Sorry about the delay in getting back to you guys, but, yes, the game is indeed Pikmin 2. Now you can start asking questions about the track I'm thinking of, and guessing from there.

• doesn't play near a large body of water
• is a cave/subterranean theme, associated with a particular design/tileset
• is not heard any of the caves found in either the Awakening Wood or Valley of Repose
• is not Emergence Cave, Shower Room, Subterranean Complex, or Giant Breadbug.

Is the track associated primarily with combat?

It isn't.

I will mention, though, that very few themes in Pikmin 2 relate specifically to combat, due to the nature of how its soundtrack is formatted.

I'm gonna say no, for the most part. That said, for one part of the game, an argument could be made otherwise, in a sense.

Yes, I still remember the theme. No, the track in question does not feature in any caves in either of those two areas.
