I've been really addicted to this song as of late. The video's pretty cool too. At least it isn't SHAKY CAM FLASHING LIGHTS BAND PLAYING LIVE FOOTAGE. (Well...I mean, it is but it isn't JUST that.)

Two months ago, microfunk.ru launched a project called “Applied Minimalism” and encouraged all producers to submit tracks with the condition that it was created from only one sample – the kick drum of the classic Roland TR-808 drum machine.

Over 70 tunes were sent in by various artists (including Subwave, Nphonix, Oak, Bop and others) and finally, after accurately mixing all the tracks together, the Microfunk crew are proud to present the final mix of ”Applied Minimalism”

Holy shit. This thing sounds gold. Haven't had the time to listen to it in its entirety yet, but I'll definitely do so over the week.
I love how they just mix the tracks of different artists together and kinda create this... "meta-work". Awesome stuff.

In other news, C418 recently released his new Album "One", including soundtracks from the Minecraft documentary and about 15 other new songs. Give it a listen on bandcamp, it has an awesome sense of flow and generally feels like a very stable and finely tuned concept album. Some songs to start with are "preliminary artform" or "post success depression", but you'll only get the full feeling of the album if you listen through it in one sitting.
(Also, if you like vocals, specifically female japanese ones, try the last one - it's by the woman who sung the Plants vs. Zombie credits theme!)

Glad ya dig it, I know I heavily dig it myself. Highlight for me is around the 13 minute mark, absolute chills first time I listened to it. So very technical and machine-like throughout the entire thing, it's amazing.

And thanks for the heads up on C418! Always did love seeing new music from him.
Alive was so freaking AWESOOOOOME when he came out with that, aaaaaaa~

So a while ago a friend of mine linked me to this interesting album of chiptune music featuring one artist for every song, it was a challenge album with the goal being to make your chiptune just one minute in length.

I rated the album with the 5 star system (Was a thing I was doing at the time) (Linky: http://thesongswelove.tumblr.com/post/4 ... ff-goodbye) (And linky for the album itself, I do not recommend but just for the sake of the story linking: http://1-minute.bandcamp.com/ )

It mostly consisted of average tunes to horrible tunes, but there was one standout that was pretty neat by a guy named Rush Coil who I'd never heard of before. So since he was the only one to get a five star rating me and my friend looked up his work and HOO BOY~

This guy is an amazing chiptune artist and dabbles in other stuff on the side too, apparently his work was even featured on Adult Swim when it came to his 8-Bit Christmas album.

http://rushcoil.bandcamp.com/
https://soundcloud.com/rushcoil

First steps into his work, songs to check out first are "Fairgrounds" on the Perfect Service OST, "Intro" on the Shelf EP (Which is also the song featured in the 1 Minute album) and "Envolutra" only available on his Soundcloud.

Well then, if we're gonna be promoting artists we personally know...

https://soundcloud.com/gateway-lies/hig ... d-invasion

Great guy from germany I've spent some time with in 2012. Half of his stuff are anime remixes (good ones, at that), the other half is him messing around with FL. He has really great musical talent but barely ever puts it to work nowadays. Still, nice guy to check out if you're into remixes, mashups and trance.

https://soundcloud.com/rafavalenty

Random DJ/producer I met on Ibiza last year. He runs a record shop and wants to make it big in the music business. Hasn't really gotten anywhere yet, but he's a great guy and he works hard to gain reputation. Really ambitious, lays down awesome beats, anywhere from minimal to psy-trance and deep house.

I used to only really listen to video game music and remixes and stuff (my favorite remixers probably being OCRemix), but now I realize I also really like hard rock/metal and stuff like that. My favorite band is probably Pillar, my favorite song probably Aftershock by Pillar

I'm going to take this seriously even if it's meant to not be.

Trance:
BT, Infected Mushroom if you're up for Psytrance, PinkiePieSwear, Andi, melodysheep, some of Daft Punk's work on the Tron Legacy OST could be considered trance I think, Nicholas Dominique...
Damn I really don't know as much trance as I should. I should rectify this sometime.

Drum and Bass:
Maduk, EHT, H8_Seed, Underpony, Mindtalk, Squarepusher, Lavender Harmony, Wolfgun.

(Spoilers: Some of that is MLP related since I was heavily into that scene for some time.)

Monstercat has a ton of drum and bass on their label but gods I really began to not care about that thing the more stuff they released, do not look into Monstercat.

Never did take the time to learn what the heck jungle is as a genre.

It goes without saying that Renard has dabbled in every electronic genre as far as I can tell, so that's a thing too.

I'mma link this just for the hell of it, some drum and bass and some trance in there:
http://jessevalentinemusic.bandcamp.com ... ce-machine

For my contribution to the thread in general I've been going nuts over this lately, it's a ponified parody of Titanium and it's just HNNNNNGH:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp93CoKICcQ

If anybody ever has any questions on electronic music in general or wants artists recommended to them, feel free to ask me! I'm heavily into the scene and I love the music so yeah.

Tim Minchin is mainly classified as a comedian, but he's actually a really incredible pianist.
He shows off some piano skills here.

Also, I would check out Pendulum. They're pretty mainstream dNb.

DO YOU KNOW SQUAREPUSHER?
He is heavily glitch most of the time, but a dnb element is often there.

I suppose I forgot just how breakbeaty his stuff can get. I guess I just never associated the two before.

On a similar note, I recommend a heavy dose of Aphex Twin and Amon Tobin.

Been hooked on some music from the SNES game ActRaiser. I know it's just BGM, but it's beautifully composed by Yuzo Koshiro. I suggest checking it out here or on the YouTubes.

Marshall Mathers LP 2 just came out, so I've been listening to that. Yeah, I like it; there's at least a good ten songs I like a lot.
Also, iTunes keeps messing up my album covers.

Made one of these during the downtime
http://25.media.tumblr.com/325c8ba319b0 ... 1_1280.png

The template is from a thing that /mu/ on 4chan loves to use for threads and to discover each others music taste (and thereby hate on each other of course)

Was really fun deciding on the tiers. I mostly went with a rubric of "How often do I listen to this album?" combined with "How much did this album resonate with me?" When it came to the top 4 those are albums I listen to aaaaall the time, and that resonate with me extremely much. Jonsi and Renard of course being two people who have shaped my vision of music and what the medium is and can be entirely. They're the pinnacle of what a person can accomplish (imo of course), so it was fairly obvious from there that they should be in the top spots.

Edit: Oh and I confined myself to only one album from each artist, so I basically had to figure out which one from each I liked the most if I was familiar with their library.
