It's just more cost-effective to delegate work, man.

Who has invisible ceilings anyway?

*discreetly checks ASMBXT levels for invisible ceilings*

Saw the koopa hopping into one block holes to progress in freezeflame, had flashbacks of my own pain in the last 1/4 of the game. Oy that gimmick.

I think invisible ceilings are a good idea to prevent flying over the level but if you're going to use them then keep blocks far enough away from them so that you can't head-bump.

To be honest, yeah, they're annoying because it's that whole "I don't see it, thus it's not real" mentality a lot of people have in general, and it applies a lot to video gaming. I mean, I understand sort of why they're there (to prevent people from somehow finding enough room to fly the entire level, although in these levels there are specific parts that are basically impossible to cape fly through), but it does get irritating when you think you have a clear jump and then whoops, there's a ceiling and now your jump is offtrack because you bumped your head partway through, have a wonderful fall into the abyss!
Like raocow said (or hinted at) they should at least be clearly visible. If you want to prevent someone from flying that's cool but be careful to not let the ceiling get in the way of jumps unless the player can tell there will be one.

Even that would be pretty hard without stretching the screen, I guess. Pretty dumb level construct, but sometimes you have to sacrifice common sense for practicality, I suppose.

Overall good level, though. Those jumps looked legitimately tricky/fun.

Wow, Bowser's Palace was rather uninspired. I know it's deliberately underwhelming because it's not the last level, but still...

That swooper part of the castle really didn't belong in a castle.

A somewhat technical aside:

In the first section of "DISTURBING CASTLE" played in part 23, I was surprised how noticeable a video blurring compression artifact was on the spikes whenever there was movement. It's just interesting how reliable and obvious it is there.
I've never really noticed that kind of thing before in pixely games on Youtube. Conditions were just right to make it pop out, I guess.

OT:

That Bowser castle was pretty uninteresting, and short. I suppose it is some kind of "filler", but that doesn't mean you can't make it fun.

This is where not having such a rigid schedule comes in handy Rao ;) Just for "out of the funk" days like this. That having been said I hope you get back into the hang of things as soon as possible!

It was neat seeing these Sonic levels, and is probably the closest we'll see to raocow LPing a Sonic thing.

(Could you imagine if Cowrao did a Sonic hack or fangame.
That would be amazeballs.)

Is it strange I always feel so super happy when I see Marble Zone or a level based on it? Not to mention that charming music. :D

Yeah, raocow, you clearly weren't in the mood. If you had only gone further into the levels, you wouldn't have needed to bring an outside cape.

Honestly, the way you felt while doing today's video is the way I've felt most of the day... down for no real reason. I haven't wanted to and haven't worked on anything today.

Although you did play the Spring Yard Zone today, the worst of all Sonic 1 zones. Perhaps you were subconsciously projecting that.

Quick questions for those in the know
postgame now, or after the last world (but before the last level)

I'd say do the postgame now, since it's sort of seperate from the last world. Of course I just want to see you have fun with the last couple levels of the post game.

After looking at the levels again...
I think I'd like to see you do things like you did last time. Even with the sequel tease, doing the probably more frustrating secret world now to get it out of the way might be better than just going after Bowser.

Dunno if I'd consider this "spoileriffic", but when in Rome...
Personally, I like it when your LPs end on a high note, with the credits roll, you offering your final thoughts on a game, and then your giving vague implications of what the next project will be. It's kinda sad to end a series with what amounts to "Oh god I'm glad this mess is over!", especially if during the *actual* ending, you talked about how good the game/hack was and how much you liked it. But that's just my two cents worth.

I refuse to have anything to do with Google Plus (still) so I can't do this myself, but could somebody in the comments ask that one guy why he Capitalizes The First Letter Of Every Word? It's something a non-zero number of people online do, but He Can't Think It's Necessary, Can He?

I notice that the hopping fireball thing is sometimes immune, and sometimes not immune to shells: is there a reason for this?

I saw a pseudo-explanation one time, and it essentially has to do with what sprites are occupying what slots in the game's memory. I don't know WHY that would affect it, but seeing the number of sprites at the beginning of the level coupled with raocow dynamically creating a new one (separation of troopa and house) and perhaps even a lack of playtesting on Nintendo's part for the hopping flames (they only appeared in one level, after all) could have lended itself to the phenomenon.

I understand your reservation with Google Plus, and I was in the same boat as you for a long time, but it's really not so bad to create a simple Google Plus page specifically for your Youtube account. I finally broke down and did it when I could no longer comment on anything. It's silly, but so far, I haven't noticed any detrimental effects, and you can choose specifically what is shared on Google Plus, as well (to the best of my knowledge).

I don't understand why the maker used the Master System/Game Gear Scrap Brain theme... it's a weird stylistic choice compared to the rest but I guess I'll never know.
I also love that the entire Star World is Sonic 1. It works, oddly. Oh, and I say go for Post-Game first!

He did the same for Labyrinth Zone I think it was. I think it works fine, having forgotten what the Genesis version sounds like.

Labyrinth Zone (or the super-sleepy 50hz version) is pretty distinctive to me. Scrap Brain (zzz ver) I can take or leave.
