I've been using a chair that is large enough for two people to sit in. It's a tad large.

Who was it that wanted deeper conversations in this thread a while back? Do chairs count?
I have a black spinny chair I got from my old job, but my desk is currently covered in Magic cards so I rarely set up my laptop there. I use my bed otherwise, because I'm lazy. =P

I finished David Mitchell's wonderful Number9Dream this past weekend. I already read two other books by him, Cloud Atlas (which you may know from the movie version by Tom Tykwer and the Wachowskis, which was actually the reason I read the book) and the really, really great Ghostwritten (which is probably my favorite book).
What I always loved Mitchell's writing is how he manages to interweave stories of different style and setting, but doing so very homogenously, and he didn't disappoint here either! This time, instead of having 6 (as in Cloud Atlas) or 9 (as in Ghostwritten) semi-independant stories (although the connectivity is what really makes those books stand out), he had one story, but most chapters featured 'different' sections, and the way he juxtaposed them was phenomenal. Re: Twitter Thread
So I moved into some type of complex for this semester like a month ago. Turns out our block of the complex uses more internet between the 8 of us than the internet provider can handle (whoops I might've been part of the problem.) Hopefully by sometime next week our section of the complex will have a bit more internet so our connections will quit getting broken like once a week for some amount of time.

Microsoft just announced Windows 9.
Except it's called Windows 10. I'm not kidding.

Re: Twitter Thread
It's not like this really is Windows 10. Not counting .1/revision stuff, you've had 1, 2, 3, 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8, and now 10. And you thought the Wii U was a bad name!
On a side note, XP for life, yo. Come to think of it, the only three versions I've had of Windows on my three computers over the years were 95, XP, and 8.

Re: Twitter Thread
So, Windows 12 really. Leave it to Microsoft to not be able to count, considering microsoft minutes and whatnot~ That does make me curious why they went with Windows 7 as a name, I really thought that it honestly was the seventh version. Or could they only be counting "major" versions somehow?

Re: Twitter Thread
Bean's list above was just the "major" versions. As well as the .1 rereleases there's also the NT series, the Server series, the Embedded series, the Mobile series, the Phone series and Windows PE.Bwarch wrote:Or could they only be counting "major" versions somehow?
The way Microsoft's marketing team arrived at 7 was to use their internal version numbers.
Windows 1-3.1 were versions 1.0 - 3.1
Windows 95 was version 4.0
Windows 98 was version 4.1
Windows ME was version 4.9
Windows 2000 was version 5.0
Windows XP was version 5.1
Windows Vista was version 6.0
However, someone forgot to tell marketing that Windows 7 is actually version 6.1. You can check that yourself by running "winver" if you're on Windows 7.
To add to the ridiculousness, Windows 8 is version 6.2.9.
Re: Twitter Thread
If only it was 6.1.9. Booyaka! Also, a welcome back to you, Bwarch.
Re: Twitter Thread
or thats just an internal version number set as so for compatibility reasonsHowever, someone forgot to tell marketing that Windows 7 is actually version 6.1.
#tmyk
the argument for windows version numbering is arbitrary too but i dont have any particular issues w/ it

Re: Twitter Thread
Well Apple's OS has been on version 10 for the last 10 years I think.
Apparently OS versions mean literally nothing. And if that's the case, they should stop giving them names that are just numbers, give them cool names.
e: oh, also happy return day Bwarch
