Brilliant. It's not like adults are generally called women and youths are generally called girls, not in the slightest.paste wrote:how dare you call girls women

I like how you guys are still going about this, even after fluffi-dono apologized for whatever he did a page ago.
This is just like the SCSF thread, one side taking offense and the other side saying it's an overreaction/misunderstanding, but neither is pleasant to hear in the ongoing drama.

I don't think we're really talking about fluffi anymore. That's called "going off a tangent" or "holding a conversation".ano0maly wrote:I like how you guys are still going about this, even after fluffi-dono apologized for whatever he did a page ago.

I fail to see why the first half of that sentence was necessary, and any major dictionary disagrees with you.starfire wrote:life is really tough i know, but women can refer to people of all agesFalky wrote:What about if you're also referring to girls (i.e. younger people) though? I'm pretty sure it's correct to use the more universal term, sweet cheeks, when referring to womyn.

in my head i use "girls" and "boys" to refer to the entire gender, but that sounds pretty dumb in a serious context so if im having a (relatively and by my standards) non-silly conversation i default to females and males
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Female as a noun is often used in serious conversation. It's all about context. In most context where you use female as a noun, people will equally use male. However, I never seen so much of as a side note about using the word male in the same manner. In the minds of the feminist, female is a depowering word so why bring up using male? That works opposite to the whole point of feminism, which derives from the word female itself. I'm surprise they didn't turn this the opposite direction.Leet wrote:in my head i use "girls" and "boys" to refer to the entire gender, but that sounds pretty dumb in a serious context so if im having a (relatively and by my standards) non-silly conversation i default to females and males
Is this a problem in society? It really depends on context when the word female is being used. If it's used in an equal way as male, then it's probably adults having serious conversations that doesn't center around social justice. Yes, those types of conversation exist in the real world.
It becomes less common to use male and female as noun when things start to be more personal. If you know that name of someone and already know the age and name, people tend to use woman and girl. Actually directly calling someone "a female" is pretty rare. It's can be very disrespectful in that context.

The quote from the author often appearing in dictionaries of quotationsBartle wrote:then how do you explain Little WomenFalky wrote:I fail to see why the first half of that sentence was necessary, and any major dictionary disagrees with you.
never seemed very intelligible to me. But it's possibly an oblique joke referring to Thackery's epitome of The Sorrows of Young Werther:All is fish that comes to the literary net. Goethe puts his joys and sorrows into poems; I turn my adventures into bread and butter.
Can an educated man (I use the term advisedly) think of Fluffi without thinking of Werther?Werther had a love for Charlotte
Such as words could never utter;
Would you know how first he met her?
She was cutting bread and butter.
Charlotte was a married lady,
And a moral man was Werther,
And, for all the wealth of Indies,
Would do nothing for to hurt her.
So he sighed and pined and ogled,
And his passion boiled and bubbled,
Till he blew his silly brains out,
And no more was by it troubled.
Charlotte, having seen his body
Borne before her on a shutter,
Like a well-conducted person,
Went on cutting bread and butter.

Oh geez, is it really that bad? My speech patterns tend to randomly shift between overly serious and formal to non formal stuff all the time, so male and female just sort of crept into my everyday vocabulary...
