ASMT: Hey there raocow, here be everybody.

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

And the best part is that no-one knew of each other what kind of level everyone had. So it's just a coincidence.

As raocow said the level looks a lot harder than it is simply because of the visual pieces like all the spikes and megaspikes when in reality those segments are very doable. I liked the design in here quite a bit, though I think the palette was a bit bright for my tastes. Then again icy palettes are always hard to pull off.

Man, World 6 was the largest world so far. World 1 had 6 levels (not counting the switch palace), 2 had 8, 3 had 6, 4 had 10, 5 had 8, and now 6 has 11. The Raft Ride level sounds pretty short, so perhaps you'll get to do that and the castle in your next episode, making almost the entire Page 3 World 6. :P

On that note, also, I can't wait to see World 7. We're nearing the endgame! Please, please, please let there be some story coming up soon? :o

Just wanted to say, I've been loving Ice World. I usually don't like them so much, but puzzle mix is awesome. This world contains some of my favorite levels so far

Wow! I didn't know that - I thought that for some reason in SMW the Ice Worlds were meant to be puzzle heavy somehow. That's quite a coincidence.

I was disappointed when you didn't link to the Ice Age art. Where does that leave me?

As far as the level goes, the sudden autoscroll out of nowhere made me smile. And actually, the stuff that failed to spawn made it feel like a different level going each direction, which was nice. It may have been a bug, but it turned out well. In my opinion, all the level needs is that one quick fix in the exits. Nice work, Norpser.

Ice world is probably my least favourite though, I'm glad it's almost over personally.

Desert world is where all the up and coming cats go.

So I've heard nothing but good things about the 'endgame' thing. Is world 7 the start of the 'endgame?

Also man, according to my level list world 7 is huge!

Not gonna spoil anything, but he reason there isn't that much directly plot related stuff (although the messages in the beginning of each world and the castle destruction messages are somewhat plot related although more random) is because not everyone likes it and this is some kind of compromise.

What happened to the idea of plot message boxes? I liked it. Totally skippable if you wanted to ignore it, and if you didn't it was there

That may have worked but I don't really see it as much of an improvement on what we have. What we opted for is a plot focused more on exploration than a linear quest development. I think the plot comes across as much more immersive when played yourself than when watched on LP, even considering the fact that the big developments are at the beginning and towards the end. To improve, I think it just comes down to organizing matters better from the very beginning of hack development, rather than a couple simple fixes like plot boxes. We probably did the best we could (and, in the end, pretty well) with the structure we we working with.

PS - A Vanilla Level and the Frozen Crusade are so $$.
Nothing's easy.

The plot is so immersive, it's almost as if it's not even there.

Well, yeah. I don't need anything major, since this isn't a story-based hack, I'm just hoping for a small cutscene or something in Castle 6 or in World 7 or something.

Also, whoa, World 7 is larger than World 6? Wonder how much of a page that one is going to take up.

The plot is basically told in four major chunks - the start of the game; And Then There Was A Resistance Base; and two more large chunks starting in World 8.

To reveal exactly -when- or -where- these plot points are, however, is a major spoiler that is really kind of too awesome to reveal

Gotta jump on the bandwagon; Frozen Crusade was a really great level. The best thing about it, I don't know what exactly made it great, it's not "the part with the X" oder "the X gimmick" - it just is consistently nice.

Also, panic.

Developer Comments - Frozen Crusade
Well, well well where to start! Im kind of glad I had to work and was put off from doing this because the comments I received have been great so far! I really wasn't expecting much, but boy am I surprised!

Well I can easily say that my plan for this level was not really one. I mostly just wanted to create a fun level that I would enjoy and included many things that would make it seem hectic. When testing I constantly used save states because I tend to suck, but apparently that is a good thing lol. I really just did what came to me as I was doing. Nothing too special :D I had actually made this a ways back when this started but at that time no level was open. Eventually a spot opened up and I just needed to add a secret exit and change a few things around. As for the plus sign/pillars of doom above. I Made it so you had to duck if you were big, but not if you were small. Has more of a fear effect if anything lol. The end was supposed to have a more.... puzzle ending thing with p-switches and coins but it got removed for some reason. Probably due to sprite constraints. As for not having a boss... well I am not that far advanced in lunar magic and didnt create a custom boss. Nor did I want to use the same old bosses (Renzor) -_-

Now as for the super amazing secret exit. Im pretty sure raocow mentioned WAY back in the good ol days that he wanted to have a level where you would get the key and go back to unlock it with an autoscroll - or something to that affect. It was a long time ago though. But I eventually got It the way I wanted. Scary but fun! The pow didn't start the auto scroll btw. It was placed just far enough that you would get the key to start the auto scroll.

Im glad you enjoyed it raocow - really made my day :D And I've got more on the way!

I loved today's fortress level. Everything clicked for me, the graphics, the difficulty, it all seemed perfect.

@Terry von Feleday

Red Switch of Puzzle - Super Mario Bros 2 - Title Theme
The Worms' Cave (Outside) - Duck Tales - Amazon
Firehazard Canopy - Donkey Kong Country - Forest Frenzy
Overgrown Fortress - Donkey Kong Country 2 - Krook's March
Wild Green Yonder - Donkey Kong Country - Forest Frenzy
Giant Ice Cubes (Caverns) - Super Mario Bros 3 - Music Box

I think that's all that I know for now. It'll help, I guess!

Edit: Also, not posting a lot, but following along. Loved The puzzle deluxe thing, too bad it has been broken. Let's just hope things don't get messy again in terms of game-breaking shenanigans...
Can't wait for these plot schemes and best levels in the game. This seems to be sort of kind of not over. Love it!

Out of curiosity, and this is neither a bad thing or limited to just this hack of course, but what is with the odd love affair between the DKC games and Mario romhacking

Personally, as much as I like Mega Man, the two platforming series I associate most with the SNES are Mario (even though there was just World) and the Donkey Kong Country games. They're also my two favorite series, and I'm sure it's like that for many out there that grew up with this machine.

I would call it a love/hate affair. Because the DKC games are far more superior in terms of graphics and music. So while most songs fit in really nice in SMW, a lot of graphics replacements make the whole thing look kinda ugly in my opinion. I don't mind clashing graphics too much, but this is a bit to big of a difference if you ask me.

The music in the castle was Blizzard Buffalo from X3, imho the best tune of that game, preeetty nice.

The castle itself...a bit lacklustre, I think. All-thwomp-stages aren't very interesting to me. And dang it, not a single Maverick to make a stupid joke of!
