I had to purchase the new Super Meat Boy physical release just for this incredible boxart
Image
We need more overly-badass 80's action hero boxart that's not at all representative of the game

I'd pay like $30 each for physical releases of Mega Man 9 and 10 with the bad boxart

Maybe I should have replied in the hardware thread instead of taking over this one
tbh I think the nine squares would move around too much and having a solid base really is optimal, but it's an interesting idea and I wouldn't be surprised if people have portable setups like this. modular dance mats could make us some money if it worked :P

and i'm probably just gonna post stuff like this here from now on anyway since I like that we have a longer form version of 'here's what we're doing right now' and the twitter thread is pretty dead recently anyway so might as well revive it a bit

The Mega Man ones were actually used in press kits for the releases of the respective games. It was put on a NES-looking box, and inside had an NES cartridge that opened up to reveal a little disk with all the press info

But good luck getting one cause they sell for hundreds or even upwards of $1000

freakin putting a usb port on this ddr pad is driving me crazy. the usb breakouts i've tried have been finicky as hell and only work on some pcs and not others. hopefully the ones i've got coming tommorow fix it and it'll be nicely self enclosed. tbh on the next one instead of embedding the teensy in the pad i'm just going to expose the connections to a d-sub cable or something and have a separate box like I said.

in a separate story, here are our thrift store finds today. sorry the pictures are garbage because the light in here is bad and i broke the glass covers on my phone's camera

first of all is actually a Chow Yun-fat moved called "wild search" which really excited me when i saw it in a box of 5 for £1 dvds outside the store, it's the first hong kong movie we've found and it made us dig deeper into the dvds. normally i try not to buy dvds because tbh i would never watch them when there's (mch) better blu ray versions of nearly everything but it's fun to own some special ones if we just find them.

digging deeper inside the store we also got one (bad) jackie chan movie, shanghai noon. this is our first jackie chan movie so it's pretty exciting too

then it started getting weirder since we started finding weird low budget movies and movie compilations, for example here's "Talons of the eagle" starring "Billy Blanks", which frankly looks amazing, look at these guys

then we have "The Exterminator" which is actually a James Glickenhaus movie. apart from looking and sounding so bad it's good, we bought this one because I thought I recognised the name James Glickenhaus, and I did from the movie "The Protector" (all his first 4 movies were named this way) which is a Jackie Chan movie. famously Jackie and Glickenhaus disagreed with the production on this unrelated movie which resulted in a separate 1h20 Glickenhaus cut and a 1h40 Jackie Chan cut, and also Jackie went on to make police story supposedly because of this movie (it came out at the end of the same year iirc). interesting but unrelated. speaking of The Exterminator i've watched about a minute of this movie and it starts out with tons of explosions and helicopter gunfights and then

a guy getting brutally beheaded, like his head fully falls backwards of his neck

about 30 seconds in. it sounds pretty infamous and I'll probably find a better copy and actually watch it at some point.

and finally we bought *11* of these weird low budget movie collections, three martial arts specific ones and a number of other interesting sounding ones. I singled this one out since contains "Spider-Man Once upon a time the superheroes" which sounds like an amazing knock-off spider-man movie featuring all the different marvel heroes, but it actually seems to be some sort of marvel documentary which is a shame. here's the rest of the ones we got:

Image

there's a lot of interesting sounding ones. sadly the chinese ones mostly seem to be english dubs only with no alternate audio tracks. there's some interesting ones in there like a non-arnie movie just called Conan, something called "Street Crime", and a the martial arts ones contain a lot of jackie chan knockoffs and unofficial sequels. the picture of this one is horrible quality but if anyone really wanted more information about any of these I could take better ones.

The only thing I've collected lately is Pokemon cards. I'd love it if the flea market around here was worth going to more than once every couple of months but sadly it isn't.

Though next weekend (not this weekend) there's supposed to be a huge yard sale crawl going up a highway and last time I went it was great even if I didn't actually buy very much so I'm looking forward to it this year assuming it's not packed and the world doesn't fall apart again like it wants to

Though even in 2019 it was still pretty easy to move around cause there were tons of vendors and everyone was spread out over a couple miles of road so I'm not sweatin' it
I'm on Youtube andTwitter and Discord so say hi to me on there cause I don't really post here also I have sigs off so I can make my sig as ugly as I want and it won't bother me this is my sig btw

Did that GBA mod I mentioned with a buddy last night. Pretty happy with how it turned out!

There's also a speaker mod in there that you obviously can't see (amp + replacement speaker)

The only things that bug me are
  • There's a very thin line of blur at the top of the screen you can see. I think we slightly misplaced the adhesive, so you can see it slightly and it looks like a glitchy mess at the top
  • I bought the wrong replacement lens. I wanted the one with the original GBA logo but I guess I added the wrong thing to my cart

I popped the lens out and did my best to rip the line of adhesive out, making a smudgy mess on the LCD in the process (didn't know how to clean it without smudging).

Popped the new lens on which I like a lot more, but then I noticed a god damn piece of dust on the lens that I didn't see until it was on so now I have that to bug me. Thankfully the smudging isn't noticeable while playing at least.
Image
Regardless, it's still not near as bad as the line before. I might still buy a new screen at some point, which I was surprised to see only makes up like $15 of the (I think) $70 screen replacement kit. Apparently the specialized ribbon cable is most of the cost there. But both the site I ordered from and the manufacturer of the screen didn't have any standalone screens in stock. So I'm stuck with this for now.

I used to do that a lot before COVID was a thing. Honestly, it felt good over the summer to do that, but then I got sick again with something that wasn't that for over a month. Oops. Maybe I'll go out for a cool, evening walk one of these nights.

really cute pic[nic table]! there are gorgeous black squirrels that frolic in my front yard here. So glad I moved my home office to the north end of the house so I can see these lil buggers on a daily basis.

i would love nothing more than to go outside more but i do unfortunately live in western washington during cold-rainy season. even got an unusual tornado warning in... a place that doesn't normally get those. ever .
i do not retain heat very well
so i am relegated to standing on my porch and hoping the rain lets up long enough for me to even consider going on a walk

I love walking, but it's been a while since I've felt good enough to do it. Finally healing up from a minor foot ailment that prevented me from doing my jogging, and now we're getting into the sub-freezing temperature lows part of fall now, not to mention all the leaves and stuff on the sidewalks and streets, so my enthusiasm for doing any running is pretty low.

I love CRONCH of walking through dry leaves and the heavy floppiness of moist ones.
I like to have starring contests with squirrels when I'm out walking.
Black squirrels are really neat. They're not actually their own species, just a melanistic variety of gray squirrel. What's really interesting is their distribution. In their natural range, percentage of the gray squirrel population being black seems to rely on two factors; the closer you are to the great lakes, and the more urban the area, the more black squirrels. They've been introduced into other areas, usually having escaped from travelling shows, but the population doesn't seem to extend out of cities.
There's been a lot of speculation into the benefits of the black fur, one being that it keeps them warmer in the winter.

Hey, uh....
I don't really know how to say this. I'm not even sure I should be saying this right now.

But my grandfather is in the hospital right now with COVID. And it's not looking too good. And I just.... I don't know what to do right now.

Pray for him, please.
Pray for both of us.
