rusted moss was easily one of my fave demos from the entire next fest, so

it is not momodora-like at all, fwiw

two other demos i feel like highlighting:

Chants of Sennaar - language-deciphering puzzle game i absolutely frick with, doesn't completely leave you out to dry but doesn't feel too handhold-y either and there's already some pretty cool moments in just the demo

Gestalt: Steam & Cinder - probably the best standard metroidvania (ie not rusted moss) i played this next fest just on the basis of everything being rock solid. good movement, good combat, good exploration, great visuals, i just dug it all-around
i've honestly never played a video game in my life

Metroid Prime Remastered just dropped on us out of nowhere. Guess I'll play that again while waiting on Cosmic Shake to get patched.

I see. The reason I brought it up is because the art style is VERY similar. But I'll take a look when I have time, assuming I get through ALL THESE DEMOS:

Planet of Lana
Okay…I would like this game. Puzzle platformer, set on a beautiful, loving crafted planet that faces a terrible invasion. And there's no combat, so you have to avoid the robotic invaders through stealth and puzzle solving.

…And yet it sounds all so familiar. Even the fonts are the same. I'm pretty sure this another take on Planet Alpha. I played that game as well, and it's also a very pretty but quaint indie game. I wouldn't be surprised if this team is the same team that made Planet Alpha, since they started the same year that game came out. It has all the trademarks of that game. Not sure how I feel about that. I mean, there's a cute creature who follows you, so that's different I guess, but still…

Plan B: Terraform
I'm guessing it's a Chinese game, given the city names are all Chinese. It's a rather simple, relaxing "terraform Mars" game. I played it for about an hour. It was good fun, to be honest. Sometimes instructions were a little vague and unclear, but I enjoyed building a little city using basic resource management. Nothing more to it, really.

Godfist
I was really excited about this one. A first-person game about punching God in the face? What's not to like? Then I started the demo, and it's buggy as all get out. I can't move forward, only backward, and I can't strafe right, only left. For a first person game, that's BAD. Controller works fine, but I don't play FPSes that way. Also, massive screen tear despite V-Sync being on. Something sketch here.

I sent a note to the dev, and he said to reset inputs…which indeed fixed the control problem. Also, screen tear was a little less obvious. The game is kind of a first-person Smash Bros. fighter? Where you punch people until they're so weak they fly off with your punch? And you suffer the same problem? It's all right but ultimately not that interesting. I would've liked something more…robust.

Sparks of Hope: tracking down roaming bob-ombs.

MMBN3: tracking down fixed encounters before ascending The Rankings.

Dark Sun ~ Shattered Lands: There's a mechanical difference between Fighters and Gladiators but hell if I remember what it is off of the top of my head. As a practical matter: Fighters start with a shield in their offhand, Gladiators start with a club instead.

AWDS: up to Snow Hunters. I'm debating whether or not I want to mess with Spiral Garden. On the one hand the unlock is easy enough on Hard Campaign since you have access to Sami. On the other hand, Spiral Garden is emphatically not fun and I use Piperunners for a grand total of two missions (and the only reason I'd use them over Rockets is because said missions are full of plains and Rockets don't move very quickly on plains.

AW2: I made a thing and now I feel compelled to test it ugh
