koreaslop is such a funny term
by the way, I associate mmos with korea so much that I really thought blizzard was korean back when they weren't more known for bad working conditions than for their games
korea had a big hand on mmo history, yeah. kingdom of the winds (nexus tk if you're nasty) is one of the earliest graphical muds period alongside america's meridian 59, but i think it's a similar scenario to china where pc gaming was mostly viable there until it went full on online or bust as it did everywhere pc gaming was a thing and thus pc gaming was just Really Down Bad until steam and indie games became a thing.
japan is one of the big outliers where they go aggressive on consoles and pc was especially niche after the j-pcs died off, beyond erogeslop and online stuff i mean. falcom was basically in the pits until they pivoted to psp, and even now they're console first with pc ports being secondary. steam being a good gateway for exporting doujin games like recettear and the rest of the world being hungry for japanese-style and console-style experiences on pc as well really helped.
though i will say tackling steam's bad interface for japanese users (purchasing AND navigating) was a big challenge, from what i heard.
i really should get around to checking out that leaked starcraft ghost build
