The ROM help thread

Post by JellyBlock »

Tails_155's Note: Please use this thread for all your ROM issues, we don't need 50 threads for it.

NOTE: WE WILL NOT TELL YOU WHERE TO GET A ROM IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE! DO YOUR OWN WORK.

From now on (14:28 EDT 29.5.2010) if you make a new thread about ROMs not working in some way, you forfeit your level slot. Post here and only here.

Whenever I try to edit the overworld so I can access the level I am creating, it doesn't show up in-game. (And when I say edit, I mean just changing the level number on a tile) The overworld shows up as unedited when I open up the game, and I can't play my level. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Or is it just a stupid mistake on my end?

Did you make sure to save the overworld to the rom separately from the main lunar magic window?

You are restarting from an empty file after editing the overworld, right?

Also make sure the IPS patch isn't in the same folder as the ROM. I heard that somewhere... not sure if it's what's causing the problem though.

Did you replace GFX0F? Because that seems like what the message would look like with the original graphics file. It show up as DEMO START just like it should on my end, and I'm using the latest version of the base ROM.

Didn't replace anything, didn't change tiles, just the level. But it works now after I edited the level a bit more.

Current Problems: Sprite Limitations, Occasional MASS slowdown for like 3 seconds (it happens like 1/2th the time)

Working on it. I said current problems.

Got rid of the lag. Just need one sprite replacement (that should already be in the rom, I just need to find it), and the music port and it's done.

I'm assuming you put the right sprite memory and all that, right?

I mean you don't give us a lot of detail at all, here.

I prefer to be vague with something until I'm satisfied with it. Yes, I just need to find one platform and the music, and it's done.

Sorry for the vagueness.

Although this level I like it so far even though I think it'll probably be under the cut since I'm actually trying to make it like a normal game level and not a "HEY YOU, YOU MADE ME PLAY A HARD GAME NOW YOU PLAY MINE AND GO DIE LEVEL"

Communication.

The biggest problems we've had every step of the way come from lack of communication. The issue I'm handling now (with the music) came from it even. Please, be as thorough as you can when you have a problem or it cannot be fixed.

I meant more details about your problem but OH WELL.

Also, dude, we TOTALLY need 'normal difficulty' level, so consider that a GOOD thing.

The main problem is Sprite Limitations, parts of different sprites (Line guided platforms disappear and reappear randomly, etc, never fully disappear). I don't see what's causing it either as their isn't a lot of sprites on screen at any point. (The max sprites on any screen is 8)

The simple Sprite switch is that I need to find the line guided platform that doesn't move until you land on it and that's about it, so that's just me finding it.

The music is what I'm worried about the least because even if I can't get a port of the one I want I'm sure I can find something to replace it.

Do you have the sprite tile memory set correctly? Since we have the no more sprite tile limits patch applied, setting 10 should take care of just about all problems of that kind.

I wonder how many times I'm going to make that mistake.

Alright the other thing is I can't find the line guided platform that doesn't move until mario lands on it.

Isn't there a sprite like that or am I going looney?

According to level F, that would be sprite 63.

Alright then I'm going to have to change that part since I'm using a different graphic set.

Level Testing Problem [UNSOLVED]

Post by yoshibear1009 »

I am trying to test my level right now (To see how the palette looks In-Game) and (After modding the OW so that I can access my level) the OW stays the same (Yes, I've made a new file), meaning that I am inable to access my level. :( When I take it out of the A2MT folder, everything looks all effed up and the background makes my eyes bleed (The BG MAP16 is changed when I move the level) >.<Does anybody have a solution for this?

Did you have a clean ROM?

It should be clean, I have about 50 ROMs that are in a separate folder and copy-pasted out whenever I need them... and they worked for all my other ROM test-hacks..... Unless this ROM felt nervous, and in that nervousness, it decided to do suicide (For some reason) by arbitrarily editing itself whenever it loses its friend, mr.IPS :p
