watched an hour of cutscenes in Star Ocean: The Last Hope International and did like half an hour of exploring and fighting. gonna harvest som blueberries before the first boss. im tired

if anyone knows a good guide for ps3 exclusive shit hmu

its better than so3 gameplay wise but as a tradeoff, apparently its story and characters are a thousand times worse than so3 (i told reimi to shut up like 3 times in the span of an hour)

TiKi wrote: 2 years ago I've played plenty of Zelda Classic quests and let me tell you God I hate those types of items. The entire issue is that you have to have specific heavy rocks in the level design to lift instead of the glove giving you a new ability that can be used anywhere. Like, maybe if it let you pick up stunned enemies or let you throw bombs further I could see a use, but it's basically useless out of the situations where the game specifically makes you use it. As-is there's nothing intrinsically more fun about a rock that you can lift/push with the L1 gloves vs. the L2 glove rocks, and gating something in dungeons behind those just comes off as cheesy and depriving you of a fun upgrade.
I feel like this is just a consequence of Zeldas of that era, where they really struggled to put together late-game mechanics and gating. The problem the handheld Zeldas pre-Minish Cap and even Link to the Past had is that they just couldn't figure out a way to balance out gating stuff only available late in the game without being too obvious. They got better with Minish Cap, and it was far less an issue by the time Zelda moved to 3D in general.

Anyway, finished Metroid Zero Mission. A much longer in-game time than previous Metroids (4:07), I think this is where I can start putting together the secret project I'm working on. I will say I'm profoundly confused as to whether or not it's possible to clear the stealth segments post-Tourian without getting caught at all, but I have seen it in speedruns. Routing in late-game was pretty atrocious on my end, which I probably added to my time. But I also found it hard to really route all the remaining items in a way that made sense? I dunno, I ain't a speedrunner of this stuff. But playing this, I'm putting together things...yes...

The timing of me finishing that though made for an interesting impasse. The original plan was GTA IV, as I've hinted at the last several months. However, it just so happened that Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was a couple days away from release. After speaking with several people on the matter, I decided to go with Lego first. Glad I did. It's been a fun game so far. Quite a bit different from what I expected. It's a lot more complex than Complete Saga was. It handles the differentiation between "level" and "open world" pretty well in Story Mode. What is interesting is what has been defined as "levels" and what has been relegated to "open world" segments. For example, in Episode I, your escape from the Trade Federation ship is an open-world tutorial, as is your arrival on Naboo. The first "level" is a rail shooter sequence. I'm not entirely sure I feel this, but it's still fun. And the open-world part of the game is enjoyable. They took a lot of pages from Super Mario Odyssey by placing Moons Khyber Bricks throughout the open-world areas for you to find. I like this game's implementation for it more, though, since the Bricks serve a purpose beyond gating: You can upgrade your characters and character classes with these, making them stronger and more useful. I really like that.

If I had a quibble to make about the game so far, it'd be its narrative approach. What made Complete Saga so good from a story standpoint was the complete absence of any written/spoken dialogue, and its replacement with pantomime and mumbling voices. It added this slapstick energy to the narrative that also subtly took the piss on the franchise, which I liked. Skywalker Saga brings some of that back with Mumble Mode, but that's not on as a setting (you can only turn it on as an Extra in the Extra settings in-game). So you always have to hear Rey's overwrought one-liner every time you open the game. But moreover, while the mumbles and hubbub return with that mode on, it's still chained to an actual script, which makes it weird and dissonant. There's still some of the slapstick energy from Complete Saga, but it's not as potent. And it feels like we have to follow through on the official narrative to some degree, which kind of sucks. At the same time, I don't think this is so much a case of Disney meddling with stuff as it is just the mechanics of the Lego games changing from those halcyon days (I'm aware they added voice-acting and scripts at least a decade ago with Lego Batman 2). So it's hard to be angry. More just disappointed. Still, I intend to play this game through. I finished Episode I of Story Mode. I'll probably go through Episode II and III, then deep-dive into the open-world stuff before moving to the original and sequel trilogies.

