Played up to the second boss. All I can say is... brace your self. :D

That said, I haven't played the latest version. Can't wait to see how it's changed.

First time I ever watch raocow playing a game I've played before. This'll be interesting :p Luckily this game is much much much easier than the first one. Though I'm pretty sure there will be some hair pulling for everyone involved on some bosses/the jump challenge.

raocow, the game does have dash chaining! Gotta learn how to do it without Mental Insurrection too!

I'm loving the new element per key, and it seems more satisfying getting kills with your arsenal of attacks.

However, I really don't like the girly-girl additional comments when you scan an enemy. Maybe that's just me, but it strikes me as overdoing it.

Wait what?

I just hope this won't turn into a rage-LP. Good Luck!

It's true! You can't really "get stuck" on anything this game. The bosses never have huge HP bars, and you get a full HP refill when you restart from the room you died in, unlike the first game where dying in a room without a save point could mean hell.

You know what this game needs? Puzzle bosses and 1-hit KOs.

And tofu-men. Spiteful, spiteful tofu-men.

I second this. Chain dashing is going to become important (go figure), so mastering doing it with Claire's spells is a must. Personally, I find it's easiest with Wind.

Welcome to Distorted Travesty: VR Missions.

Keep in mind that this has been retouched for you! Slit is playing the old version if you're curious what changed.

Well, this game is easier to beat. 100% clearing is quite tough though. slaix223 actually said he couldn't 100% DT2 yet due to time limits.

Well, it is not ME who is playing DT 2, but my buddy Steve. I am just commenting as well much like a co commenter!

Clair is a lot more mobile than Jeremy, and at first I thought that was cool. Then I realized the game would be built around that.

So I have a question for Zephyr. Why wings whenever your jump?

I love how Chao encourages you whenever you die, unlike her brother in the first game.

I didn't do any frankenspriting for the characters.
Same with the first game, all the sprite edits were done by someone who really liked the project. The best were the Ninja Gaiden inspired ones, which weren't really edits. (Black Rock intro)

I didn't start doing my own sprite edits for the characters till DT3, like the grapple/hanging poses.

It was actually your comments on the blog that were a fairly big reason for me coming back to DT2.

Claire's sprite is the character Eve from a series called Black Cat. Eve is a shapeshifter who can sprout wings when it's convenient... eg, when she's in midair. Therefore Claire does too.

It's the same situation as Jerry's sprite being Allen from D.Gray Man, and his arm turning into a claw whenever he attacks.

I'm really looking forward to watching you find a way to brute force this game's element-centric combat system

He can't. Those 4 elements are all he has.

Brute forcing is quite useful in trying to beat the time, though.

After the post-commentary in The Last Defenses and Think and Act Fast, it'll be interesting to see how raocow tackles this game compared to its predecessor, considering the sequel's answers to a lot of those problems.

A hint for chain-dashing:
consider some of the subtler properties of Mental Insurrection, and which spell you have that inherited them.

Wow, the new protagonist and helper certainly have personalities. Nope, no "the character's defining trait is that she's a girl!" here.

Was the color flashing when the boss fell always there? I don't remember it. I hope I didn't miss it.

Chao likes her brother, what are you talking about?

And Claire is Jerry's ex-girlfriend, not his sister.

In any case, I've run through this game again with the new updates, and I like what I see. An entire new level, and some of the more frustrating parts in the endgame have been made a bit easier. Subtly, but it's there, and it really helps.

Alright, I suppose the characters aren't as bad as my first impression.

Also: references to raocow LPs already.
