there was another where the cover was heavily referencing sonic adventure, it's great. this is apparently heavily banking on pretending to be related to flying superboard, a korean. anime i guess would be the word? i mostly am aware of it because it has a strategy rpg on windows that looks alright

also i found a fem!kr-bubsy (hurling blood bc trauma response from the trans bubsy crowd)

I don't think about RPGs much but last night I dreamt about one where you can just side with one faction and go on a standard-length quest, but in order to get the best ending you have to near the end with one faction, suddenly burn your bridges and start over with a new one, and keep doing that until you can persuade them all to unite against the enemy. It was a pretty divisive idea.

i think if you were to compare my earliest posts where i constantly typed out shitty unicode hearts and shit but also used like the r word, to my later posts where im trying super hard to be "white feminist" as hell, to my later later posts where im a basket case, to now where im just a walking radius of pvp being active and im the opponent, you'd probably think im five hobgoblins with daddy issues in a trenchcoat or something

No punchline.

im getting really into mmo music (especially korean mmos bc of y2k brainworms, anime-styled stuff is good for autism) and seeing like 3 minutes of elancia activated my denpa so hard. look at that win9x-ass dithering lord

before wasting time vpn'ing my way into a mostly abandoned (management-wise, players are still doing okay) mmo with no real questline because its biggest influence was ultima online (like mabinogi but older and with less support over the years), i instead decided to add some screenshots of it to my pixel art reference folder for later. i'll keep adding screenshots of it and longplays of arc the lad 1&2 and such, as well as reference shots of non-pixel art stuff for gamedev purposes (pre-rendered stuff etc)

i'm also working on my bara reference folders a bit. i Think i got an idea for how i want to organize poses and whatnot. may get some pics of women here too for non-bara art (yuri etc), just not include them in the main non-reference folders. also need to get good pics of clothing and such for concepting, critter design "moodboards" (folders really), and such.

i'm thinking to practice pixel art i may make test maps and levels using Tiled possibly. player and non-player characters tend to be closer to more traditional forms of art, especially with larger fighting game-style sprites, so they don't really need a setting to fit together.

:sandwich: so i had to reinstall my personal windows yesterday. had to do a clean reinstall because Microsoft doesn't actually allow me to do a Repair Install from removable media (it tries to boot into the target system on a repair install and "boot into the target system" was what I needed to fix!). in any case now i have to reinstall all my programs and reload a backup of all my stuff (I'm really glad I was able to copy the contents of %USERPROFILE% to my backup space after I broke everything, thank you Linux)

That's a title, I think long silly titles can be funny when there's a point to them, a certain type of "over-specificness" (that's not a real word, I know), but this is clearly just kinda padding it to make it sound long, there's nothing weird or specific about this, it's just vaguely describing what could be pretty much any game. While not necessarily the best example, Yeah! You Want "Those Games," Right? So Here You Go! Now, Let's See You Clear Them! is a better title, even if the context might be a little bit niche (basically, a lot of "those games" are based on ads for mobile slop that often doesn't even exist, with people playing these fake games badly on purpose to get the indignated viewer to click and download what ends up being completely unrelated nonsense that's festered with malware adsense, so here's a game that has "those games" and now you're expected to clear them). There's also a The RPG With Too Many Spoilers: The Final Enemy's True Identity is the Hero's Father (it's not the official title, since it's a Japan-only game), which works in a different way and kinda sells what the game is all about.

This is not a rag on the game, it's probably fun, but the title is not really working. That's a minor gripe I have.

i love yapping about video games, and also when others do the same

This is a really good video, honestly, I think overly long essays can be hit or miss, sometimes they are absurdly lengthy and that puts me off (I can watch them in chunks and there is a sense of progression and conclusion to get through them that is weird when coming from a YouTube video, but this is just because it's basically like watching a long running series or something). Anyway, I prefer when they're in a more digestible format of being at most 2 hours or something along those lines, it's still long, it feels colossal, but I can actually watch the video on the same day if I want to.

I realize that has almost nothing to do with the video I linked really, but I just said it because there are some stuff like 17 hour videos on YouTube nowadays, possibly even longer, and even I have my limits, so I'm really appreciating when something can have a lot of information without feeling bloated.

speaking of yapping, beware, I'm talking about old games and the context in which they were made for a few paragraphs
When it comes to old games, I love when videos (although it can just be articles like in HG101, random blog posts or just comments somewhere else from another enthuasiast, even if that isn't at all as lengthy and these YT videos) talk about games not only through the lens of nostalgia, but also go around the context of the era, how you can appreciate a game even if approach it in a different way, etc. It's especially important when it comes to old games from the 80s, because a lot of them really need an extra push of context for you to get as excited about them. Sure, I've played a bunch of old niche games on famiclones and later emulators, but even if that made me more susceptible to enjoying them, it didn't give me the context of the original era in which they were released, it's not necessarily the same experience and rarely the same perception. The context can sometimes be eye-opening, you really see the whole game in a completely different manner.

A lot of stuff that people will often brush off as unfair, cryptic or dated design surely feels different when you put yourself on the lens of that era. There are so many conventions that didn't exist yet, and coming back to them while tough in some cases, can also feel extremely fresh and provide a borderline unique experience. And that can be extremely engaging, from having or making a physical map, to sharing hints and strategies with other people, there are many things that while not common today at all, can still be done with a way or another (although the hint and strategy thing just boils down to checking walkthroughs, but that can still feel surprisingly communal depending on who made it, it may have the same or a similar charm as reading guide or magazine back then). And due to the duality of these older games feeling longer on the first playthrough, the replayability aspect increases exponentially. First, you discover the game, you get surprised, possibly (and likely) frustrated at many moments, but once you're done, you're ready for a new experience of honing your skills and trying to play more effectively, faster, with less deaths and so on. There's a lot of charm to that, which is a characteristic of its time, and is barely even done in games now outside of speedrunning communities.

This is why I enjoy a lot of games like Metroid, Simon's Quest, Challenger (an obscure Hudson game from 1985), SMB2 The Lost Levels, Holy Diver (not so obscure hellish platformer by Irem) and many others, I fully understand that they aren't easily approachable and I don't expect nor want games to be like this nowadays at all, I just really enjoy them and can appreciate them.
