Finished La Noire.

It was an all right game. It's sort of a difficult game for me to enjoy when I can't read facial expressions.

Some of the characters were essentially jerks, sorta drove me nuts. I wasn't too big a fan of the main character to be frank.

Uhhh... Still gotta 5 star all the cases, I'll probably use a guide for my own sanity, also got a bunch of collectables to find.

I let's played lampshade, which was very interesting platformer/puzzle game with some darkness related gimmicks and slight horror. The graphics were really nice too, and big part of what got me playing the game.

I've gotta get something off of my chest.

Dark Souls has without a doubt, the single WORST camera in any game I've ever played. Holy crap, what an irredeemable pile of shit that piece of garbage is. Not even gonna get into the awful lock-on system since 90% of that is a result of the worthless camera.
I'm really astounded that someone playtested with this and said, "Yeah, it's fine." That or From was just too lazy/not willing to invest effort to fix this huge blemish on the game, knowing that the audience they're shooting for would be fully willing to blatantly ignore and blindly defend even such a huge flaw.
I'm mad.

That aside, this is a really good game I wish I had gotten into a lot sooner.
But man, it REALLY sours the experience. Like, an entire letter grade off just for that.

And man,

the secret, bonus, extra, optional, challenge area is really tough.

Who would've thought, right?

I recently started my replay of Kindred Spirits but going through the story linearly instead of the more nonlinear fashion it's originally presented in. It's pretty interesting and it's great since you don't have to wait until you've finished the main story for a given month before seeing the conclusion to each of the separate storylines for the month. Though with the extras especially there'd be a lot of spoilers if it were actually presented that way normally, lol.

Nice, FFVII was a fun game to watch my relatives play through and an experience playing through it myself. If you're having a little trouble moving around, I believe there is an option turn on an arrow indicator to see where entry point on the screen are.

I've been playing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate with some friends at end game G Rank in preparation for the oncoming release of Monster Hunter Generations. Aside from that, I've been doing the rare, but occasional stream of SRW Z3 and soon SRW Z on Twitch. I gotta say, SRW Z3 is a behemoth to continue with, but I bet SRW Z is gonna be even more amazing to play once I start.

I started Danganronpa yesterday because a friend bought it for me thinking I'd be interested in it. Actually does seem interesting so far. The cursor system you use to examine things can be a bit buggy at times though. So far I've accidentally advanced the story by going through a door when my cursor was over a person and I've managed to examine an object that was on the exact opposite side of the room from my cursor. Hopefully that won't be too big an issue later.

Oh hey. I forgot about this thread. Again.

So. May as well infodump my progress over the last couple months, because I can.

First, I played through Okami back in March or thereabouts. Fantastic game.

First, I absolutely loved the art style, and honestly wish more games would give their game unique looks, rather than just trying to be "photo-realistic" and making everything look brown and muted. Second, I enjoyed how it played with a lot of Japanese fables, which had just enough twists to make what I thought I knew not *quite* right, but still adhered enough to tradition that I knew what to expect in some cases. (The bunny-eared woman named Kaguya was actually [ispoiler]from the moon[/ispoiler]? Holy shnozzle, I *never* would have guessed!) That it utilized the Eastern Zodiac, including the part about the Cat being left out, also made me smile.

I've heard the game described as a "Zelda clone", and yeah, it makes no attempt to hide its inspiration, but I felt like it did enough to differentiate itself from its source that it did succeed as its own thing. The Celestial Brush was a ridiculously fun and intuitive mechanic, especially given all the fun things you could do with it... much of which served absolutely no purpose except to give you a rather mischievous laugh.

The game, however, was on the easy side. It wasn't that it required no strategy or anything; many of the battles required the usage of your techniques to defeat, and they could get rather dangerous. It was that dying past a certain point was virtually an impossibility. Between the ready availability of healing items, the ability to stock 99 of each, and the way you could get up to *four* "auto-revive upon death" powerups at once (which were also fairly easy to replenish), there wasn't much chance of failure. The only time I came even close to dying was during the first battle with Waka, which was my own fault due to not catching the gimmick and trying to fight him the hard way. Though this admittedly actually worked well; you *are* controlling a god, after all, so of course Ammy wouldn't be taken down easily. And I've never really had a problem with games being easy. I'm not the type who froths at the mouth if the game I'm playing doesn't take every opportunity to mash my face in. Sometimes I just enjoy a fun, easy ride. And Okami delivered and then some.

After that was just a lot of puttering around in Oblivion. Trying out mods of varying quality and such. I love that game, but it has more bugs than a rainforest and crashes more often than a rookie race car driver. Yeah.

Now I'm working my way through, and have nearly completed Tales of Eternia. Or Tales of Destiny 2, as it was kind of cumbersomely titled in the US. PSX original, because I happened to have a copy, despite its apparent rarity. I don't remember *where* I got it, either, so that's kind of strange.

It's... well, it's pretty much a Tales game, and being one of the earlier ones, it's kind of rough and unpolished, with the AI not being terribly bright (and performing moves a human couldn't match, such as blocking at any time, even during your multi-hit attacks, whereas you have to stand completely still to block), and the spell system is weird in that you basically have spirits that you split between your two spell casters, and they gain new spells by combining with ones the other character has. As a result, there are a lot of spells you won't be able to use, because they require a different setup than the one you have. It's interesting and adds an element of experimentation to find out what works best for you, but I kinda miss being able to just have every spell.

