Freedom Planet's run with Milla is done. Now Three Houses is sitting in the Switch again. Will this be the time I finally play it, or will I go for the new BoxBoy or Shovel Knight: King of Cards instead?

Considering I just finished King of Cards last night...I'd say maybe try it? I have mixed feelings. I think of the four SK campaigns, it's the worst, but it's also still a really good game, and definitely does a lot of cool and fun twists. The story is very interesting, if only on a philosophical level (it's rather dark...call it a black comedy, maybe?).

Also, I was unable to get

the last heirloom

because I don't drink and thus forgot some detail. Lameness.

I've made some pretty alright progress with Final Fantasy IX. I'm surprised how much I had forgotten and there's a lot of charm with some of areas getting to Gargan Roo. The battles have been fine too, as I don't think I've had too much relative ease or difficulty fighting certain enemies and bosses. I'll be sure to get back to it sometime, but I'll be taking a short break from it.

A friend of mine had started playing FFXIV, which in turn spurred something within me to return to the game. It's been fun playing with them and finding a new groups of folks to play with. I had to move over to the Faerie server, which granted I'm aware that you can visit other worlds with plenty of things to still access and do, but I wanted to make it a more permanent home world. But yeah, that's been fun and I might possibly find myself playing this into next month. Along with playing that though, I've gotten some things to work on a certain console I have and now I'm playing some GameCube games. Mainly, MGS - The Twin Snakes and Pokemon Colosseum. I feel like in the near future I may end up streaming either one of these games.

Started another play through of Ys VIII. It's a lot better now that the pc port is no longer complete trash.

That was a fun one. Dragged in a couple of spots, but it was mostly fun. Still miss the old Felghana and Origin style of gameplay though, but this one's good in its own way.

And I picked Three Houses. Golden Deer, all the way... except for the few I want to recruit from the Blue Lions group.

The Flying type gym ended up being a Ghost type gym.
It went pretty smoothly.
Winona had a Bannete which had a very powerful Shadow Ball.
I beat with a Dragonbreath from Jegudiel who only had 6 HP left.

The Psychic type gym actually was a Psychic type gym.
I caught a Shedinja along the way, so there was only so much difficulty they could give me.
Tate and Liza's Medichamp happened to have a move that could actually hurt Shedinja, and from there things started falling apart.
By a bit of luck I beat the Medichamp, and then I was left with Jegudiel fighting a Girafarig.

The Water-type gym ended up being a Poison-type gym.
Jaun had things like Venusaur, and Golbat.
Of course, having things like Drill Peck and Eruption made very short work of his team.
The only attack he got in was Toxic, simply because his Weepinbell was lucky.

Now, on to the Elite Four...
Sidney was Ice type focused. He was pretty easy with Jegudiel, my Charizard.
Phoebe was Poison-type focused, so she was an actually difficult version of Jaun. Her Nidorina especially, since it had a bunch of type coverage.
Glacia was Dragon-type focused. She had an absolute tank of a Kingdra, and her Altaria prevented me from abusing Grigori's Wonder Guard.
Drake was Normal-type focused. He had a Tauros that was both tanky and hit like a truck with Egg Bomb. His Porygon2 had Softboiled so it stuck around for far too long. It could have been worse, though. He had a Blissey, imagine that with Softboiled...

Champion Wallace was Dark-type focused.
He had four Shiftrys. His Umreon only ever used Curse, so that wasn't a problem.
Two of his Shiftrys tried using Solarbeam, but I was able to take them both out in two hits.
He also had a Cacturne that I'm not sure how it contributed.
I didn't expect to beat the Champion without any Pokemon fainting.
Maybe I'll rechallenge the Elite Four again someday.

So my final team was:
God, the Lv46 Ludicolo with Surf, Body Slam, Rock Smash, and Moonlight

Azazael, the Lv46 Yanma with Waterfall, Luster Purge, Cut, and Drill Peck

Jegudiel, the Lv48 Charizard with Fire Blast, Eruption, Strength, and Fly

Cassiel, the Lv48 Electabuzz with Rollout, Dive, Thunderbolt, and Thunder

Ariel, the Lv54 Dragonair with Flash, Dragonbreath, Dragon Dance, and Dragon Claw

Grigori, the Lv46 Shedinja with Shadow Ball, Signal Beam, Horn Drill, and Earthquake
Something goes here sometime.

I had got Pokemon: Let's GO! Eevee for christmas, and I've been slowly playing through it (mostly due to school). Playing through Gen 1 is such a weird experience, even if this version is updated to have Darl, Steel, and Fairy types. It's also preeeeeetty fun to play through with an extremely OP Eevee.
I just got to Fuschia city, now meaning that I'm able to use the GO park, and make my Pokemon GO account even more buff! Thanks Meltan!

So I'm thinking of playing short games on weekends, long games during the week. First game I'm doing this with is Scanner Sombre, which I finished in one evening.

Scanner Sombre is an interesting concept of a game. Introversion made this in 2016-17. It's a very short first-person adventure which requires you to use a LIDAR scanner to actually see anything and everything (thus the Scanner). It's kind of like real spelunking, but made more...mysterious? Dark? Sombre? I don't know. I am glad it's short though, because it feels like if it went on for too long, the main mechanic would wear out its welcome extremely quickly.

I think I'll start Shenmue soon. Maybe even today. Will try to prioritize finishing the Dragon Quest demo at least.

