Ugh, I've been trying all day to try and get game recording programs to also record sound, with no luck. Tried Fraps, Bandicam.. Camtasia, tried every recording input option they gave me and no sound was ever recorded.

Does anyone on here use Windows XP with Fraps without sound issues? This is obviously a Windows XP thing, I just have no idea how to approach fixing things.

I'm on Windows XP SP3, M-Audio revolution sound card, I hear my audio through the coaxial port to my surround sound system. If there was an option to record an ouput I'd be set, it's the 'Wave' output on my M-Audio according to the volume settings.

I do some ridiculous setup where I'm recording since there is no Stereo Mix option that I know of on my version of XP. What I do is take an audio jack and plug it into both the microphone and headphone areas so you can record the game audio, and even then, I'd have to boost the sound in Camtasia at least a few times just to get it to be heard.

I'm sure someone out there will have a better option for you, but that's my setup. It's not really worth it.

I did that same thing when recording from my speakers on my old laptop.

And if you don't have a second headphone jack and you still want to hear the audio, you can use a splitter to plug the audio jack and your headphones both in at once. You might lose audio quality, though.
Or maybe there's a way to make audio come from the speakers even when you have something in the headphone jack. I don't know.

Wow you two did crazy setups, I figured it out though, seems Windows XP really doesn't like me using my soundcard for output when my motherboard sound is apparently the only thing with stereo mix... just made sure I was outputting with motherboard and suddenly Fraps behaves.

Seriously, PC recording is hella weird.
