How do you Pronounce these?
I keep having a heated debate about this with my friends at school, but I wanna know how y'all pronounce it!
FIRSTLY: I say .gif as Jif
SECONDLY: I say Nutella as NOOtella
Feel free to debate as well

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
I pronounce them geef (kinda like give with an f) and nootella, but English is not my native language so I probably don't count in this discussion. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, so I was having an argument with my Girlfriend about this. But if Yoshi is pronounced Yo-she, shouldn't Yobi be pronounced Yo-bee and not Yob-e?
can't forget this guy

the commercials call it "NOO-tella", and corporations run the world.
Their word goes.

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
I pronounced GIF like JIF peanut butter for a few years, then I changed when someone tried to make a pun with the word "gift" and I couldn't get it.
Nut-tella is how I've always said the word, and heard it for that matter.

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
always heard "noo-tella" so i use that
"gif" feels natural but both "gif" and "jif" are proper so it doesn't bother me anyway. (though the faux-spanish "hhif" pronunciation is one i plan on using if anyone ever tries to start an argument about it in person)

never heard of "Yobi". what's it from?RegiGiygas wrote: But if Yoshi is pronounced Yo-she, shouldn't Yobi be pronounced Yo-bee and not Yob-e?

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
Yobi was an alternate Yoshi that was in a Romhack that raocow played at some point. There also was an instagram post we found together that talked about a Yoshi named Yobi. So yeah we got in an argument about how his name is pronouncedWhimsical Calamari wrote: ↑6 years ago always heard "noo-tella" so i use that

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
Obviously the G in GIF is a glottal trill.
I always said gee-eye-eff, as I think someone else said earlier. And noo-tella,though I've only heard a handful of people say it now I think about it...

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
"either" and "with
I prounounce neither both ways, as "n-eye-ther" and "n-ee-ther". It depends on how I feel
And I say with as "w-ith"

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
Gif rhymes with stiff for me. The other one I could see being either way since "nu" can be pronounced like "new". I wouldn't know since I don't have that stuff.
Now let's go have some mostaccioli (musk-uh-cho-lee). Actually, let's not. I'm not too big on that.

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
Super late to the game:
gif: hard g, not like the peanut butter.
Nutella: noo-TELLA, cause it's Italian, so Italian pronunciation rules.

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
I am also late
- I use both "gif" pronunciations pretty much interchangeably, and I'd bet a fair few people do the same
- I reduce the first vowel in "Nutella" to schwa-blivion, so [nəˈte̞lə] (basically "nihTELLih")
- different regions might have different more common pronunciations of "either" and "neither" but everywhere uses both; basically either is acceptable, and neither is wrong
- apparently the pronunciation of the <th> in "with" varies but a lot of places that have [θ] (<th> as in "thought") will switch it to [ð] (as in "this") when it's followed by a vowel; funnily enough, my accent doesn't do this (it's always [θ] as in "thought")
- relatedly, how do you say the <s> in "us"? 'cause I had a lecturer (from the north of England) who would say [ʊz] rhyming with "fuzz", rather than "fuss" as I do (vowel differences notwithstanding)
- relatedly relatedly, do you ever pronounce the letter <x> like [gz] in some words (e.g. "exam", "exhibit", as opposed to [ks] in "axe", "express")? 'cause I don't (always [ks] for me), but most references I see regarding the pronunciation of words like these and the letter <x> mention it, even for my accent
- this might be the most I've used my degree since leaving uni
- bullet points are fun

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
In my native language, words are pronounced the way they're written.
I would say nutella as nutella, but the l is long, and gif with a g.
However, if I had to say these in english, I'd say nootella and jif.

(wow I've been inactive here for a while)
I personally say "aluminium" when talking about chemistry, but habit has made it hard to not say "aluminum" when talking about stuff like aluminum foil

Re: How do you Pronounce these?
when I was younger, a good decade-plus ago, I would often watch mythbusters and wonder what this "illuminum" stuff was that they mentioned sometimes. it wasn't until a good few years later that I realised it was just the american form of "aluminium".