Of course, I say that, but then raocow decides to start playing the ever-awesome Outer Wilds, and I have yet to play Echoes of the Eye. Might want to get started on that...

Yesterday, I dreamt about Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, but it was like a fucked up traditional SRPG with giant ass 5x5 2D Zelda submaps wide maps and Valhollian style aesthetics. It was cursed and the worst thing I've ever seen. So I played Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (PSX). Really fun and cute, reminds me of Lunar, very comedic (but with less offensive humor "courtesy" of Working Designs, as it's translated by Atlus USA).

Gameplay is set in small basic SRPG maps for each random encounter, and outside of that functions roughly like a traditional SRPG, with the dynamic of the lead (Cornet) and the multi-purpose soldiers (the Puppets). The game is very easy, so it encourages you to just use the Horn as Cornet to power up the three Puppets you have out then wail on the enemies and knock them out in one attack, or use Sharte's broken Holy-elemental spells.

What sells the game is the cute world though, much like Lunar. The dubbed musical sequences are a delight, and I'm the sort of person who gets flustered watching musicals (don't ask me why it's a weird embarrassment trigger for me, even singing Happy Birthday for me gets me flustered). Jody Fleischer sounds a lot like Jenny Stigile which I appreciate, the two are great singers. The Puppets are also very cute.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the amount of gay-coded NPCs in this game. There's a soldier praying so he can kiss François (wonder who), a minister calling out why only women can win the prince's heart, the ballroom has four pairs of NPCs dancing with the same gender (two mlm, two wlw) and two dancing with the opposite gender. Overall, really cute game that I'm looking forward to playing more.

As for heartthrobs in the game... Gao and Marjoly are really cute, I want to hug them, women or not :3

------------------------------------

And today I tried out Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth to see how bad it truly was and man... It's bad. The RAP system feels like it gets in the way more often than not, the advantages and the disadvantages are very lopsided, if an enemy sticks close to you then can basically wail like four times on you with attacks due to how the RAP system works.

You can do the same but a lot of the time, you're underleveled and you do barely any damage, and you can't attack from the front last I checked. There's also the absurdly complex Coinfeigm and Session system that I've heard are too much effort for too little gain for the latter, and easy to mess up aligning coins due to RNG for the former.

If one of your party members dies and you don't revive them by the end of the battle, you will instantly lose them, too. Which is absurd considering I heard this game is chaotically hard. This happened to me with a rando in Floor 2 of the Tower of Trials and I was just overwhelmed that I just gave up. Would not recommend to normal people.

Since I'm not normal, I might give it another shot to try and acclimatize, but my friend Garr gave up on it because it was just a menial struggle. Which, they're not wrong. You get paltry EXP unless you kill a member of the opposing party. It's just a very bad version of Summon Night or FFT or Tactics Ogre, really, just play FFT or Tactics Ogre. Or Summon Night 5 and 6, but I'm not sure if Vic Ireland fucked with those too bad, script wise. I'm still at 3.

smt4: these dlc battles can go eat several hams (mostly just Kaiju Masakado; everything else just needed small tweaks to the strategy and not trying to do them while I'm raiding Kagome Tower, but Kaiju Masakado drains everything so I have to actually use the other DLC demons to meaningfully attack him). on the plus side i only really need to fight King Kenji one more time and then i'll have my shiny four-completion-mark save file and can go back to enjoying the game casually again (being level 99 kind of sucks the fun out of it)

pokemon shining pearl: slowly climbing that tower! Apparently there's a Strength TM at the top this time and I kind of actually do want that.

pokemon red litelocke: actually by the time i reach this point normally i've stopped catching stuff so the only real restriction at this point that's uncomfortable is the "don't buy healing items" bit. also i held off on grabbing the Celadon Eevee so that I could nab a Dratini from the game corner instead and I forgot that Game Corner Dratini starts at level 18 and so has the same problem that Silph Co. Lapras has in that he's basically just an XP Sink in Gen 1 thanks to the EXP Share being stupid late.

