Re: All the S@nics - X Speed Spotter - SEASON 4 LEAKS BAYBEE (not)
FUN SONIC FACTS!
THE (almost) THIRD ADVENTURE OF SONIC
In the aftermath of the commercial and critical humiliation that was Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sega wasted no time cobbling together a successor that would not only make people forget about their previous effort, but also embrace the series as they once did back during the Mega Drive days. This time they would go beyond Sonic Team, gathering talent from the United States and Europe to help reinvent the franchise. Initially intended to be the next instalment in the Sonic Adventure series, the multinational team came up with enough new gameplay ideas that after only getting a quarter of the way into development, they gave the game a new name, believing that the game's 'feel' was too far removed from what the pair of Adventure games had done to be a proper sequel.
Yoshihisa Hashimoto, Director and Lead Game Designer on the project, stated that "the whole development team is aiming to make Sonic Unleashed the best Sonic game ever, and that includes the Genesis-era titles! We hope that even people who haven't played Sonic games will feel 'Wow, Sonic is back!'"
But would it turn out to be true?

It begins!!!
raocow just casually calling the twist of Chip's identity as soon as he sees him. Poggers.

Re: All the S@nics - X Speed Spotter - SEASON 4 LEAKS BAYBEE (not)
So this is what the Jet and Secret Rings Dark Sonic voices were an audition for.
"Adventure, here we come!" Sometimes i feel that my young child self would've had a great career as a writer for games like this. Half my stories started with the main characters deciding to go off on an adventure.
Unleashed is significant to me in the Sonic tapestry only in that i remember it as the context for hearing about the "Sonic cycle" for the first time. I played a demo of the 360 version and watched the Game Grumps play the Wii version but don't remember much of either. Looking forward to seeing if it gets as crazy as Secret Rings!

Oh man, so this is why they hired raocow to play all the sonics huh?
They knew they had to get the right man for the job.
After all, who else can destroy the world every day like it was no thing, yo?

In a parallel universe, this opening is the ending of Chronicles and the two flow into one another.

How does Sonic's new friend not remember who he is but know all these abilities his partner has?

I'm so behind (I'm at Secret Rings before the Expert Shadow break). Hopefully I'll get caught up in time to be current with Unleashed

Only played the HD version, so this'll be interesting to see. Pretty sure they went with more of a bite-sized stages deal on the SD game though. We'll see how that all pans out. But yeah, that was definitely the same first string of cutscenes. The tutorial stuff however was different.

FUN SONIC FACTS!
Before Sonic Team could begin development of Unleashed, they would need a far better engine than the motley collection that had powered all previous entries. Yoshihisa Hashimoto, who had been hired on as an enemy programmer for Sonic Adventure straight out of college, was assigned as the director for the next big Sonic game to succeed 06. He had worked on the past several Sonic games, and after analyzing past mistakes, worked out that a new and far more capable engine was needed to boost the series forward. His team began working on the Hedgehog Engine in 2005, and spent the next three years in development, in tandem with Unleashed's development.
Sega planned on licensing the engine, and internally used it extensively over the next few years (though unfortunately other companies didn't bite).

I was wondering why Chip gave me Spyro character vibes, and i'm now thinking that it's in his voice acting? He's got sort of that patronising Hunter tone to his voice. Might also be his appearance, a little.
It is really nice how the game shows you what time you're going for if you're going for ranks. I would've liked that in SA2.

I used to call Chip Peppy, since like... Chip isn't his real name. And he kinda just fills that role, you know?

Can't help but feel sorry for this person being completely out of their depth, especially seeing that index suggesting they're starting with the Genesis Sonic 1 as the "first" Sonic game.
Re: All the S@nics - Unleashed (WiiS2) - Hungry Like the Wolf
So real quickly, we're supposed to be speeding through these levels for medals for higher ranks, right? Completely different from the HD side of things where it's more exploration-based stuff.

Re: All the S@nics - Unleashed (WiiS2) - Hungry Like the Wolf
The orchestral music in the intro combined with the display of medals made me wonder if Sonic was back in the Olympics again so soon! I feel a lot of the music is a little too epic for its own good, like there's something that feels non-Sonic about it. But you know what, it is 2008, so i guess it's right around time for a Sonic analogue to Mario Galaxy.
And wow, i had no idea the werehog's stretchiness was actually explained in-world. I figured it was just a gameplay contrivance to make were-Sonic's attacks look more dynamic like Mario's giant hands/feet in SM64. (The Unleashed demo that i played back in the day was a daytime stage only.)

Hearing the Sonic Unleashed battle theme always makes me think of Pink yelling "NOT THE BATTLE MUSIC!" in one of the Worms videos. XD

So Devil May Cry when
I would say check the scrolling text whenever you return to the area hub. It actually mentioned Tails by name there.

Because this wasn't mentioned in the YouTube comments, here is an image of the Wii Classic Controller:

Notice the face buttons? That's why they're lower-case in the game: Because it's following the Classic Controller, which you have it set to.
