Sorry for the triple post!!
Finished the SotC.
Yeah I super loved that game a lot. For real, that's definitely one of my favorite games ever. No idea what was happening at the end there though! Maybe Ico will add some context?

No reason to apologize for multi-posting when you have something to say.

Anyway, that Gauntlet thread made me want to try something similar only under my own terms, so I booted up Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Made it to Stage 7 on the easier path before taking a break. If this goes well enough, I guess I'll try to move on to an SNES game.

Currently playing on Wii U Mario Kart 8 and Rayman Legend.

on 3DS I played the Tomodachi life demo, it's pretty great. I might get the game, but first I need to know something:
Does it exist somewhere a Mii version of raocow?

I believe that Ico is a completely different story, but I could be wrong, I've never actually checked it out since I heard the entire game was escort questing and that was it for me.

Spoiler below is interpretation/explanation of what all happens at the end of SotC
Wanda is the name of our main character, just so you know. I believe the game was either test called Wanda and the Colossus or it's actually called that in Japan. So you beat the very last guy and then the god that has been helping you all this time so nicely (and which very well might as well be the Devil as far as I'm concerned in how he's portrayed throughout in this game) possesses you with the help of all of what the colossi did to your body.

The men who have been chasing you all this time for having stolen the blade (hypothetical here, I don't think the game actually says why they're chasing you so it very well could be because you killed the girl and you're now trying to undo what you've done) then run away from your colossus form and the shaman does some magic voodoo and causes the pool in the temple to become a blackhole of purification.

Thus having been purified of your possession you're left a little kid with some demonic afterthoughts in the shape of the horns on your head, with only the girl that you've saved and your lame (lame as in hurt, Agro is awesome) horse for company for all time, as the only way out has been broken, the grand bridge that exploded at the end there.
Also, if you waited until the very end of the credits and you saw the lovely little garden at the top of the temple, you can actually get on top of the temple and go to that garden! How you do it is BEYOND ME since I refuse to look into how to do it beyond knowing you can do it.

There are entire communities devoted to finding secrets in Shadow of the Colossus, it's very much a game that it's interesting to see what all they put in. I believe some of these guys even succeeded and found a way to glitch through the world and found some kind of structure, very interesting.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/924364-shad ... sus/cheats

You'll want to take a look over at the cheats section at FAQs just to see the very many things that one can unlock in the game. Brown Agro, and a whole ton of weapons and things to wear. Getting these is unfortunately rather tedious since it involves either beating colossi in time attack mode or hard time attack mode. Which is not really something that you want to do since you already beat the game and you're very satisfied with how it went, but there you go.

Looking up some of the weapons on Youtube is interesting.

Congratz Ashan, you just experienced one of the best games of all time~

Thanks for all the info!
I might look into the unlockables. Today I decided to do a full run through the game start to finish and did decent compared to my original run through (top 2 are my first run, saved before and after final boss, bottom is run I did today.):

I'm likely going to start a hard mode run tomorrow.

If I recall correctly they take place in the same universe and SotC happens before Ico but they're not directly related. It's just somewhat implied that the character from SotC is the ancestor of the one from Ico.
Wanda is the name of our main character, just so you know. I believe the game was either test called Wanda and the Colossus or it's actually called that in Japan.
I don't think this is actually a spoiler compared to the rest of what you wrote but just to be safe I'll spoiler it too.

In the English version his name is supposed to be Wander from my understanding.

Also, if you waited until the very end of the credits and you saw the lovely little garden at the top of the temple, you can actually get on top of the temple and go to that garden! How you do it is BEYOND ME since I refuse to look into how to do it beyond knowing you can do it.
It's not actually difficult to get up there really. You just need to have found enough of the stamina upgrade whatever they weres to actually last long enough to reach it.

Oh yeah, I wonder if Ashan found out about those...

There's two upgrades that can be found in the game. Fruit from trees that can be shot down, and white tailed lizards that can be shot and then their tails eaten.

One improves your stamina and one improves your health.

It's another thing the game doesn't really tell you about, though the game is completely doable without getting any of them, if just a tad harder.

Is it true there's actually a secret pickup that actually *lowers* your max health/stamina? I recall reading that...somewhere.

I need to give that game another shot one of these days... I got it cheap some time back, tried it for a bit, wasn't overly impressed with the weird graphics and awkward controls, wandered around lost for 20 minutes or so, and haven't played it since. Hrm.

Also...

I believe it was indeed called "Wanda/Wander and the Colossus" in Japan. I originally got the soundtrack to it from a very Japanese-centric music site, and it was a fair while before I learned that it and Shadow of the Colossus are one and the same.

Yes actually! Funnily enough the fruit in the trees of the secret garden permanently decrease your health instead of increasing it.

Someone should do a run where they get the bare minimum stamina upgrades to make it up there then collect all the fruit they can in the secret garden before trying to beat all the colossi.

