yo I still aint watched the movies...

do they affect the canon at all? cus ill probably try to sit through them at some point(says the only dude on the haus who still hasnt watched Frozen)

EXTREMELY slightly does it affect the show. To spoil just a bit (don't worry, nothing that actually matters) Equestria Girls sets itself up as an alternate universe with the same characters having the same personalities and in similar situations. So in the first movie you see Applejack providing applecider for a party (her own make I felt, her own family's make), you see Celestia as the school principal, silly stuff like that, and these are just alternate universe copies.

So Twilight just goes to and fro between the universes and miraculously doesn't meet her own alter ego. Like... Flash Sentry gets introduced in Equestria Girls and then you see his pony form in the background in the cartoon, and that's literally all the impact the movie has on the show.

They are fun watches and you should still watch them, however.

My only problem is that they're bringing in a lead writer for the movie whose only credits are three animated movies that, from the looks of their reviews, are very mediocre and uninspired.

also who argues that EG isn't a spinoff? it falls in the definition even if it's in the exact same universe as the show

Nah, it's an original character. They've got a lot of story videos on their channel (in fact the one I posted before you is one) and they've got a whole tumblr chronicling their story and hijinks.

In the beginning it started out as just general humor with the character and lately it's been "let's get gay as all hell with Chrysalis" Can't say that I mind the direction its gone in~

Yes, you eat a chocolate each day, but is it in a shape of a pony I'm not sure. It's some christmas stuff in every other calendar.