Bowser's Inside Story: Plack Beach, but since this is the 3ds version I got sidetracked by Bowser Junior's Adventure and i'm not sure if i like this more or less than Bowser's Minions from Superstar Saga 3d? i like being able to set the formation manually but it just feels so much more complex than the original somehow despite not actually being that much more complex. Then again I'm only halfway through the first sphere in BJA so maybe I'm just talking too early.

oh god tell me about it. that is a waking nightmare when one lives with one's parents and i feel "watched" even with headphones on. i really need to watch steven universe on my parents' hulu but i am mortified to death of getting caught as though it were a motherfucking porno

I'm never playing Hoshigami again, it is the Epitome Of Unfun. There are people who say it's great because it's hard but if you're stupid enough to play this to sate your lust for challenge, why don't you just smack your nuts with a meat hammer? You'll have more fun. This is just Dark Souls if Dark Souls had no concept of fun and was exclusively difficulty.

Literally worse than Hydlide 2.

Got the true ending in the Kirby and the Forgotten Land co-op run last night. We wound up beating the last few final stages that were left and even boss without having to retry, although it came real close. Definitely needed a little pick me up in the item storage. Not sure if I should change the date on when the game was beaten now or not, but whatever. That was one of the best Kirby games I've played, and that's saying something.

Halfway through Chapter 1 in Hoshigami: Ruining My Life Blue Earth after redownloading the game again due to my sheer stubbornness wrt leaving games unfinished.

I'm currently at lv9 at Widden and I'm gonna grind through the Tower of Trials near said town, pass a few levels as Ramza Fazz, self-flagellation session, more levels, more self-flagellation, until we reach around Lv20. You can gain decent levels by hitting your own party as a DS version FAQ informed me. FFT stone tossing taken to the next level, this is truly made by ex-Quest, ex-Square staff. It's still not a good game.

I'm not using the Story units, I'd have to level them up and ugggghhhhhhgufdhuidfhuidfhuifhiudfh, Romleth is already 5 levels below the rest of my randos and Fazz, despite the previous battle before the prison escape having Level 6 enemies, and the one I'm heading in Widden Valley having Level 7 enemies (apparently it scales until a specific cap per battle/unit but lmao.).

Also I just headcanon the weaker units hitting the stronger units from the back in Floor 1's entry point as "chiseling their backs". Don't ask me why, we're all using daggers when we grind for maximum efficiency (4 hits per RAP bar, no overflow) and that's what it looks like to me. Or rubbing sunscreen. Or massaging their back. I guess you could say it looks like something else, but nah.

-------------------------------------

Also playing Summon Night 1 as a palate cleanser, while doing a minimal grind run, similar to the Brave Clear run of SN3-6 (balanced level up progression). Just beat Chapter 3 at Lv7 Natsumi and Claret, Lv6 Gazel, Leid and Edos. Need to level up Leid and Gazel tomorrow since they were knocked out in battle. Extremely fun, I like having to come up with quick solutions like baiting the Taquesi and Imuran to waste their MP on Claret, Leid and Gazel before attacking with Edos and Natsumi.

I like how a lot of Summon Night is slice of life fluff mixed with fantasy battles, it's super cute and relaxing. Like a healing show, see: Kemono Friends. There's also Demon King routes for those who want edgelord bad endings though.

Even Chapter 3 was basically: Edos shows the Protag the Arsaku Blossoms (they're the Lyndbaum equivalent of cherry blossoms, sakura -> arsaku), so the Flat gang decides to have a picnic in the Ark Riverbed to watch the flowers bloom, but UH OH! The Golden Society was stationed there for a feast! Protag gets reeled into sneaking in and eating their food by Gazel! Now they beat up Imuran of the aristocratic Mahn family who was really angry at them for eating their food!

It's sheer dopamine.

So I've returned to Outer Wilds. Got through a good chunk of the Ship Log. That said...kind of confused at how to really start Echoes of the Eye.
I'm aware of the picture with the anomaly and the satellite. I spoke to Gabbro, they gave me directions on how to reach the satellite. I got to the satellite, and saw the anomaly at the right time. I just don't know what to do next. I launched my Scout at the anomaly, and while it clearly reacted to the anomaly by slingshotting back, that had no serious effect. Flying toward it does nothing, there's no signal from the signalscope. And it disappears as quickly as it appears.

