I'll give them a look then! I myself would suggest anything with my favorite comic book villain "Carnage".

Re: Comic book discussion thread
I never really got into comics. I used to read some manga (I even have a couple Phoenix Wright graphic novels next to me. They're weird. Also I have a Japanese Naruto graphic novel I got at some point) but I never really followed anything super heavily. Especially not with the traditional super hero comics.
I'm not against them or anything, I just thought it was kinda a tricky thing to get into that involved a lot of effort and I never cared enough to try.

Re: Comic book discussion thread
Most super hero books now are at least numbered, so it's a little easier to follow certain storylines. If you really get attached to a certain character I always recommend buying the trades to learn more about them.Ashan wrote:I never really got into comics. Re: Comic book discussion thread
I think it's no surprise to anyone that I follow the Mega Man one pretty closely. They're getting ready to do a in-universe crossover with the Classic and X series in a couple of months after Dr. Wily totally proves he was innocent all along to set up the Mega Man 3 story arc that will happen sometime after.
Re: Comic book discussion thread
I've read some of the Zelda manga and most of the Pokemon Adventures series. Both are pretty awesome. They're about the only ones I'm interested in that get released over here in the UK. I have a couple of Sonic comics from a shop that sold US imports... I was never too fond of them.

Re: Comic book discussion thread
The OP specifies super hero comics in specific fellas, if Insane is fine with turning it into a general comics thread then very well but right now you guys are off topic.

I'm pretty sure the Mega Man comics are published by the Archie people, save for the Battle Network comics.

Just found out about a local comic book convention that's going on today, and I'm super tempted to go

Re: Comic book discussion thread
They are. I used to read the Sonic ones back in the 90s. They were pretty good from about Issues #20-50 or so. I know by the time the Dreamcast was beginning to become a thing, I was losing interest. I never really checked out much of Ian Flynn's work on the comic when he came in and basically saved the series after another author's creativity had completely stagnated. He and most of the artists do good work with the Mega Man stories.Ashan wrote:I'm pretty sure the Mega Man comics are published by the Archie people, save for the Battle Network comics.

Re: Comic book discussion thread
Would you guys say that a comic book and a graphic novel are two different things? I ask because I saw a definition once that suggested that some manga fall under the definition and others don't: the definition being comics are published on a monthly basis with a continuing story arc whereas graphic novels are stand alone and have a clear beginning and end.
I ask because I'm not sure if I fit anything that fits the criteria of this discussion, with the possible exception of a few Tintin books.

Re: Comic book discussion thread
See, this can be a bit faulty when a comic book arc is combined into a graphic novel.
The Long Halloween was a mystery Batman story arc that went for like ten issues, with people sending in "who dun it?" fanmail between each issue.
Once the arc was completed and a bit of time had passed, The Long Halloween was put out as a combined graphic novel so you could see the arc from beginning to end in one book.
Also, graphic novels don't always have a beginning and end. Batman Year One is a graphic novel but is continued into Batman Year Two.
Basically, comic book creators sometimes have free reign to do whatever the heck they want to do, definitions and expectations be damned.
I have rambled quite a bit here, but to be fair I don't quite understand your question as having an ultimate answer since it's phrased in a weird way.

This is an incredibly restrictive and bad definition imo. Yes, it fits for what a lot of comic books, especially super hero stuffs, do, but not for the medium as a whole.the definition being comics are published on a monthly basis with a continuing story arc
