm, I dunno about the level length on this one. It's fine to make long levels and it's fine to make hard levels, but making one that's both with no midpoint can get pretty frustrating.

Favorite levels that keep sticking out to me are SMB1 But More Dead, SMB1 But Way More Friendly, Hotel Mario But More Intense, and Dudes.

Expect at least two more videos. At least.

Also we are back to the regular 'one video' format.
I will be very disappointed if Smash Mouth is not involved
Probably not, here is a consolation prize. :P

The release day shall wait until the amusing postgame lineup is over.
I am happy this game is still ongoing. No idea what to expect in the future. There might be some levels that were not finished in time. Mario dieing twice for every death was actually really comedic. Especially since it happened every time.

The naming gimmick will get extra interesting too.

What was the hub music in the postgame?

What a twist for the postgame.

"Shifting Sand Land" is a uniquely designed level that overstayed it's welcome and spammed too many Hammer Bros.

The review I make don't even matter at this point, but at least the critique is constructive for future level makers.

I expect there's another level (or thirty) past the spikes where raocow died at the end of the video, and that you need to bounce across using Link's downthrust.

The whole metal ranking system is wrong.

Bronze is an alloy, so its not metal
Silver is a whole period above gold
And gold is just heavy.

So sodiumth place - probably a bit over the top.

raocow, next place must be copper2+th, to even things out.

Whut. If this was a joke then very well ignore what I'm about to say completely and totally but none of the current admins or mods have a tumblr haha.

Well. rao has an art tumblr but that's it.

In any event, he's in the Suspended Users group now, so let's move on, eh?

If there's a Pokemon level and it doesn't have a gemstone that an official game used as its "place" I am gonna be disappointed.