Is there something I'm missing here? Like, do I have to look for other things to appear in the Ship Log before I can really start piecing this together? (Only thing Echoes related seems to be the the Radio Tower, with only one entry.) Or is this some kind of Quantum Moon chicanery?
Will continue with Episode II of Skywalker Saga tomorrow.

I'm playing 1. Purse Owner 1. Persona 1 is alright, doing the SEBEC quest on PSX rn, at the Police Station, doing time for my horny macro crimes. What I feel about this localization really got toned down after I realized the following: "this is Atlus' first RPG localization and they had no idea what to do to make it palatable to American audiences". They learned quickly I'll say, further proving that they're better than Working Designs.

Oh right I forgot that altus released two games under the "Revelations" name, not just one. And in my opinion both games need to have a Modern Spell Names mod. Especially with Revelations The Demon Slayer I can't tell if I'm casting Zanma or Mazanma (both spells got localized as "Impact 2"). Anyway yeah, Persona 1. I need to finish that once I get my PS2 back.

Beat the Sivon subscenario in Summon Night 1. Being at a levelwise disadvantage compared to Galeff and Toados (unofficial anglicizations), but being at the same level as their underlings, I went for a more "sniper-y" strategy with Gazel and Sivon, being my long range attackers, Gazel using a throwing dagger and Sivon using a bow and arrow.

Also took advantage of AI manipulation to trick the Petit Toados to get in an AI loop while sniping some of them. Smart equipment purchases and a bit of luck helped in the Galeff fight. Edos managed to sneak one hit in despite missing every other one, and I feel like it helped scrape together a victory, with Gazel reducing Galeff to critical status making it tuck tail and run across the map, finishing it off with powerful strikes.

Toados was a case of just sniping, as I've explained. The leader Toados doesn't move at all, which comes at a huge advantage when you have a long range fighter. I feel like letting you turtle your way to victory with it was an intentional design decision, while Galeff was the big challenge of the subscenario, being super strong (~180 STR and Lv12 jesus). If you grind to beat Galeff you are absolutely excused haha, I did the same in my first playthrough.

Oh that's cringe @ Impact 2. Persona 1, I actually thought about playing in Japanese for the Snow Queen quest, but it has so much Kanji that's new to me so... I'm gonna spend a smidge of time in the Prison trying to grind out demon convos to get some mon-shaped assistance. Shin Megami Tensei 1 thankfully taught me that this is how the main gameplay loop of Megaten is like and MT1&2's simpler convos aren't really much of a thing going forward.

There is like 10 actions you can do though, which... Oof. It's only been one hour so far, but I worry I'm missing out on anything wrt levelling up your Persona and all. Thankfully there's no Social Links so I don't have to schedule a whole game like I would Romancing SaGa 1. I'm expecting it to not be too bad at the end but the less I have on my mind, the better.

ArcStrider on YK's server also informed me about the Karma Palace and thankfully, the pretty lousy walkthrough on GameFAQs (with absolutely abominable typography, just a girthy wall of text) does have what appears to be a step by step guide. FYI, Karma Palace is basically

an automap-less ten story dungeon where you mostly navigate through floor pits rather than stairs

, it sounds absolutely hilarious.

In Bloons TD 6, I finally managed to black border every easy grade map! For those who don't know, whenever you complete every objective on a map (difficulty, sub-difficulties like half cash, one type of tower only, etc.), that map gets a red border. If you beat the hardest medal without exiting the game, you get a special black border! I feel super proud of this, as coming up with strategies and managing different heroes to accomplish beating all these tough challenges! Now I get to move on to attempt the more difficult maps, oof. Wish my luck

Bravely Default: I'm wandering around Florem, tracking down asterisks. Spell Fencer's accidental boost to physical resistance when using stuff like Silence Blade is nice, but Florem is still Rocket Tag Central.

