i posted it on discord too but i'll repeat the answer here just in case:
to answer the question in the description: yes* but it's slightly more complicated than that
elaboration under the spoiler below
the megapede/red centipede is one of two legal options for the next icon, the other being the aquapede. it's kind of a pick your poison type of dealio. but you are basically right

One thing I really like about Gourmand's campaign compared to the others is something a little bit meta about it, though it involves some easily missed text.
If you bring a fire egg to Moon, a very rare item that Gourmand does not have access to normally and requires a chain of crafting, Moon will mention how remarkable and unbelievable it is that you have one
Healthy one... what is this, and where did you get it? Is this a feat of your own creation?
It's a bit unbelievable. A... creature like you procuring something like this would be an amazing accomplishment for your species...
Ah, well, if it tells a good story then I won't question it too much
That last line, along with the dreams being the paintings at the end, implies that the campaign is not strictly canon, explaining some of the more out there powers like being able to just spit up random things. What you're playing is the story Gourmand is telling the other slugcats back at the tree. It can probably be assumed it's mostly true, but with Gourmand certainly embellishing a few things.

I like to imagine those are Gourmand pulling a "No no no, that's not how it happened. Shall I start again?
there's definitely not enough items to fill up an entire campaign of this with tho lol. here have Overcast, the spooky song that plays in this little area they added for Artificer's campaign. i like this one a lot. artificer's campaign has some of my favorite new tunes in general, tbh. hopefully we see them all.

There are two combat focused slugcats in the DLC and they're both among the harder campaigns, imho. Artificer in particular has a real rough start. There are a lot of new mechanics to get a handle on and hostile scavengers are a real rough opponent to suddenly need to learn how to fight.
I do think it gets easier as it goes on and it's campaign has some really strong moments, but no, yeah, the beginning is a hell of a hurdle.

it doesn't help that in classic raocow fashion he has misinterpreted a thing and is now trying to brute-force the wrong direction the game tries very, very, VERY hard not to let you go. fortunately this will also make for good content anyways and i am terrified of him beelining it to pebbles and missing out on most of the new content in this campaign as well as most of artificer's dream sequences

Honestly, I would not call that "classic raocow" so much as "the Artificer starting location is kind of bad," tbqh. The intended route is very unintuitive, and while it is easier, that's only if you already know where the game wants you to go.

disagree with this, i think
it's very intuitive. you gotta use artificer platforming to cross a platforming challenge. makes a lot of sense!

ahh, the explosive spear. ever wanted to huck a pointy thing into someone's vital arteries and then have it explode them from the inside, killing them instantly? now you can. these things are OP as hell lmao y'all saw raocow one-shot a DLL (mold blob) today i think that speaks for itself

arguably a weapon, anyways. slugpups can do Things, for sure. i've greatly enjoyed invader batflight's ongoing slugpup games series 'cause it really shows off what slugpup AI is capable of and it's fascinating

hey everybuddy it's time for my favorite song in the game :) the coast :)
deep the coast lore: it was on the og soundtrack despite not previously being present in-game, presumably it was gonna be used in shoreline but ended up cut. i don't think it fits waterfront facility as well as it would've fit shoreline but i'm just so happy the downpour team included it at all 'cause godddd
anyways!!! did some reformatting in the OP - gonna spoiler the cycles of the slugs whose campaigns are finished just so it looks a bit cleaner, and also so it's easier to scroll to the map post which i also updated! decided to just completely delineate waterfront from shoreline since they are technically different regions. this might be annoying but in the long run it's necessary, imo
i've honestly never played a video game in my life
i'm glad we get to see this path :3 it's a neat little addition
i might do a bit of loredumping about some of the changes in artificer's world later on, i didn't lore update for gourmand at all bcuz there wasn't much to add but that is obviously not true of artificer, haha
anyways have today's banger of a threat theme, waterfront complex. what if they took the best threat theme in the game and made it better
i've honestly never played a video game in my life
today's tune is Metal Canopy! i had two options actually but this makes for the most fitting thread title & i can just use the other one tomorrow where there's not gonna be any new music anyways
tomorrow could
go really badly if raocow insists on beating his head against a wall for a nigh-impossible task
also i realized that long-term the way i was updating the map would not work out so i'm instead choosing this new solution. it's a lot harder to make it clear that shoreline vanilla isn't contiguous and you can't travel directly to the exterior from it but idk what to do about that this will just look cleaner by the end this way awawa
