He doesn't. You're thinking of a different part. The segment he needs to do is only three rooms long - the three rooms right after you see that trinket.

Since someone beat me to it, extra info: That line of checkpoints is there to simulate an alarm going off. The room is called "Danger" or something like that. It's a joke, not a challenge.

So I beat the game (Time of one hour thirty or so) and was running around to grab the trinkets and was... well, I'll spoiler the rest of this.

getting the second trinket during the Tower sequence. You know the one where you have to manage to land on that little tiny tiny tiny bit of land right in front of the spike wall?
Well I got it, then hit SHIP to transport back.

I died in the process of teleporting back from getting scrolled off-screen, and had to quit the program.
I booted it back up... now I get an error -and- my save data's borked.
SIGH.

And I'd gotten the Hell Trinket too D:

Long story short: Everything's easier the second time around.
Also... I've discovered there's one or two things that change depending on which order you rescue people in :3

EDIT: Well, my final results on round 2 were awesome. 100% in sub-1-hour. Just over 200 deaths, too, and Veni Vidi Vici was -not- the biggest source of those (Well I suppose combined it was probably more than the room that claimed the title in the end, but no individual room did it, and honestly it was <20 deaths anyway, I'm sure).

...Turns out the game's only started to get hard now. I wonder how much of the bonus challenges raocow's going to attempt.