Deltarune Chapter 1: Oh right this is way more involved than Undertale gets. Not sure if I like UT or DR better but I still haven't played Chapter 2 yet so shrug.gif

Earthbound: Red Antoids and Farm Zombies. Eurgh. And Mach Pizza doesn't tell you over the phone how much it's gonna cost so Double Eurgh.

Reached Chapter 6 in Summon Night 3 and

Falzen is a girl (Fariel) in a masculine suit of armor???? Yooooooooooo i vibe with this

. Also we get some motivation for the Imperial Forces being in the island, they might be after the Demon Blade that Aty currently has and gives her the ability to non-Mono-Shift into Super Aty.

We also got introduced to the side characters in the separate settlements beyond just Maruru: Panashe, Subaru, Misumi, Genji, Kunon, Flaize, the Mimicry Master, the stray Taquesi (Ghoul in Swordcraft 1), though Kunon and Flaize might have appeared earlier. The Mimicry Master's minigame was tough, I barely won.

Another thing that was tough was the battle against Jakinie (remember him from SN2, he's back in pog form!), his little brother Oukinie and their sea men :drum:. Thankfully using Tamahippo helped a lot thanks to how really fucking good poisoning is in Summon Night. Spheippo? Sphere + Hippo, could also be a play on Hippopotamus and the Hippos & Tamus summon from SN1&2 and technically Swordcraft 1. Yafha, noted "they didnt hire any furries :pensive:" ass cutie in my current avatar also had Tamahippo but I didn't realize it at the time.

Subaru's lilypad jumping minigame was also tough, but it's more of how my keys are set up in PCSX2 compared to a PS2 controller, you have to jump in the good lily pads without staying on them for too long or accidentally jumping on a super frail one. To jump on the left front one you press Square, Triangle for the one in front of you and Circle for the one to the right and front. The way I have it on my keyboard has it be like left is X, center is Z, right is A, QWERTY btw.

I'll give it another shot before I finish Chapter 6 with the keys set up better (maybe ASD for □△O respectively), should be in the Silturn settlement, it's necessary to score good at it to unlock Subaru as a playable unit, and also have high affection with Misumi, since she's basically his mom I think, his dad died.

The battle against Vijue and Ghalleo was also kinda tough. Again, exploiting low stats on the opposite party's units helped, still had a lot of dead units myself, but man, scumming Ghalleo into emptying out his MP so he couldn't use Stora to heal and using super!Aty's physicals and Wil's Teco summon ability to keep pounding on him because Demon Sword Aty is purposefully broken and Ghalleo has low Magic Defense, felt super dumb and kind of funny.

Vijue was kinda easier if more hectic because Yafha was in battle so I could just poison him with Tamahippo's attack, I might have gotten lucky with him though. Kyuuma also deals a lot of damage and I've distributed Kyle's stats to the point that he's generally a solid heavy hitter, probably the highest attack in my party. Kyuu and Yaff are only in my party because I went the Yafha route in Chapter 3, rather than Aldira or Falzen.

If I did go on the latter two I would have gotten Falzen who might have come with an extra Picolitt to act as my secondary healer after Yard. Aldira might have come with Bezzsaw, since she's blatantly a Nesty callback, being a Veiger (half-human half-cyborg) with glasses and all, I'm not sure, since I went with either Yafha or Kyuuma, they might not be playable, but I might still get Flaize and Kunon.

So far my party set up is Aty and Scarrel as the so-so attackers, Sonora as long range, Yard as the designated healer, Kyle, Yafha and Kyuuma as the heavy hitters. Wil has joined the party recently but I'm not sure where he'll fall. I'm also gonna try and get to make Aty a part time healer along with Yard by getting an extra Picolitt summonite through the Spiky Ocarina accessory. At least unlike Hoshigami I don't have to wait fifty turns between casts to cast again on one not-Materia.

Sorry for nerding out over this dumb game, sometimes RPGs are good.

I personally like Deltarune better, Undertale is like. The battle system and gameplay feels super basic which, yeah, it's Toby's first game but like. It really feels that way once you get past the initial hype storm and novelty of the Megami Tensei-style negotiation puzzles. I still need to continue my replay of both Ch1 and Underdungus so. I think I'm nearing the end of Chapter 1 and I know I'm at Waterfall in UT.

