how does early 90s eurobeat hit that "late night driving in an empty road with only your front lights and the distant city lights illuminating the path" fake nostalgia vibe so well in me

Never a fun time when it takes you a few hours to get to sleep like it did for me yesterday, but whatever. Finally got that rest. Ugh, it's too early for this kind of heat. Freaking climate change deniers.

  • Walked all over downtown to do some medical tests
  • ate four small pastries (chocolate queijada, pistachio and coffee eclairs, 1 (one) lemon macaron) and a cheese and ham toast at a bakery
  • nearly lost my breath from all the walking because of the sheer distance from the test center to my house on top of walking about to look at shoes while we waited for some time to pass before doing one of the tests
  • lied down in bed
  • then did some exercise earlier and i kind of want to do more exercise

shout out to halls feel tipsy on rakugaki mario, for making a person in the comments seem incredibly upset (i may be reading too much into it) at the idea of someone making a mean mario level @ "mario level designers are greedy and mindless wrt difficulty because *looks at writing on hand* they want to make mean levels to hog more spotlight real estate????". who knew bad levels like that were the summation of all the evils in the world

people have been so aggro in the comments, and im not sure if it's just me misreading people as i usually am (i am autismo, pardone). like im not enjoying the hack much either but some people come off to me like they're taking some of the bad levels as an affront to human decency. if i'm misreading, i apologize, but man.

if i get comments like this on AAT, i'm definitely roasting them in the discord until a bit before it gets to the point of polluting our state of mind due to overexposure to negativity. i have no care for integrity or getting into personal, public drama with AAT at this point, i'm mostly gonna stay hands off of like Mario Level Making Politics, despite thinking most of the stages are extremely good and perfectly fine and not at all rude outside of like a few of them

i'm so fatigued with so much other bullshit in my life that im trying to wrangle on top of like literal wild mood swings, and i don't want to make levels for aat anymore lmao, i dont think im good enough yet to compare to everyone else, even the beginners. i'd rather just practice level design and porting and asm on a "scrapbook" rom (porting just needs addmusick, midis and sources for samples or guidance on how to adsr though) and just focus on management and baserom handling.

okay so,

If you mean Hyperkinesis or whatever, Thomas/kaizoman666 made a patch that allowed you to upload a level's tilemap and layout as a mode 7 background. Ferpy, the author of Hyperkinesis, took to expand upon the base patch (which was only released as a tech demo in C3?) and have the stage alter dynamically, likely loading new layer 1 data with each transition (which is basically a table, an array of bytes, basically).

I believe the first Goemon game for the SNES does this in the Otafu Headquarters stage during the rotation room.

Good stage, but the commentary felt like a circlejerk.

Gotta vent somewhere, might as well do it here.

So I was playing DFO and doing the Noblesse Code dungeon, which is a hard endgame dungeon full of weird gimmicks. I got to the final boss for the first time, and though I went in with a small amount of health, I was doing surprisingly good, dodging the attacks and keeping up a decent DPS... Until I get killed by what I believe was an OHKO mechanic that I failed to clear? At least it didn't look like I got hit by anything, but still randomly died anyways. Boss was almost dead too, so that feels soooooooo bad... Also fuck those stealth missions you randomly find in the dungeon. The game is super not built for this kind of thing, and they are way too punishing. Losing 25% of your max HP if you get caught, in a dungeon where you can't heal is bullshit.

The loot wasn't even good, either... Bleh. :sandwich:

Yeah, I don't even check in on friends there anymore. Complete dumpster fire. I know this topic barely gets any traffic nowadays, but it's better than the site at this point. Probably should just change the name... and done.

Some furry friends still use it for furry porn meanwhile I'm spending most of my time reblogging shitposts on The Tumbls™. I'll keep my twitter around for the few stragglers still poasting there, most of the bara artists I know have moved on to like FA, dA, Tumblr, Itaku, Cohost. Still need to set up Cohost and Itaku, possibly upload some old shit to dA, Weasyl and FA (i don't want to put nsfw stuff on dA, shit's too close to the mainstream for it to be safe).

I'll only use Pillowfort once I get money/once I don't have to pay for it (which ever one comes first).

---------------------------

Might as well copypaste this too:
Been adding a bunch of games I want to play from the NES+FDS, SG1000+SMS, MD+MCD+32X, TG16+TGCD libraries to my Backloggery so I can have a list of games I can just pick from when I'm bored. Also a bunch from the SNES library, still need to dig up more. They're primarily from the Japanese libraries, using Retro Game FAN and its admin's summaries + the included Amazon JP reviews as a catalog/resource.

I'm also using Jeremy Parish's retrospectives, and /v/'s Recommended Games Wiki for western only titles and SG-1000 games, which are not in the Retro Game FAN site. The average content warnings for 4chan and gamer!Reddit (let's be real here lmao) adjacent stuff applies to the /v/ wiki, so be wary. I'm already used to it myself, being a /v/ and /vr/ regular lurker for a good portion of the 2010s and before that, an Encyclopedia Dramatica lurker at the age of like 12.

I'm planning to go through more console and computer libraries as well as Steam/Itch/GOG/Epic/DLSite/Vector/etc and cross-reference with other trusty sources (European Microcomputer and SMS retrospectives, American retro PC nerd nonsense, HG101, queer gamer sites, East Asian game catalog sites, game sites from other parts of the world like Brazil), and try to add what interests me and what was culturally significant to various parts of the world that I can feasibly play: either in English, Japanese with some translation help and a guide, or in another language I can understand like Spanish, and preferrably on my current PC or on a jailbroken 3DS/Vita/PS3/Wii.

I'm deffo not gonna be able to play everything before I croak but y'know, being aware of history is always important.
It may seem too much for the average person, but personally I like learning what I can about video games.

Yelsey may associate "games as art" with pretentious affairs like Braid and the like, but I like to consider games as art in a way that like. They're an artform to be respected. You can make many unique things in the format that you can't with tv shows or film. It's something that deserves a lot of respect, both the bad and the good games.

Been working on this soundtrack list that takes one song from each individual game I've beaten occasionally with remixes allowed if the versions play or sound differently enough. Got through everything on Nintendo systems today I could find online with a quick visit from what little I played on the Genesis and PC over the years. Currently working on Playstation stuff now and will finish with Microsoft once that's done. I'll eventually make it all public. Thankfully through the majority of it now.
