Skullmonkeys - monkey

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

Fire breathing, eye flinging, human faces substituting the body of a skullmonkey... Has science gone too far?

I love this song, it's so good. This is also definitely where the game bares its fangs.

I think collecting all the swirlies matters for...something. I don't remember what, but I seem to recall it being unimportant.

R8ght yeah, that's it! Anyway since game over erases that (and all the swirlies you have on hand) you are missing out on that forever. It's really no big deal though, don't sweat it.

I mean, as someone who's tried stop motion before in college, clay is very easy to misshape; If you're not careful when you handle it, pieces fall off, details fade, what was once a face becomes a smudge, and generally yeah... Klaymen, like most clay men, are fragile!

yeah universe enema is definitely not normally that good. due to the artstyle enemies take up enough space that it's rare to get a lot of them at once.

The first ynt level seemed to be the hardest by far, with only the last bits of this one getting kinda nuts with the circling ynts.

Ok, legit, that boss fight came outta nowhere and it's kinda amazing how they had this whole turret dealio with no fanfare at all, hahahaha

Question: Is it called a Ma Bird because it makes a "MA" sound, or am I hearing things?

gomenasorry for the late update im resting a bit from social situations after the whole rakugaki incident (im probably blowing it up), while also trying to find a way to control my mood swings and communicate them more to my parents so they can help me inform my doctors (i have memory loss)
like pardon for the blogposting and mental health posting but literally, my brain decided everything was okay earlier this morning and later when i was playing lufia 3 it tried to self flagellate myself for no reason. might be a wee bit bipolar oops :P :P :P :P

Things I like a lot about Skullmonkeys: the music gaining more stuff as the levels progress feels very fun.

Assuming the skullmonkey gate doesn't count, there are 17 worlds and every single one so far has had a new mechanic or enemy or obstacle. Have they all been good? Well, I think the vines in ynt eggs looked pretty bad to use, but yeah, mostly.

Actually I have a question for seasoned skullmonkeys heads out there: do the passwords actually save your item and lives status? Could you use them and still get your 1970s reward?

Okay I guess this level didn't have anything new in it but it was very much a change in structure from every level up until this point, so I'll take it. What a weird level, it's weird that a game like this can still have parts that are considered weird.

Huh. Who would've thought a lunar descent would've been statistically easier than entering the world of Skullmonkeys.
To be fair, though, this game goes out of its way to defy logic, so I suppose in the realm of not making sense, that makes perfect sense.

just been listening to this a little (read: a lot)

i loved yesterday's level so much, and i've been enjoying this playthrough a lot. i never even knew this game existed, but it has such a good vibe to it. i'd say it has some very strong "wacky uncle" energy with a lot of the humor. and there was so much heart put into making everything! i can't help but imagine the thought put into the animations and the designs. the 'destroy the world' animation gets me every time.
even the terrifying beans sequence-- i love it. no context needed.
edit: also i love these lil paper crowns everybody has everywhere :catplanet:

I've read that to get this hidden scene you need to start from the real level one and get every single bonus room, including the 1970 one.
Why don't you eat me?

I am perfectly tasty...
