Re: YouTube Stuff (mostly the management screwing up AMIRITE)
LGR's videos are some of the least offensive things on the internet.
But I'm sure YouTube won't think twice about removing ads from the 6 trilliong Spider Man Elsa Get Each Other Pregnant And Eat Each Others' Shit And Put Syringes In Their Butts fetish porn for babies videos because they rake in so much ad revenue.

This is the third time this year that dope has gotten in trouble, and the second now for dropping a n-bomb. He's a terrible person and has been for years (first learned who he was from Retsupurae), and it's disheartening to see him be successful while simultaneously being a big reason why YouTube's screwed up ad revenue for ones that are decent people.

I can't help but laugh at the sheer number of people saying the firewatch thing is DMCA abuse, even though it's completely legal, as far as I'm aware.
That said, legal≠good, so I won't pick a side in the moral debate

It's pretty obvious abuse. A lot of the same people defending the devs here are the same people who have, in the past, gotten up in arms over a developer censoring negative reviews. It's the exact same logic here but on even shakier grounds because PewDiePie being retarded was literally completely unrelated to Firewatch in any way, shape or form.

Re: YouTube Stuff (mostly the management screwing up AMIRITE)
I might be wrong but I thought they didn't technically need a reason? Like all they need to do is say "you can't make videos" for any arbitrary reason... Of course, it's still abuse in that they're doing something they probably shouldn't with it, it's just not legally abusing it, as far as I know

Re: YouTube Stuff (mostly the management screwing up AMIRITE)
They gave out a blanket go ahead on their site for streamers, lpers, and reviewers that had no details about removing videos for any reasons. So removing a video for arbitrary reasons like that isn't going to fly easily if it were to be taken to court.Coryman wrote: ↑6 years agoI might be wrong but I thought they didn't technically need a reason? If they did want the videos removed it'd probably have been a lot more productive and far less damaging to their own reputation to simply get in contact with him and ask that he remove the Firewatch videos and not upload anything else from them in the future.

Definitely. I think this was more trying to cause a scene than anything.
As for the blanket statement, I've heard people say it's not legally binding, it's just a guideline, etc. I'm no expert though, and a lot of it is in legal grey areas

Re: YouTube Stuff (mostly the management screwing up AMIRITE)
Youtube is adding a feature where viewers spend ~$5.00 to get a badge and privileges in chat, which can support gaming channels that livestream with a moderate number of viewers? What a new concept!!

I just noticed that in youtube new, the top bar is black regardless of whether or not I'm in dark mode or not.
Are other people seeing this too? If so then that's a... interesting addition to the site.

They really need to stop fucking with things. Your subscriptions page should always show ALL subscribed videos in chronological order. Otherwise the page is utterly useless since you have no idea if you're missing anything or not.

Re: YouTube Stuff (mostly the management screwing up AMIRITE)
So I posted this in the discord, and it was recommended to me to put this in a spot people on talkhaus would be able to more easily find it, y'know, not everyone on talkhaus is on discordhaus. Therefore, more people are more likely benefit from it if I drop this here.
Today when I opened a video, I noticed that the thumbnails are now 1/3rd of my screen height. Youtube's been doing stuff like this increasingly where they're pushing the thumbnail as the most important and representative bit of a video link, animating them and such, but in more insidious ways like trying to kill the tags by literally saying they don't mean anything when you try to post a video. However, I personally am not ok with them shoving thumbnails in my face constantly, for various reasons, and now it's become a rather Large issue - Pardon the half-baked pun there - because now I can see a grand total of 3 sidebar videos at once whereas I used to be able to see maybe 9 or 10.
Well today, I decided to fix that. So I told uBlock Origin to nuke thumbnails. And now I bring it to you too since it may be of use to people who are sick of spoilers in their youtube feeds and such. No more "all bosses" video thumbnails for games released yesterday and such.
Just chuck all the ones you want to remove into your My Filters list in the uBlock dashboard, and you're good to go, no more unwanted thumbnails.
Have a good day everyone.
EDIT: Ok, so apparently it's not a universal constant. I assume Youtube is doing its general "we're testing, so it's being tested on random people first" thing. That being said, if anyone's wondering what this nonsense looks like, here you go.

Re: YouTube Stuff (mostly the management screwing up AMIRITE)
I don't think you understand. The old studio interface was over TWO YEARS OLD and the frontend team just doesn't want to deal with legacy code like that. The web dev zeitgeist has gone through 87 new frontend framework standards in that time, it's just impossible to even tell what was going on in the old way of doing things and the guy who originally wrote all that stuff has been reacquired 7 times by various startups since then. So it's for the best, now they can implement all of the great new things users have been wanting like AI blockchain machine learning.

as a web dev working with legacy Java webservers... who frequently sees comments from 2008...
the follow-up got age restricted, because YouTube is incredibly dense and cannot distinguish weeds from "weed"

Well then it sounds like you work at a company that didn't adopt the strategy popularized by Google where everyone is incentivized to reinvent things that already exist and were working fineBobisOnlyBob wrote: ↑4 years agoas a web dev working with legacy Java webservers... who frequently sees comments from 2008...

oh yeah it's definitely preferable to .js library hell every six months (ever hear about left-pad?) but there's gotta be a sane point somewhere in the middle between "haven't updated the DB spec since 2003" and "MOAR FRAMEWORKS"