Got to Ramia Village in Ys II. I like it about as much as Ys I (which is to say a lot) other than the fact that the dungeons are much more mazelike in Ys 2. These two games sure are short though, I can't believe I'm nearing the end already. Buuut I still have to go through the Shrine of Solomon so we'll see how long that takes me

I beat Super Robot Wars Original Generation a few days ago so then I went ahead and started OG2. It's really pretty but the audio downgrade is so disappointing. Like, the music sounds kind of tinny and low quality, versus OG1 where the music is really crisp and awesome. That's not to say OG2's music is bad of course, but it could be better. I haven't touched any of the other GBA SRW games (because almost none of them are translated) so Idk if the music in those ones leans more toward OG1 or 2.

started digimon cyber sleuth (on the switch)

never played a digimon game before/only vaguely familiar with the series but so far this is pretty cool. it doesn't rlly feel like a pokemon ripoff or anything the despite the one obvious similarity. story so far seems pretty neat. i have technically two of these games so it's good i'm actually enjoying playing it lol
i've honestly never played a video game in my life

Finished Castle of Illusion on Normal, had a really pleasant time. It does take a bit of a turn towards the obnoxious at the very last stages, unfortunately. Otherwise, very straightforward and charming. The music is lovely too.

Up to October in Three Houses now. Finally starting to recruit some people from the other classes and did my first Paralogue, so that's nice. Characters are the usual near one-track mind selves, but at least they're written pretty well. The gameplay's pretty good, too, with the whole Battalion gimmick. Trying to get a couple characters some skill level increases so they can class change to something better than what they are now. Honestly, the only thing that's been confusing for me is that characters don't cap at Level 20 anymore. Instead, that experience is universal between every job, and that they've gone with a job points system instead. Makes it easier to keep them around in battle!

I've been playing Shadow of Mordor.
I never knew it had Arkham style combat.

The Nemesis system is pretty cool.
It really shined when I was fighting one of the Warchief Zathra's supporters, who was called Felgrat the Cook. This was a guy I just never could beat until now, and at this point he'd suffered severe burns and wanted revenge.

Going through the DQXI demo. I liked they took a standard-fare RPG story and gave it a hard twist right at the start:

"Oh you're the hero of legend? Well fuck you buddy, you're problematic. Throw this asshole into the dungeon and burn his hometown down"

Sorry for double post. But I just went through my second weekend game, called Gris. It's this platformer that got a lot of hype last year for being super artsy and aesthetic. It's an all right platformer, very unchallenging. It's definitely meant to convey a story about grief and depression. It reminds me in certain ways of Severed, Juicebox's game in between the two Guacamelee, but with a greater emphasis on melodrama.

Still, it's short. Like, 3-5 hours? A nice weekend jaunt if you have Game Pass.

Back in late August I started playing Nioh but never ended up getting very far before kinda forgetting about it. I kinda felt bad cause it's probably the type of game I could get into but I guess I got sidetracked with other stuff. So the other night I booted it back up and started an entirely new save file. Within a few hours I've already gotten close to where I stopped last time, and I even did an extra optional mission that I guess I skipped last time. Things seem to be going much smoother this time. I also have figured out a few mechanics that I think I just didn't know about or forgot last time, namely finishing enemies by pressing Y when they're staggered, and a couple of skill tree systems that are way out of the way in the menus and I never noticed last time.

Also at the beginning of the game it asked me what weapons I'd be using and I think I said swords and spears as a secondary weapon but I've been going through most of the game with a battle axe cause that's what I found and it's got better damage output than anything else I've found so far. Not sure if I put myself at a disadvantage or what those choices in the intro even meant but uhhh here I am, being a supposed sword specialist running around with an axe.

So I'm finally past the point where I left off in Nioh last time (after beating a boss I never got past before) and between missions I decided to make a pit stop in the level select menus where apparently all the action takes place with money. As far as I can tell the only use for money at this point is at the blacksmith who has about 73000 different menus, none of which make any sense. This game just way too many stats and numbers and mechanics and leveling systems and equipment considerations and status effects and consumable items and movement customizations and yadda yadda yadda
Also menus are clunky as hell, I can never tell what information means what

I just want to play the game, not sit around in menus all day trying to find what I can disassemble to get a certain type of ingot so I can improve another weapon I just bought only to find it's not even as strong as the weapon I already had before that for some reason, probably because of some specific scaling stat that isn't clear. Like, I've been using this axe I found in the first level for the whole game because it's better than anything else I've found, and then the blacksmith was selling an axe that said it had a higher damage number. After buying it and upgrading it, I get into a level and it says that it does less damage than the last one I had now. I just cannot for the life of me figure out this game.

I finished the DQXI demo. For a demo, it's a full-size game. That alone is incredible. And to think that, story-wise, you're probably not even a fifth of the way through the game...that's amazing.

I also like how they shaped the Hero to be this...divisive figure in the grand scheme of things. Granted, the reasoning is kind of stupid/reminds me way too much of people too deep into

social justice

. But to give this sort of thing where not only is the Hero not universally welcomed, but feared/reviled among certain people who are supposed to be his allies for somewhat legitimate reasons is actually quite interesting a take as far as fantasy stories go.

That said, not going to play the full game for a long time, probably. I want to finish OTHER Dragon Quest games first. Including VII.

Shenmue I & II are next. I started playing briefly last weekend...boy was the jank real |:

Update on this: what I thought was a weapon upgrade menu was actually a weapon crafting menu. As in, making a weapon from scratch. I did not upgrade my existing axe, I made another one.

Still on Three Houses while I take a short break from recording the Mega Mangos. Been slowing down on progress since there are so many paralogues (side missions) to do, and you can do two a week at the point I'm at. Only have one of those left at the moment, but it'll have to wait until the next month since I'm on December's main mission now.

I think I'm more into the swing of Nioh at this point, though I still dread the crapload of inventory management between every mission. I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that I will never really be optimizing my build, and using this as an exercise to just feel my way towards doing the best I can and not worrying about the fact that I might have just sold something that I could have used in some weapon ascension that would have been more beneficial. There's just way too many factors to bother trying to figure out all this number crunching.
