I completely adored Reiko's anime debut episode, she is excruciatingly powerful. Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss (she is a cop, she would gaslight)

Though I completely forgot that Officer Higurashi's episode had them mention that the latest hot topic J-pop girl was Namie Amuro (the episode is from 1996), who is a singer I really like now, but when I was like 10 my knowledge of Japanese musicians was nil. I did remember the Kylie Minogue mention, but that's only because I live in Portugal and my family members were there for the 80s which Kylie blossomed the most in, shout out to Love at First Sight back in the early 2000s for being a fucking bop.

Anyway um, the bridge episode where most of it is just Ryotsu just talking about his childhood friend and how he and his childhood besties went to force a bridge near Ginza to open before the dude had to move to Hokkaido due to his chronic illnesses (he was a huge bascule bridge otaku), both to make his dream of seeing it open come true and also so they have a good memory so he doesn't forget them was super sweet.

This show has incredible early Simpsons energy due to that juxtaposition of comedy and tenderness, and I think it helps that Ryotsu's just incredibly Homer coded, he's a huge dick though, but he's actually as nice as Homer when he tries. Family Guy could never

still wish i could sub the Japanese version so people could watch it beyond the unintentional gay fanservice and the male giant episode (also accidental gay fanservice), which yeah no that's based i just really like this show a lot despite it being copaganda at the end of the day

Earlier I watched the first 12 eps of Super Milk Chan's 1998 season. Total is 14, each is roughly 4 minutes long. Cute ass show, but I wouldn't recommend it to a lot of people on here since it's pretty fucking edgy. It's kind of iyashi-kei to me with how chill it is, even if bad things constantly happen.

I also feel like the cursed sword in Ep6 that makes people want to kill MAY have been a slight JoJo Part 3 reference, but I don't know how common that trope is. I know Digimon Tamers did that with Guilmon and Beelzemon's bike, and Juri compared it to a fairy tale she read once, but...

Read the first volume of Dragon Ball (og), i.e. the first 11 chapters. I think this took less time than when I binged the Portuguese dub of everything up to the big climax where Goku turns into an Oozaru. Baby Goku is the cutest damn thing. I want to protect him (he does not need protecting, he would actually be better off without me getting in his way).

Ox King and Roshi my beloveds (some of Oolong's forms were great too but he was a kid in this, also shout out to the beastman bandit that wanted to eat the sea turtle).

Lastly, reread the first six chapters of Marriagetoxin (shout outs to Johnny Birdface on Discordhaus for recommending me this). I still love the partly comedic partly serious vibes of the manga, though the fight scenes are kinda hard to follow, I feel? Regardless its pretty great, and the expressions and joke timing are top notch.

Super Milk Chan

I don't remember hearing the name before, but this does look familiar. I might have seen this in a magazine or a screenshot ages ago, and I really like the style. Kinda looks like a Cartoon Network thing but also has a bit of a Dreamcast game aesthetic, which I like, now I'm curious to check it out.

Yeah Hideyuki Tanaka has a gorgeous artstyle. He's done some work for Meldac's games as well as the Bust A Groove series (a series I love from a distance, I still have to play them asap). Here's more info on him.

Really the one critique I could place on him is that he's messed with NFTs at one point, which seems to be an issue with a lot of Japanese artists (cultural differences, sadly, they don't have the same sort of commission work as we do, closest thing is the Skeb site).

okay i didn't read this but. i found out about usagi drop and. as someone who finds comfort by meditating on innocent father/son scenarios due to a rough childhood i feel like me reading the manga original all the way to the end would actually be self-harm. so glad i was warned ahead of time through youtube related videos

correction this was satoshi okano, who did work on meldac's games like astro go go and. a few sega stuff like sonic jam and such. the rest is correct abt tanaka-san

okano-san's artwork is much more wild, much more "rubbery" in anatomy, i recommend looking up his work too, he's been posting some old art on twitter recently, his @ is okanotion.

here's an article on okano and his contributions to sonic's modern aesthetic, which uekawa later worked on to give it his own spin (i still detest most modern 3d sonic renders).
