The arts.
Paintings that strive to look real are the best ones.

<+Jcranjel> Today, I was sitting in Panera Bread, when they called out "Optimus Prime your bagel is ready." Casually a boy who looks about 7 walks up and takes it. He is my hero.MLIA

You know that if a painting is better than a photo, it's a really good painting.vifs wrote:Wow i really like the 2nd one, the sky has a really cool effect and stuff
Too bad all the great old painter guys died with the camera.

Re: The arts.
I disagree with that, I would rather see someone's take on a landscape then see them documenting it with a realistic painting.Tito Approved wrote:Paintings that strive to look real are the best ones.
I rather see stuff like this:

Paintings are awesome, pure and simple, because reality is just so BORING.

I love going outside and looking at the sky and the trees and even the buildings and thinking "Man, this is all real!" because it seems pretty crazy.raocow wrote:Paintings are awesome, pure and simple, because reality is just so BORING.
I mean, take trees. They are all gnarly and strange and even a bit disgusting. What if children grew up like that too, with limbs coming out wherever they could be useful? We'd all be going around with like five arms with random amounts of fingers on each.

Paintings are awesome, but reality really isn't all that boring. But you can't just stare at a million pictures of something and then say that you have now experienced it, you have to go out and see it in real life.supercharizard64 wrote:art guy without his examples.. but i agree with raocow there...

Re: The arts.
Arguably the staring at paintings is not intended to replace staring at the real thing, but rather to be a different activity altogether, where you see the artist's interpretation of this real thing; or if fictional, you see whatever message, note, or just happy little picture the artist is trying to convey.
This is shown by the fact that you can look at the mona lisa online for hours, but can also ask if it really compares to going to see the real picture. Here you are doing both activities at once, and as such the activities are different.