Oh, man. I'm familiar with the name but I had no idea that was a sequel to SotC or that it was cancelled.
Although the Wikipedia page doesn't really mention a cancellation. Last thing it mentions along the "history" section is that a few artists for the game left earlier this year. So maybe there's still hope?

Yeah, after beating the game I found out about those things. Still not really sure where to find fruits and not sure if I've seen one of those lizards but yeah. Both of my runs through the game I never used either of those pickups.
A few things I didn't find out until after I finished the game (that's when I started looking things up):
  • You can hop onto the horse just by jumping at him and then holding R1. That would have been amazing to know since I hated trying to get on my horse before since the place you had to stand when pressing triangle near him was super tiny and half the time I would just be standing beside my horse jumping trying to get on.
  • You can hold X on the horse. This is helpful for 2 reasons, the first being that you don't have to keep tapping X to keep him from slowing down, and also it puts him on auto-horse mode where he'll navigate narrow paths by himself. Considering the manual horse controls in this game are impossible sometimes, this would have been nice to know.

"Spiritual" being the core phrase here! The game would feature an animal companion as well and graphics that look EXTREMELY similar to Ico and SotC's style, so hey, spiritual successor why not. And by the same studio and same creator.

You have no idea though, the game has gone through development hell. Announced and then trashed a few times, redone, and then the head artist leaving...

It was announced back in 2007 after all. It was supposed to be out long since.

Of course, Fumito has strong vision is the thing, they wouldn't want to put out an inferior product after the massive success of SotC.

http://www.edge-online.com/features/ico ... with-sony/

Fun little interview while I'm at it. I suppose it's always possible that it could still come out.

It's kinda funny, Team Ico reminds me of ThatGameCompany in a lot of ways. Both of them gotten by Sony and working on a first party basis and both of them coming out with artistic and amazing games. ThatGameCompany working on their fourth title and Team Ico working on their third.

So apparently on the final boss
when you're on his second hand you're supposed to stab it and then shoot an arrow at his shoulder so he reaches his hand over and you can climb up his neck. I didn't know this and I ended up waiting for his second hand to be at a high enough point that I could jump onto a little ledge he has near his chest area. Not sure if that's an intentional second method or if I accidentally pulled off speedrunning strats on my first time fighting the final boss.

So I beat the bruce lee game for the game boy advance. Was pretty neat combo of stealth, platforming and beat-em-up. I'll have to go back someday and play it at a higher difficulty.

I think I'll attempt the first of my gauntlet next sometime soon.

This is the EXACT thing that I did on a recent run through when I forgot exactly how to climb the boss and was doing it pretty blind. I kept on messing up though and I was like "THIS CAN'T BE HOW YOU DO THIS, I KEEP ON SCREWING IT UP." and I looked up a walkthrough and was so peeved at having missed the shoulder thing.

It's hard to say whether it's deliberately a second method or not, but for me I'm going to consider it speedrunning strats since no other colossus is like that with having multiple methods of getting them.

Yeah, for the third boss (giant sword slab thing guy) I never break his cuff armour thing like you're supposed to any more. I did it on my first playthrough (completely unintentionally) but every time since then I've just gotten on his sword and timed a jump with his upward swing and hopped over his cuff. It's actually not hard to pull off at all and it seems to be a lot faster than luring him around to hit the plate on the ground or whatever.

Oh, also I beat all the time attacks on normal mode today. Now I'm playing through a second play through on my first file and it's super easy because these items make me super OP and I have a crapload of stamina so all of the bosses can be killed in a few hits.
Actually, the first boss I did one shot. Pretty amazing.

You're blazing through and that's pretty amazing. I never have the motivation after I've beaten the game to do it again, just because I'm so satisfied with just that first run through.

I went back to one of my childhood games and I'm replaying Warcraft III.

For SOME ODD REASON I said to myself "OH, I already played this, so let's go ahead and crank it up to hard difficulty" This game is absolutely kicking my ass right now. And I'm only on chapter five.

It's been really nice to go back and play it though, to revisit these old characters that I love. Warcraft III was one of the first games to really enthrall me with the story, the single player campaign is one of the best campaigns I've ever seen in a game, and ESPECIALLY in a top down strategy game.

It's also nice to go back because I've been playing a lot of Hearthstone and a lot of the characters in there were born in this game.

Recently I just got done replaying Spyro 2 from the Childhood. It really opened my eyes up to how good games back then were. So much effort were put into the games..though there weren't that many stages as say Mario games it was a case of quality over quantity. Every stage felt unique in its own way and only a couple stages had similar enemies. The hub worlds were cleverly designed and the bosses were simple but fun. And not too hard to 100% either, i decided to 100% the last few stages and did it easily with the exception of one. Playing on the PSP though with that nub..oh my god it's awful especially since mines starting to go.

I'm also playing some FFX on the PS2. So many cutscenes but the game itself is gorgeous. It plays like a movie and is actually pretty fun.
