That's what I was wondering. This seemed inappropriate for a very first level.

Hey there guys,

as you might have seen raocow has started a new LP. And after the surprisingly excellent and refreshing STTB 2 it is time for our Canadian buddy to return to well-known realms: Super Mario World!
As proven with the first video this Japanese ROM hack will sure be a thing. Fun times lie ahead as we delve into this adventure. Yo!

It's actually not that hard, raocow just picked a poor level to start with due to the fact you can go anywhere and start from any world in the game. The one he chose was meant to be a secret level...

Not gonna' lie: I was kinda' on the same "high" from STTB2 as well and was more interested in STTB, but that's all right. Guess this'll be a nice little breather before he goes back to SMBX.

This hack feels a little strange considering it's in Japanese; I really liked today's level, what with all the platforming and stuff (though blind jumps aren't ever cool). Hopefully the apparent non-linearity won't be an issue.

Anyway, raocow, you seemed to be having trouble with the Diggin' Chucks, so permit me to remind you that the rocks can be destroyed simply by sliding into them.

I remember this hack. Limepie and I played it and we beat a lot of levels

We didn't beat that one

That level was really cool! The layout was really interesting, and the sprites knew where to be to take advantage of that interestingness. I remember playing a bit of this hack when it was first mentioned, but I didn't play this level. This level impressed me more than what I remember, so hopefully it has other surprises in store.

The pre-Flying Yoshi overworld music was from Final Fantasy IV as well, I think.

Also unless I missed it, midpoints in levels so far : 0

I will say that although STTB2 seemed more "fun" you didn't end up with even 1% of the comic reactions as were had in today's level.
The nature of the signature is significant and natural.

I grabbed this hack awhile back when someone linked it on the talkhaus. It seems pretty fun from what I've played so far. Although I got stuck after the Yoshi part because I've never seen anything like that before. Who would've guessed you'd use Yoshi as an airship...

As far as I can tell, this hack actually has very, very few if any elements from Romancing Saga. I didn't recognise any music from the series, it has no graphics from the series and has no sprites or bosses or asm stuff from the series either.

But it's a good game anyway.

It was really confusing ppr talking at the same time. PPR should maybe have a voice effect or indicator, maybe?

Judging solely from the text-free visuals yesterday, the choice of overworld music and the unusual overworld layout, I had assumed that this was going to have quite an epic and elaborate story, but nope, it was just a sort of Scarlet Devil Mario-esque "Lawks-a-mercy, Bowser is in space for some reason that has nothing at all to do with the events of our in media res opening sequence, and while we're at it, lets awkwardly reference some other popular characters fer supplemental yuks." Ah well. You can't have everything.

To pick up on a couple of things mentioned in the video:
-Beating Tall Tall Athletic actually did do something: it unlocked the first desert level.
-It's probably obvious, but a Yoshi can generally be found where you first landed in a world.

After playing four or so worlds of this I can't help but wonder if the creator used the ancient Blocktool or something, because dear lord I haven't encountered this much slowdown in a hack since Mushroom Kingdom Meltdown. The levels themselves are pretty fun, though, if rather difficult at parts; one particular level in the cave world must have taken me at least 60 lives to get through.

Speaking of which:
does beating the Windows level unlock something somewhere else? Because having a level that hard just be a dead end seems kind of odd.

As far as I can tell, there's no reason to the windows level. In addition to this, there's no real purpose to getting the switch palaces as far as I can tell, the area which 'needs' them merely leads to a hard as hell level based on Cave Story's 'hell' area.

There's also quite a bit of nice custom music in this game, although so much is just wasted in one room of a larger level it's ridiculous.

And yes, the slowdown does get ridiculous at some points. In fact, I'd like to recommend raocow uses save states whenever he gets to the levels with the most slowdown since otherwise there'll be unfair deaths all over the place due to how hard it is to control Mario when he instantly speeds up after such an area.

If you want to play this and other older hacks (Demo World, VIP 1,etc) without the majority of the slowdown, a useful trick (if you can use zsnes) is the following:

Open zsnesw.cfg in notepad.
Change "per2exec=100" to "per2exec=150".
Load the game you want to play from the title screen (don't load a savestate).

(Obviously, be prepared to change it back as this setting might affect any other game you play.)

Checking Lunar Magic, the Windows level(s) appears to be just a bonus/extra level. It's hard to tell what unlocks what sometimes when you're playing the game.
