ASMT: Hey there raocow, here be everybody.

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

I like the mario castle "parody" music. Though it sounds like something in the level messed up a channel in the OW music. Wonder if that carries onto the next world....

probably the echoing call or what it's called with all the phone blocks. that level isn't so much hard as it is really long and tedious.

Hey, wasn't "after castle 5" the place where raocow needed to restart from the title screen?

Or did he get the fixed version already?

No, but he only has to do it before world 8 and raocow claims that in world 6 or 7 he gets close to a game over so it's a win-win situation.

So that was a level starring a dude crossdressing as Cirno?

...You know, I wouldn't be surprised if someone in Japan actually did that once.

Also, apparently cries for help temporarily paralyse Demo? Nice to know.

Well, in general, I'm honestly not to sure what to think about this level - the idea was interesting, and I liked the visuals, but it just didn't look like a fun level to play at all to be perfectly honest!

At the rate this is going, I'll be quite disappointed if Cirno isn't the World 6 boss!

But seriously what is it with raocow LPs and the first two bosses of EoSD

Also link to hq overwurld musc plz

And to the music for the Rumia fight if Kil uploaded it?

raocow, just so you know we did something to your ice level.
It doesn't start out slippery, but as you progress from screen to screen it gets slippier and slippier

That level was tedious to replay I'm sure, but it gets 100 stars for having such an amazing port of that one level in DKC with the amazing ice cave song... slipslide something. Amazing job there ^_^

Developer Commentary thingy:
Mine was something of a collab level actually, with Kiniko to thank for the concept (that might be wrong though, and I think I credited this wrongly before, so please let me know), me on level design and some graphics, Oracle of Wuffing who made the fuzzy-guys/bobs goomba swap and had the idea for yin yang fireballs, Wyatt with the Amazing Donkey Kong County port, Kil giving me a version of the cirno theme with better drums, and Chibikko on asm. Finally, yoshicookiezeus made the "im the strongest" message appear automatically when you enter the level and helped out with the ice generator sprite. The asm from Chibikko was intended to mimic SMW Omega, which raocow was playing at the time, in that on ground there was friction but ice was slippy.
Originally this level was intended to have yoshi taunting the player every time they hit a messagebox, and would have been a grassland level called "Old Nag". Unfortunately most levels were taken but for an ice cave and some others, so I swapped over the tilesets and background, and then made about 3/4s more of the final product. Cirno's involvement was my attempt at justifying why it should be an ice level, and I had only recently learnt much at all about touhou, so I thought putting in Cirno was a "good idea". Once Cirno was in there I suddenly had to justify that however, so I put in as many touhou references as I could, swapping powerups, enemies, p-switches, and coins, and the messagebox to imply Cirno had kidnapped a yoshi, mistaking it for a frog. The Ice in the second half of the level was my attempt at making nifty scenery but without using map16 in the way Tails_155 does it, mainly because I didn't know how to do map16 when I started the level, or any kind of hacking.
In hindsight a level this long and with death-punishing tricky jumps would have needed more checkpoints.
Cirno was originally going to fly without a cloud, but the Lakitu disassembly wasn't completed at the time, and I did not at the time know how to fix this, so I settled for just removing its face. The original graphics too for Cirno were somewhat different, as I had based them on Lakitu rather than starting from scratch, and I'll include them here as well as an earlier Rumia sprite and the final Cirno sprite:

Well then! More checkpoints would've made this a very nice level, but it's just a "little" too tedious like this. Nonetheless, the idea is great, if nonsensical (which makes it fit perfectly!), the "Yoshi = frog" twist was clever, and more Cirno is always good.
I just hope that if she's the boss of this world, she gets a different writer. Extreme dumbness like that is a major pet peeve for me. Even with Cirno. Especially with Cirno.

One thing I should note for graphic swaps is that you should keep in mind that proportions in SMW are all super-deformed like and someone with more normal proportions will just look like they have a really tiny head - this is something I noticed about Onric there.
However, you really got them right with the new Rumia sprite, which is much better than that old one.

Also, that old Cirno sprite reminds me hilariously much of Birdo.

Superquickedit: And yeah, her illiteracy was a bit over the top.
...Wasn't that supposed to be spoken speech that is actually said aloud anyway?

This first Level of the ice world is just a pain. I don't mean bad, but the difficulty courve is just reaching extreme hights compared to the levels before. It is a little bit of an extreme change.

Well as far as difficulty goes raocow has always said that world 6 is where it usually gets properly difficult, so that's what I used to tell myself to justify the tricky jumps.

Also thanks Terry. The text was originally in a messagebox rather than spoken, which is why it's as if written down. If it was said aloud it would be a lot more literate, yeah, and even then I do regret making it quite so bad. At the time I was new to touhou so I new more of the fanon than being realistic and sensible about how the character should act.

Also can I ask where everyone has got the idea that this isn't Cirno but some crossdressing guy? It was intended to be Cirno since it's the size of a fairy and so on but if this way is funnier I'm fine with that too.

And kept referring to her as "he" a bunch.

Probably meaning Lakitu, but it's still funnier that way.

Sorry, but this level just screams "bad idea" to me. Why would you want to annoy the player?

I did like the level design though. It was nice. And I'm always for more Touhou references. It would have been a good level without the message box gimmick.

That level would be incredibly annoying without states. I did like the design even if it did scream "annoyance" to me.

While that level was very funny watching someone else play it, I doubt I would have the same levels of enjoyment if I played it myself.

Having played through it a couple times through testing, I attest that contrary to intuition, An Echoing Call is very fun to play. Very funny too. You want to claw your eyes out, yes, but in a maniacally giggling sort of way. A unique experience.

Oh man, THIS LEVEL. I kind of half raged and half laughed my ass off at this during the testing. Simultaneously. I'm actually very curious to see how a TAS handles this. Speaking of which, did whoever-raocow-wanted-to-do-it ever start TASing this game yet?

Actually the kick drum from the rumia fight ended up carrying over to the OW, which happens a lot in the non-fixed version. Hopefully ycz shows up soon so we can apply the fixes.

Say what you want, but after testing 3 different versions of this level, I still think it is pretty fun. Sure it is tedious and annoying as hell and I won't play it for a VERY long time to come, but there is something in the design that makes me like the level.

I think this level is quite well designed though it can become very frustrating playing without the usage of savestates after a while. Like the section right after that midway point. raocow died several times trying to grab these vines. The problem is that whenever he died he had to redo all these sections from the midway point on... he must have been very desperated after a while.

However, I did like the graphics.

Now I hope, that the next stage (Giant Ice Cubes was its name right?) won't be as hard as this one.

Oh well, this stage was sure a thing. That's pretty awesome, right thar' Charlie.
