2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
It's actually only a bit after 8 as I type this but it's 2014 some places.
So, what's your resolution this year?
I'm personally hoping to make progress in learning Java which is something I've been putting off doing until recently.
What about you?

Re: 2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
At the risk of sounding like a nerd I'm almost tempted to make going on a date a resolution. Because everything else I want or need to do I'll end up doing at some point anyways.
Oh wait, I am a nerd. One who turned down going out with friends over a game of scrabble and a pint of cider this new years. Probably should do something about that this year as well.

Procrastinating less and not losing my motivation to do things nearly instantly. Lately I procrastinate even on things I want to do and when I do finally get around to doing them something immediately goes wrong 90% of the time completely killing all motivation I had to bother.

Mine is to simply be a better person, get angry less, be more open-minded, and to branch out and try new stuffs. So far, so good, I guess.

To get over my fear of uncertainty, go to my college's career center for assistance and apply for an internship later in the year, in the hopes to get something this summer which may translate into a job after college is done.

Re: 2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
This year I want to be more active both outside & at home. Make the most of what I have, instead of worrying about what I don't have.
Re: 2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
I'm mainly going for creating content more, since I pretty much slumped on that for the last year. Also would like to socialize more, get better at handling my social anxiety.

I'm planning on getting the nerve to actually drive, and considering how long ago it was since I last drove (practically forever) I'll need a refresher in Driver's Ed. So there's that.

Health-wise:
-Put 1000 miles on my exercise bike
-Get back to an eight-minute mile
Life:
-Stop worrying so much about things I can't control
There. That's good enough. I'm usually good at taking care of myself anyway.

Yes. This exact same thing happens to me all the freaking time. Also that's probably my resolution.Alice wrote:Procrastinating less and not losing my motivation to do things nearly instantly. Re: 2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
I'd probably be in your situation if my parents didn't help me out so much. I hated driving, and I still don't like it, but my mom basically signed me up for a test at the end of September last year which kinda forced me to practice if I didn't want to screw up royally for the test. If that helps you, you should try it.Joseph Staleknight wrote:I'm planning on getting the nerve to actually drive, and considering how long ago it was since I last drove (practically forever) I'll need a refresher in Driver's Ed. Get into FruityLoops and actually start getting shit done.
Hopefully enroll in the music department of my local university in the summer.
Generally learn more about the fields I want to specialize in, maybe even get an apprentice job as a writer/journalist somewhere.

Re: 2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
I never make New Year's Resolutions.
But if I did, it would be living more healthily, socialize more and finish my master - find a job.

That's the only kind of New Year's Resolution that actually gets stuck to! Plus that sounds like a sweet thing.Horikawa Otane wrote:Work with my academic heroes (this is a bit cheap since I basically know it'll happen)
Get on that shit man! And remember the golden rule: don't be yourself. At least not initially. But at the same time, don't outright lie, unless you know there's no possibility that it's a long-term thing. Lying by exclusion is what you want to aim for. Basically, don't do this.Diggertron wrote:At the risk of sounding like a nerd I'm almost tempted to make going on a date a resolution. As for me, my resolution is to make it another year without everything going to shit. The best of kind of resolution is one you have every incentive not to break.

There are a ton of things I want to do (learn foreign languages (and no I don't mean just japanese and nothing else), learn programming languages, ROMhack, learn to draw, learn to play the piano), but I'm either too lazy or too scared of failure to do so.
Sometimes I feel like smacking myself in the back of my head.

Re: 2014 New Year's Resolution Thread
I don't really make resolutions, to be honest. If I was going to though, it'd be to... procrastinate less, or something. I spend far too much time doing really pointless things.
