Re: talkhaus sites - project hosting & personal pages
trying to install some stuff so i can put my spreadsheets on talkhaus and also visible online because google docs deletes that shit if you're inactive now, mostly to work with a javascript package on npm, handsontable. i would have used another open source one i found first on git, but i can't find a read only option for that one.

i can't sleep so i added a recent posts thing to my homepage since the new stuff is mostly just hidden in existing categories
btw the source code for my site is here https://github.com/catchouli/rena.talkhaus.com (it uses the static site generator jekyll so i dont have to manually maintain all the html)
there's also https://github.com/catchouli/index.talkhaus.com for the site index, technically people could probably add new features if they wanted and i'd probably accept a pull request if it was sensible

Re: talkhaus pages - project hosting & personal pages
TalkhausCities is growing larger every day.
I added two new things to my website over the weekend. The first is a raocow quotes page. If anyone has any good raocow quotes, PM me and I'll add it to the list and give you credit!
The second is a pseudo-webring. It's not a real webring because the "previous" and "next" links are actually randomized. Originally I wanted to write a script that scrapes the site index for all the information, but I don't think that's secure. So I erred on the side of caution and hard-coded all of the subdomains. I made this thingy as a way to derust from not using JavaScript in a while. Maybe one day I'll work my way up to making browser games like some of you.

Re: talkhaus pages - project hosting & personal pages
Mirrored my RPG list on my site, will do the same for my games beat archive (only my games sorry). Impetus was Google announcing they'd take down everything in your Google Photos or Google Docs or Google Drive if you don't log in in one of them for over 2 months. Not surprised, corporations hate consumers, but still disappointed.

Re: talkhaus sites - project hosting & personal pages
is there appetite for a talkhaus wiki? I know @RixiTheChao wanted one for ASMT stuff so maybe it could just be that too if there's no point to having a talkhaus one at this point. It all depends on there being people to maintain it tbh
I have a backup of the old wiki but it's very out of date at this point so I wouldn't bother restoring it, I could put it up read-only if anyone wants to copy relevant information out of it.

I remember the old talkhaus wiki pages invaded by spambots a few years ago when it was last online

Re: talkhaus sites - project hosting & personal pages
Yeah, we've been reworking the old ASMBXT dev wiki to an encyclopedic wiki for the series. It's still pretty incomplete, but I keep coming back to update it every once in a while.
https://asmbxt.fandom.com/wiki/Demo
https://asmbxt.fandom.com/wiki/Cat_Planet_Cat
https://asmbxt.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Character
I don't see myself contributing to a revived talkhaus wiki but I'm still down for it being brought back even if only for the sake of archiving any documented community history that survived the spambots. Preferably it could be given its own subdomain and we could also set up a separate ASMT wiki that I could then port the character pages and stuff over to, but I imagine setting up and hosting two different wikis on the server is far from a simple undertaking.
If it comes down to having just one or the other and there isn't much interest in the updating and maintaining the talkhaus wiki, I guess my vote depends on how easily the intact content on it could be ported to an HTML archive; if that's at all feasible, then let's do that and repurpose the wiki to the ASMT one. If it's too much trouble or enough people want to actively keep the talkhaus wiki alive, I'd say just bring it back and we can keep the ASMT stuff on the Wikia site. Having it stuck with Fandom isn't ideal, but upgrading it shouldn't come at the expense of preservation, your emotional wellbeing/all of your free time, or the community's overall preference.

tbh the reason I didn't restore the old wiki directly was because it was mostly written by/about non fondly remembered usersRixithechao wrote: ↑2 years ago Yeah, we've been reworking the old ASMBXT dev wiki to an encyclopedic wiki for the series. and tbh I was thinking there'd just be one wiki instance with categories or w.e options mediawiki offers for talkhaus and related projects, but if you don't want that you can work with me to get a hosted wiki for just that. tho there's no point having a general talkhaus wiki unless people are going to use it

Re: talkhaus sites - project hosting & personal pages
Ahhh, I thought it mostly covered stuff like, idk, the zanyhost situation I guess?
A place dedicated to documenting raocow's work, the community collabs and contests, in-jokes, crossover lore, etc would be pretty nice and it's something I'd be more likely to contribute to. Right now the ASMT wiki kinda touches upon those things, but mostly in the sense of like
So yeah, if there's enough support for a general raocow/raofanon wiki then let's just do that. We can always figure out something else for the ASMT wiki.

Re: talkhaus sites - project hosting & personal pages
cool probably worth doing then :) I'd be up for writing some articles too when we have time. we can also just port over the relevant parts of the old wiki and spruce it up a bit, not like it really costs anything to have itRixithechao wrote: ↑2 years ago Ahhh, I thought it mostly covered stuff like, idk, the zanyhost situation I guess?

Re: talkhaus sites - new wiki and search engine!
see the announcement for an update:
https://wiki.talkhaus.com/wiki/Category:Easter_Eggs
(if you want to know about any other weird technical details let me know and I'll see what I can do)
the search will hopefully make the stuff you put on talkhaus sites more visible. at some point I'll try and integrate wiki page and talkhaus sites changes into the talkhaus somewhere too but I'm not sure exactly where yet. if you really don't want to show up on there you can use robots.txt!
I actually wrote the search from scratch and maybe i'll write about how that works on the wiki at some point. it's still a bit wip but it seems to work good enough to play with.
have fun! and I hope people like this because it was a bit of work to set up ;), thanks to Rixithechao for help with some of the mediawiki stuff and setting up some of the pages and templates!
i'm looking for wiki editors who want to write pages about talkhaus history, projects, contests etc. I made a start by migrating some content from the old wiki and writing some new pages about the random features i've added to talkhaus over the years:talkhaus sites has two new features: a new talkhaus wiki open for editing by all talkhaus users, and roogle, a search engine for talkhaus sites that supports showing recently updated and random pages as well as search results! check it out now, or don't i'm not a cop!

this is great but i wish there were four radio button settings
1. everything
2. non-wiki talkhaus sites only
3. wiki and files only
4. wiki (no files) only

ah good idea, the wiki is already downranked so it appears below every other site for now iirc but that's a better solution
