ASMBXT Discussion Thread
ASMBXT Discussion Thread
I've been considering tinkering with the SMBX engine and learning about it since "The Great Empire" LP but never had the motivation. Since it was mentioned in todays TTB episode I figured why not get the ball rolling on a Talkhaus collab?

Anyone interested in throwing a level into the mix?

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
I've wanted to make a level for a while, but I've been having trouble locating the latest version on the interwebs (besides the special Talking Time version.) Would it be possible for someone to link it? It's probably about as legal as Lunar Magic.

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
If my sources in another thread is right, then it should be perfectly legal to distribute copies.
I started this topic on the LP thread because raocow mentioned it. I always just figured a mod would move it if it actually went anywhere.
Here the post to merge(for the mods mostly) viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11121&p=145718#p145694

In order to distinguish it from a2mt, we should go full hog-wild opposite town and litteraly accept anything that 1)works 2)is relatively work safe-ish 3)doesnt have copyrighted commerical music (for lp purposes).

Being not the best guy at level design, and in the interest of getting this done fast, I approve of this.raocow wrote:In order to distinguish it from a2mt, we should go full hog-wild opposite town and litteraly accept anything that 1)works 2)is relatively work safe-ish 3)doesnt have copyrighted commerical music (for lp purposes).
Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
I also like the idea of "anything goes" because it prevents filler levels.
I've included the link to the TT Bros. wiki page because it has a few points about what the engine can and can't do.

I'm in for at least one level.

This is very vague. Can it be changed to anything that won't set off the Youtube Content ID system? When you consider most music in your LPs is copyrighted (from games and whatnot) it seems fair. I just really would like to use some more obscure music that isn't originally from a videogame.3)doesnt have copyrighted commerical music (for lp purposes).

Anything you're liable to find in an album sold at music stores or wal-mart is off, is basically what I read that as.
I think it should be obvious what commercial songs he's talking about.

Before people start making things though perhaps we should decide upon which version of the engine we use.
Are there any arguments against using the TT one from the wiki?

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
I've got an idea for a level, but indeed nobody's decided on which engine to use yet?
Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
Tell you what, guys. Since I'm technically a Talkhaus user, I can set up a quick AXMT dev kit for you, so you don't have to worry about editing the STTB one.
It would help if I had access to all the ASMT-themed graphics that were made for SMBX a while back, as well as the high quality ASMT soundtrack to replace some of the default STTB tunes.

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
Oh man, I was wondering whether this would start happening sometime.
Well, as a guy who tried to help with A2MT, mostly finished his level, ran into about two technical problems, got demoralized, and then disappeared for nearly half a year, I think I'd like to help with this. From what I can tell from having heard about it, the engine seems a whole lot more parse-able to someone like me who doesn't know it inside and out.
...Okay, really, I just feel bad about not contributing to A2MT and fleeing for a year and a half because of that. I kinda want to come back and make up for that, if I can.
But yeah, whatever. tl;dr, I'm in.

What sort of tool(s) is/are used for SMBX hacking? I'll consider making a level, there's one I mentioned in another thread somewhat jokingly that would be hilarious to see raocow play.
Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
SMBX comes with its own level editor so you can use that.GameMasterGuy wrote:What sort of tool(s) is/are used for SMBX hacking? I'll consider making a level, there's one I mentioned in another thread somewhat jokingly that would be hilarious to see raocow play.

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
i rarely even come here anymore but I'm still willing to contribute to this
mainly because the editor interface is a lot simpler (to me anyway)

Yay, somebody hit Zaidyer up with the files and we can get this train rolling. :)Zaidyer wrote:Tell you what, guys. Since I'm technically a Talkhaus user, I can set up a quick AXMT dev kit for you, so you don't have to worry about editing the STTB one.

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
Just a notice that I may be unexpectedly delayed for a day or two before I can upload the results, though. *probably* should have known that before I said anything.
Although if you already have STTB 1+2, you can build levels with that temporarily and expect to drop them into the ASMT-themed dev kit later on.

The editor totally seems easy enough.
I'd love to give this a shot.

I do wonder if we could put the musical talent we have to use. Here are a couple of wyatt's remastered ASMT stuff.

Re: ASMBXT: Because Why Not?
The SMBX editor seems stupidly easy to break. I was messing around with it earlier and three times I clicked the wrong button or did the wrong thing and broke it.
