Level Names

Post by raocow »

So I was thinking.

Well, more precisely, I thought of something as I took a quick look at the budding level list - I find a lot of the level names are... I don't know. Somewhat... generic? Overdescriptive? And then I thought it'd be awesome if we could have a sort of hidden gimmick concerning the level names, a sort of game-wide easter egg.

Like, what if all the levels in the game where named after, say, a song or a piece of music? Anything at all, and it wouldn't have to relate to the content - just share a name. It would still be very open, and easy to adapt to the already submitted level. But at the same time, it would add a certain 'connectivity' between all the levels in the game, and a subtle surprise for any player that is paying attention.

There could be other naming 'things', too, but something vague and open like that would be pretty easy to work with.

Yes? No?

that would be pretty cool, especially because I don't really like the name of my level.
Maybe the first letters of the level names put together in the order of level numbers equal some sentence, that you can for example read if you open it in Lunar magic and check the level names editor.
(That would probably be a bit too hidden  )

I fail to see the point (who actually cares about level names?), honestly, but as long as I don't have to come up with anything...

Aww but I like my level name.
But I also like the idea of completely irrelevant level names too.

All level names should be a random adjective followed by a random noun.

Here's some I just randomly generated:
Unshapeable Tapeworm
Unfimbriated Whalebone
Misfortunate Fruitfulness
Nonnicotinic Dehydration
Promisable Clothesline

good idea, no?

There wouldn't really be a 'point' to it, it's just something silly.

I dunno, it was just a summary of some morning musing.

edit: haha, that may be going a bit too far! Though I like the idea, in theory at least.

Some level names seem really good to me, while others are indeed a bit generic.
Some connection between level names would be funny, but if it is to much trouble to think of something for certain levels, we should just as easily be able to drop it.

Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but I just don't want to force people to name their level to something they might not want, y'know? Especially when there's no real point to it.

Personally I don't care, so I guess it's up to you guys.

I think every level should have a "clever" title.

Like you could submit your level and people could give suggestions as to what would be a good name for it.

If we don't want to do that Daarkbuu's idea sounds hilarious

I think we should just make it like people suggest clever names. I don't like the idea of being forced to make your name pointless. The name is a fun thing.

Maybe we could have world of pointless names or something. Kinda like smw's special world.

If it's just in one world it's dumb.

Nah, if people don't like the idea, fine, we won't do it, simple as that.

It'd only be partially random, because you could choose the two words yourself. I get what you're trying to say, though.

You know, I'm surprised people are considering my idea, I was being stupid when I suggested it myself.

Exactly, I don't think we should make this mandatory unless everyone agrees with it. It's their level and they should have the freedom to name it whatever they want (unless some people might find the name offensive, of course).

Dang it I said that I conceided that not everyone agreed to it, so it's okay! We can drop it! It's okay!
