yah, I'm curious about that to. By the way, you seem to have gotten pretty good at farming lives.

The first 'goomba' stage, the one right across the bridge - like five screens in there is a parakoopa followed by a string of goombas and shells and whatnot.

Do the math :)

Never having played SMWR2 I can't offer advice unfortunately...Though I think I played EX so I might remember some of it by the time you finally get there. hmm, maybe I should play ahead on 2 if i can stand doing so.

If you can, post a screenshot of the Japanese text in SMW returns 2, and I can translate for you.

Doing Super Mario World Returns 2 immediately after finishing Super Mario World Returns?

...You sure that's a good idea, raocow? I mean, you saw what happened when you marathoned the Mario X World games, and then tried to marathon the Super Mario World Plus series.

True, but he also marathoned the VIPs. Twice.

Yeah, but this series seems have level design more in line with Anikiti's stuff (some Mario 3 sprites and Yoshi's Island foregrounds here and there...those weird bouncing blocks...repetitive level design...).

Congratulations on beating smw returns raocow! It's been a tough ride at some points but you managed to pull through every single time! I think you've gotten pretty good at playing without savestates regardless of what anybody says.

Just played the first couple worlds of SMWR2. Trying to avoid savestates, and it wasn't going too bad until I get to this bridge level.
Freakin' speeding Banzai Bills that are almost impossible to avoid unless you memorize the spawn points and pre-emptively jump them.
KT also disabled L/R scrolling. Not sure if it was the case in SMWR1.

I'm playing ahead of you as well raocow. So far so good, though I'm sure you've already found that out seeing as you've recorded the first part by now I'm sure. Level design seems much stronger than in the 1st game, though still a bit dull in places. At least there's more variety and less obvious recycled areas.

Something about those coins near the end of the bridge level, combined with the space below the bridge on the map, leaves me suspicious that there might be a secret exit to that stage?

Also, just for the sake of saying it, the first world was called "Green Hills", and this next one is "Flower Park".

There's nothing at those coins, just coins.

Geez, that secret exit was just insidious. I know raocow's dealt with worse in the past, but come on!

I don't think that it was unfair, just kinda hard to spot.

That's...a very mean spirited secret exit. On the plus side, so far this game seems much less repetitive and Anikiti-hack-like than SMWR1 was.

Next world is "Vanilla Tunnel."

Unfortunately all I'm good for as far as translating goes is stuff that's written in katakana, so all I can say about that "S" level is that the first word in the name is "Manto" (which I assume is supposed to be mantle, which would refer to the cape I guess?) and that the last word is Lift.

I've noticed you've been having trouble with the waterfalls raocow. That's because they are made up of custom blocks that push Mario downwards, meaning you'll sink faster. When in a waterfall, always buttonmash jump so you'll not be pushed away by them. Holding up helps fight against the flow too.

Wow, just wow. What the hell was up with that secret exit. If yah ask me, it was way too ........secretive. I mean, what if you had bad eye sight or something. Would you really be able to catch a glimpse of such a subtle difference between a single block.

Just started watching raocow's old Super Challenge World videos, and it may just be the audio quality, but, wow, did he ever sound different.

No less entertaining, of course.

Does anyone know where the background in the Green Hills Bridge level is from?

Uhm. I'm a little late with this, but I really, really liked the fight against Bowser. It was... adorable.

Hey raocow, back in the first level, if you take a look at the part where you killed charlie with a shell, I'm wondering if there's a pipe hidden there, seeing as the shell was moving back and forth on what looked to be solid waterfall tiles. Maybe it's a hidden pipe disguised by a waterfall?

Even if it were, it was a yellow level, right? So it should only be a bonus room, instead of a secret exit. Still, might be worth checking out.

Anyways, I've been watching the videos for a while, and I've liked the switch over to Returns 2. It's visually better, even if we saw a little relapse into the repetitive level design from Returns 1. I like it so far.