On the plot side... eh, it honestly reminds me a bit of a Mana game, in that you're mostly just wandering the world gathering the elemental spirits for much of it. It does pick up later, but even at its best, it's not the most engaging thing in the world. But it doesn't have any ham-fisted, cringe-worthy moments like Phantasia, Symphonia, or the Abyss, so it's got that much going for it, at least. Beyond the Inferia royalty being incredibly useless and obtuse, but at least they're so minor that it's not much of an issue.

So yeah. There's my backlog for this thread. Hooray!

I've actually gone back to Pokemon Reborn, a fangame that used to get batted around on the skypehaus 2.0/3.0 a lot. It seems like the version number has changed since I last played, which has messed with a lot of the early event pokemon, but on the flip side, a lot of the early game plot dialogue seems to have been tightened up so it's slightly less cringey. Having played it a certain amount before, I sort've know what's coming up in the immediate future, but I'm just pottering around and trying to arrange a team out of all the weakling pokemon the game lands you with at first. (I started with Charmander, because early dragon rage is more or less a hard carry for some of the less fair bosses of the early game. The other option would be to grab me a Trubbish and rely on level 7 Toxic Spikes and level 12 Acid Spray to decimate almost any opposition, but I did that last time). My current team is Gwendolin (aforementioned Charmander) ClngerWinger (Wingull), Hora (Zigzagoon), Deeeeeleeee (based!Kricketune), Espurr (an Espurr), and Adda (Ekans).

Basic strat so far is for Wingull, Charmander and Espurr to be my offensive core. Ekans is my lead, since it has Intimidate and can set paralysis with Glare; I then switch out into whatever can resist my opponent's moveset best, since I haven't really found a tank I like yet. If I don't have anything with any particular resistance to the enemy mon, I roll with Zigzagoon since it's got Headbutt to STAB chip/flinchlock, and is otherwise a decent sacrifice for a switch (I'm mainly keeping it around for Pickup, since items and money are pretty limited in Reborn, and can be fairly powerful). If Zigzagoon wins, great! If it doesn't, I switch in for one of my damage guys. Kricketune I know to be very effective against some oddball early gymleaders, and already has STAB Struggle Bug, Fury Cutter, and some powerful attack for this point in the game, so it's a fringe case; I'll rotate it out of the team eventually, probably to make room for a wall, but right now it's a specialised solution to problems I know are coming up.

Lategame, provided I'm still using the same core (fairly unlikely, since Reborn sort've requires shaking up your party every now and then to deal with new threats and accomodate better mons), I can use my Ekans/Arbok as a more offensive force, setting paralysis as usual and then laying on some Acid Spray. Charizard will be Charizard. Espurr is male and will have Prankster when it evolves, so I can use it as a dual screens lead if I want to try out some less durable switch-ins. Wingull will eventually become Pelipper, which will give my team some defog and some bulk, although I hesitate to keep it around without grabbing some meaningful deterrent to electric-types, given that it has a 4x weakness and Charizard will also be weak. Zigzagoon, depending on move availability in this game, can eventually be morphed into a Belly Drum sweeper that will benefit from my Meowstic's dual screens. If not, well, Pickup gets better at higher levels, at least. Kricketune will most likely be in the pc, smoking a cigarette and murmuring, "I coulda been a contender..."

For all this planning, I'm pretty awful at pokemon.

I don't think so, unless that was in a previous version I haven't played. You have at least two different 'rival' figures given to you at the start of the game, and they're both pre-named and set in stone. You do get the option to play as a non-binary gender protagonist though.

I think Danganronpa can take the cake for most unexpected twists during one event. Won't mention what part of the story it was to avoid spoiling people but there were two twists on who the culprits was. It was so bad that I actually hadn't really caught up to it other than one detail which I'd noted seemed odd but hadn't put anymore thought into until it was mentioned by another character.

I've started playing Read Only Memories tonight, since it was part of a Humble Bundle and it came highly recommended by a friend, and oh my gosh this game is the most adorable thing. I mean, yeah, it deals with some pretty serious issues but holy crud it's amazing. I love Turing, the robot character, and the world it sets up is very intriguing. I can't wait to see where this game ends up going.

Finished Tales of Eternia earlier tonight. The final boss, like everything else in the game, just had way too much HP. Didn't otherwise spoil the game, though. Fun stuff. Not as good as Tales of the Abyss, but being one of the early games in the series, it's understandable. Everything else I had to say about the game, I said in my last post. So yay!

Bought and played A Healer Only Lives Twice yesterday. I managed to go right to the end of the dungeon on my fifth or so try. Spoilers: dps and crowd control are real important, and the attack + pierce buff and the attack twice buff are the best ways of getting it. The endboss only took two rounds to kill though, which was kinda sad. I don't think it's a game with any real longevity, but the concept is neat.

Gameplay is pretty fun so far, though the majority of the characters being scantily-clad females seemingly just to be scantily-clad females isn't really my thing in terms of the character designs.

Beat Danganronpa. It was quite an interesting story. I even managed to guess who the mastermind was before it was even time to actually investigate their identity. Then again with the exception of the very first murder and one a bit later on where someone rearranged the crime scene for their own purposes I was actually quite accurate with my guesses (though not always correct on the reasoning) so I suppose that's not too terribly surprising even though I technically shouldn't have had any real reason to guess that person. (Vague details but still spoilers for some of the endgame content: )

As soon as it was verified that the mastermind was one of the students I realized it absolutely had to be one of the students we thought had already died. And out of those the only one which stood out to me as potentially being the mastermind turned out to be who it actually was. Then after that I noticed the biolab's lights, well before the main character noted it himself, and noticed the last corpse's hands had a pretty interesting trait that seemed way out of place for that person but not for the mastermind at which point I'd pretty much pieced together what turned out to be what actually happened.
