Try tea! It's what the more "refined," "elegant," and "picturesque" people drink.

I like tea and I do drink it somewhat frequently! It doesn't seem to wake me up as much as coffee though. I don't know, that could just be a placebo. Does tea generally have as much caffeine as coffee?

Caffeine pills? I have some on hand in case I get tired driving long distances, and they help.

i got voted off a tf2 server for the first time

two or three other people on the server were bashing free-to-players, with things like "f2ps are HUMAN GARBAGE" and "i wish f2ps would die"

i told them to knock it off, nobody cares how much you hate f2ps

they voted me off?

Having been unemployed for over half a year now, I don't have a sleep schedule to throw off.

That's not true. There's substantial recent evidence aarchaeopteryx is not the first bird. Additionally, it has little significance as a specimen as we've found out that dinosaurs not only had feathers (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... e-biggest/), but archaeopterix likely couldn't fly (http://www.app.pan.pl/article/item/app51-305.html).

The chicken is, if memory serves, much closer related to the allosaur than it is to the archaeopteryx. And as chickens and modern birds are descended from allosaur, they are part of the family dinosauria and thus dinosaurs are still very much alive. Birds are, in fact, dinosaurs - they're fairly closely related to what you normally think of such and are well within the family classification by most modern paleontological standards!

I may, umm, know a paleontologist pretty well.

(related)
I am fully aware that birds are very related to dinosaurs. It's visually obvious. Taxonomically though, a bird is anything in the class Aves, and dinosaurs aren't, and Archeopteryx is. They're in the same family, but taxonomic families are huge. The reference I remember stated that archeopteryx is the oldest known specimen to be uncontroversially put in the class Aves. Maybe the controversy has abated since I read that.

But so what if archeopteryx couldn't fly? Flying isn't a requirement of being a bird. Ostriches, emus, cassowaries, rheas, kiwi birds and all the penguins all can't fly, but they're still birds. Similarly, being able to fly doesn't make you a bird either. Many insects can fly and they're not birds. A bird is a vertebrate with two legs, feathers and wings that lays eggs. Dinosaurs have two legs and lay eggs, and some have feathers, but they don't have wings, and so aren't birds.

It's interesting that chickens are more closely related to allosaurs than archeopteryx, but the hippo's closest living relatives are cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises etc.) which is also interesting but doesn't really prove anything.
