I've only heard of this "female" thing recently. I understand how it could be used disrespectfully in some contexts, but it's been blown out of proportion. It can either be a positive, neutral, or negative identity, and feminist of all people made it some more negative than it ever was before.
It's a political tacit to redefine language. I prefer to use language as a method of understand between people.

It's a pretty bad thing that it has come to this point. If people are afraid to speak out of fear of offending someone then very little progress can be made. It's pretty much makes some groups of people impossible to approach with honest questions. However, some people will discover innovated ways to be offended making the situation worst.