Need to replay Earthbound too, and continue BraDef.

Bravely Default: I forgot how creepy DeRosso is in BD1. And frustrating to fight (protip: do not bring Time Mage spells into this fight). I think I'll come back for his asterisk later (I can't actually abuse Red Mage abilities for BP with only one Crystal awakened anyway, since Red Mage is hilariously underpowered until about chapter 4 even if you're abusing Abilink for all abilities because you're so badly limited in equipment/levels/grinding). Also I think there's a Job Points cap that's based on story progression that I never noticed before? Crossing Mount Fragmentum, Edea was sitting at Freelancer 5 for what felt like an hour despite being one JP off of Freelancer 6. (n.b.: I'm pushing Bravely Default as hard as I am right now simply because of how Norende Restoration works. While Norende is objectively better than XBC2's Merc Missions simply because it still works while the system is asleep I still have to keep BD1 running for Norende Reconstruction to keep progressing. Which sucks because I have other games I would like to play right now)

deltarune: oh hey I beat basically both Chapters 1 and 2 on their Ralsei routes in one sitting each. Jevil was actually difficult since he has hard-hitting attacks that target everyone, while it felt like Spamton NEO could only target one party member at a time (I'm not sure about this? Also it could just be me being used to the combat system by that point). Nothing else felt challenging question marks? But I'm pretty sure that's just because I'm hot off the heels of undertale and so still have my Tobymaku reflexes handy.

Punch Out: I... kinda suck eggs at Punch-Out type games. I tried Super Punch Out but quickly got confused since there's three times as many buttons to learn and NSO doesn't come with the manuals. NES Punch Out is easier for me to play simply because it's simpler and I "only" have to worry about the D-Pad and two buttons.

Earthbound: it's too bad I can't use the receiver phone to place a pizza order while I'm speaking the password but I'm pretty sure they can't deliver to me up by the Belch Factory anyway. Also everything up here needs so much PP to beat that it's starting to feel like I should be grinding instead of trying to push forward but the Belch Factory is right. THERE.

I think you meant DeRosa (the Red Mage)? DeRosso is the Vampire (Blue Mage). Anyway DeRosa is disgusting but he is hot

Also I never bother with the Norende Reconstruction.

Ah, right, DeRosa. (This is why the One Steev Limit exists, by the way). Though I picked up the free Rebuff Locket from Hartschild or whatever so now I should be able to win without having to spam dispel.
Also I never bother with the Norende Reconstruction.
It's the best source of damage items since it lets The Save Point Person sell them to you (I would still be fighting World 5's Rusalka if not for the damage items), plus the Special Parts eventually uncork MP and BP recovery for your staff T1 special.

Wanted to play Dinosaur Resurrection again, but Fishbone isn't around to help me troubleshoot her in-progress translation patch, which is currently borked, at least on my end (Win10). Thus, I pirated the JP release from Adventure Legends (google it yourself I'm not linking it lol). It's harder to get the story down, but at least I can play the game.

Back to where I was, Temple B2F. I forget how I found the Orlic story progression trigger at the castle before, you have to walk into the castle gate, which shunts you back. I might have just bullshitted my way or Fishbone might have told me? Elis and the Uties battle are kind of not hard to find due to the White Butterfly. Had to use a bit of a YouTube playthrough myself.

I just grind my way through Bravely Default. I also play on Easy because Bravely Default's bosses are all damage sponges otherwise which no thanks.

I checked some Hot Strats on GameFAQs and found the following wrt World 5 Russy:
A Valkyrie's Crescent Moon plus Thundaga Sword Magic can help. If you have a Vampire with Thundaja, use that too. Otherwise, use your strongest group hitting attacks.
You have Iceflame Shields to nullify its Seep attack?

Other than that, I have two characters Full Cover to other two, allowing them to attack freely and heal safely. It also helps to put on Charm Immunity(via ability or Lamia's Tiara).
Bravely Default is Kinda Bullshit lol
